We tip our mailman $30 and each sanitation worker $20. We also tip the water delivery guy. Never crossed my mind not to.

We don't tip.

I give gifts to teachers. That's it.

Re: Tipping Sanitation men/ Mailman, Cleaning lady

i only tip the sanitation guys b/c they are super nice and put my cans in all the way on my lawn, rather than leaving them in the street. $10 each. this is PA , not NY..lol

maillady can kiss my ass with a tip b/c she always ******* and moans if i have a package or small envelope for her to take.

I do however bring something to my mailbox place that handles all my stuff for my business packages. usually coffee and donuts or something edible for everyone there.

We do not tip the mailman or sanitation workers. I feel like they make a living wage with decent benefits as government/municipal workers. I would tip a cleaning person though. They are providing a personalized service in your home and I feel they are usually underpaid and have no other benefits. But that's just my opinion.

We tip our Sanitation men but I refuse to tip my mailman..he is a jerk.

My child is not in school yet, so I don't know if I will tip their teacher. Maybe I will check out seethruny before I make that decision.

Re: Tipping Sanitation men/ Mailman, Cleaning lady

I usually give my sanitation guys $20 each....and I have given my mailman $25, but no longer....he has been shoving things in my mailbox that barely fit and it should be put on my porch. One day, it took me literally 5 minutes to pry a box out of the mailbox, almost broke my damn nails! Keep in mind I live in NC, and the mailboxes are at the end of everyone's driveway, so they don't need to get out of the car, they just drive up and put it in the mail. However, if something is too large, they are supposed to put on the porch. He has been very lazy this year, LOL. I won't tip for that.

Did you ever check there to see how much your sanitation men make? Probably the same or very close to the teachers.

You don't tip people during this time of the year based on their salary. You tip people because you appreciate all the hard work that they do and you want to wish them a happy holiday, new year etc. Slurpee dad The fact u would tip your sanitation men more than the teachers that care for your childrens education, safety, well being during a majority of their day is laughable. Its also pretty sad to give a tip or present based on their seethruny salary status IMO.

I don't stalk people's salary to tip them. I was making a joke but clearly you didn't grasp that. Someone earlier in this thread made a comment about teachers, that is why I made a joke. Get over it.

Re: Tipping Sanitation men/ Mailman, Cleaning lady

I hate my mailman, he always gives us wrong mail, none at all, our neighbors have our mail in their boxes, etc. He does NOT get a tip. And there are like 10 different garbage men between the regular garbage and recycling guys, I cannot afford to tip them all.

Re: Tipping Sanitation men/ Mailman, Cleaning lady

As a wife of a sanitation worker I have no problems with people not tipping them

My Dh isn't even allowed to take any(NYC)

But I don't get some of the **** responses here, sorry

Yes they get a salary.

But some tip bc they like the workers they have

Some bc it's the holidays

Some bc they are only supposed to take a certain amount and when someone gutted a house they asked if they could take everything and they do

As morbid as it seems hey also pick up deceased animals from homes so they can be thankin them for that

They have even been known to shovel a elder persons house( I know hard to believe)

Maybe it's just for being out in the cold and rain etc

Everyone works hard at whatever they do and of you wanna tip that's great of not that's fine to

But I don't think it's so unusual to wanna tip someone even I they get a salary

I know some said they have crappy ones and that sucks but some have great ones and hey appreciate the tip I'm sure

No. I wouldn't call it a tip but when I was teaching I did get many thoughtful gifts from my students and their families at the holidays. Sometimes it was just a hand drawn picture by one of my kids, or some candy, an ornament, or even a gift card. Nothing extravagant, just a small token.

For my DD's teacher this year I got her a really nice cozy blanket, a bag of holiday blend coffee, and yummy chocolates. She takes care of and teaches my DD every day and I see such growth in her so I wanted to get her a little something to show my appreciation.

Nobody TIPS a teacher in the general sense of the word but many give small gifts to show their appreciation for a job well done with their children.

Wait until you have to give your kids, your babies and your whole world, over to be in someone else's care all day. You'll be singing a different tune about a teaches worth at that point and it will have NOTHING to do with what some stupid website says their salary is.

Just sayin.

Tipping Sanitation men/ Mailman, Cleaning lady

Tips have gotten out of control. It is no longer about giving a little something to show your appreciation. It has become expected. For example, the garbagemen put a card in our mailbox saying I know that you may not see us so here is my home address that you can send checks to.... Yeah nice try!
