I also would not feel comfortable leaving my child with her after this. Are you absolutely sure it was her? Is it possible someone got hold of a contact list? I would definitely have reported it too.

You absolutely did the right thing by reporting this to the director! I'm surprised so many people said don't tell. This woman is completely unprofessional and inappropriate. She is showing really poor judgement. I would not leave my kids in her care again, she sounds unfit to be responsible for children.
And I doubt it was just you who she called. Since you had no personal relationship with her, I bet she was just desperately calling all of her students' parents.

I would not give her the money and I would tell the school. The reason being is to abuse her contact list and ask for the money in my mind means she is in a desperate place. I would not want someone like that watching my child for fear of what they could do when desperate. Maybe it is an over reaction but since that nanny killed those kids over a pay dispute that is where my mind goes - sadly.
This exactly. How could you not tell the school what is going on? She was using the school contact list outside of school. What's to say she wouldn't show up at your house asking for money? I would have it documented and sadly wouldn't trust her around my kids. It seems like she has fallen on some hard times, but there must be someone else she can turn to for help.

This is one of the most bizarre things I've ever read on here.
OF COURSE you had to tell the school. That's a no-brainer to me. Glad you did.
There's got to be way more to the story than we/you know.

I would definitely tell the center. That is just really sketchy and I wouldn't feel comfortable with this person caring for my children. Even if it really IS for what she said it is, then she is in the least seriously lacking in judgement skills! I'm sorry you had to deal with this. Don't feel bad, you're protecting your children and other's.

Thank you for the update! I always wonder what happens in the scenarios posted.
The daycare should have terminated her immediately. The fact that she asked one family should be enough but to learn others were asked & some lent her money is awful.

The OP reported to the daycare after she was asked for money back in December and the teacher was not fired then. I think that is what Jax430 is referring to.

To clarify:
After I came forward a couple of other families did as well. One actually lent her money. After the 3rd time, they got fed up and reported it.
We were all asked for money the same day. I reported it. No one else did until the week before christmas.
From December until the termination date, she was reassigned to a new class (she was one of 4 teachers in a room filled with 9 kids). I believe that the organization was consulting their legal experts on this.

You may want to talk to them about protecting their client lists. I could see wanting your kid's teacher to have your phone numbers but there needs to be some kind of procedure.
