Re: Daycare Teacher Called me to Ask to Borrow Money
You did what you had to do.
It is completely inappropriate. The fact that she has access to school records & is calling parents (and I do believe she is calling more than you) for money is nuts.
Something is amiss - whether she was terminated or has other issues going on (not rent problems), her employer should know she's soliciting clients.

Do you have the contact information for the other parents? Would you be willing to send out an email bcc'd simply asking if anyone else received a phone call from one of the employees at that school? Then see if anyone responds. If she's contacted other parents, then I would go as a group to the school.
eta, nevermind, saw you reported it.
I did contact 2 parents regarding this. The ones I trusted. I was the only one who got a call.

That is extremely unprofessional and awkward. I personally don't think I could not tell the school. I would be extremely uncomfortable with that.
I agree

I would tell the school without hesitation. She is obviously a con-artist. Maybe, she thinks you have money.

Daycare Teacher Called me to Ask to Borrow Money
I'm obviously in the minority but my first thought was that she was in trouble--like was being held against her will and asked to come up with money. Especially if she didn't sound normal. Does the school know why she was out today? Has anyone heard from her since?

That is completely unprofessional and inappropriate - and IMO you shold absolutely tell the director what happened.
this. And how did she get your personal phone info?

My mind went here also. Very strange, hopefully the school will get to the bottom of it.

Re: Daycare Teacher Called me to Ask to Borrow Money
You said her story had inconsistencies which means it's not true. So what does she really need the money for? She's obviously not acting rationally, and after what just happened with the nanny on the UWS there is no chance I'd let her near my kids again with any question about her mental or emotional state.
I wouldn't think twice about reporting her, and I'm glad you did. If she is so desperate for money she should have approached her employer for an advance or loan.....not you.

Parent contact list. All teachers have it. The fact that she took it home with her make me feel uneasy.

Re: Daycare Teacher Called me to Ask to Borrow Money
Very awkward and I am sure it must have been hard but I too would be concerned over my children's safety and would have to put them first. Who knows what she needed it for. I have a friendly relationship with my son's daycare teachers but I'd be dumbfounded if they asked me for money and especially that much. Wow. I do feel sorry for her because maybe she is down on her luck or even being pressured to get it for some other reason besides rent but still..you shouldn't be involved in that.

You definitely did the right thing. I would want her drug tested if she stays. Are they already drug tested? No idea

Re: Daycare Teacher Called me to Ask to Borrow Money
Edited: Second thoughts...I would report it. As others said, her judgement is definitely off and I would be concerned for the safety of my child.
Wow! What nerve!

Weird!!!
I wouldn't tell the school, but I would tell her that it's highly inappropriate to ask parents of the school she works for for a handout. While you feel for her, you do not have extra money to give anyone at this time and she should contact her family or even the school for help.
wow.
This is what I would probably do.
Wow! What nerve!
This. BUT....to be honest, I would not be able to leave my children in this person's care. If she is THAT desperate, maybe she is on drugs. Maybe she would retaliate against my child. I would not trust someone who clearly has NO jugdement or who clearly has judgement impaired.
Bad bad situation IMO.

Daycare Teacher Called me to Ask to Borrow Money
are you positive the person you spoke to on the phone was really the person from daycare? it sounds so much like the scam when people hack facebook accounts. I had my "cousin" telling me they needed money through IM on facebook, needless to say i'm not close with this cousin and knew it wouldn't be her contacting me. so i told her husband and sure enough the account was hacked. this just reminds me of the same type of thing.

Daycare Teacher Called me to Ask to Borrow Money
this would not sit well with me to and I qould question the safety of my child. If you don't know this person beyond a hello/goodbye, why are you calling me, acting weird, asking me for money? I would absolutely call the school's director and inform them about what happened. Odds are, you are not the only person she asked and I can bet you any amount of money that out of all the parents she asked, someone else will call to report this too

Re: Daycare Teacher Called me to Ask to Borrow Money
I agree with others...you def did the right thing. If it were me I would have a sit down with the director first thing in the morning...I would not feel comfortable leaving my kids with her...it sounds like there is so much more to the story
I don't know why, but for some reason it made me think that she's in trouble in regards to her safety...but I always think the worst

Re: Daycare Teacher Called me to Ask to Borrow Money
You have every right to feel violated..that is a very strange thing to experience...what would ever possess this lady to call YOU, a parent of a child she teaches to ask for that amount of $$???
I agree with some of the others...I wouldn't feel OK with my kids in her care. She may be in a desperate situation and had a lapse of judgment, but who knows...it may be a very bad situation where she's being forced by someone to ask others for $$...who knows the reasons behind it, but desperate people are not always thinking clearly. I wouldn't want my kids being watched by her. JMHO. sorry you went through this!
