Not enough time IMO. This guy was a repeat offender when it came to drinking and driving. It was murder, not manslaughter. I say life imprisonment for taking a life, or two, in this case.

Re: WARNING: Touchy subject inside...

Not enough, he needs to be held accountable for his actions.

I really could care less if he is remorseful or not. He decided to get hammered and drive the wrong way on a PARKWAY and killed 2 people. Whatever his defense, he needs to be punished and 18 years is not enough.

I think it was a fair sentence. He had a clean record and made one he-double hockey sticks of a mistake. The family will never get their child back and his family is losing a son for at least 12 years (when he goes up for parole).

I am not sure this was the guys first offense.

I have to say the fact that this convicts family is "losing a son for at least 12 yrs" doesn't phase me at all! Chat Icon

I agree 100%.....that beautiful little girl was killed and her parents witnessed it. I remember crying so badly when I read this story. Of course, I felt bad for the limo driver as well but that poor girl. My brother works for Nassau County PD and told me the inside on this accident, it was HORRIFIC. The guy should rot in jail for what he did!!!!!!!!!!!!

It wasn't, but the other offenses were admissible in court.

I agree...it wasn't enough for killing two people. He should have gotten consecutive sentences maybe. It was so horrific considering the little girl was decapitated. Chat Icon

Re: WARNING: Touchy subject inside...

yeah, i did hear about this, but didn't know all the details

given that it was an act of carlessness, 18 years seems like too short of a time, so yeah, he should get more

but not life imprisonment - i think that for this, life would be too much - he was really really careless, so the punishment needs to be steep, but, as it was not intentional, i think life is too much.

The guilt he'll feel will shorten his life anyway, IMO

Re: WARNING: Touchy subject inside...

As a Criminal Justice major, I honestly feel that taking someone's life and destroying another can never be compensated for... with that being said I think it is more important to make the defendant realizes the actions that he has taken to cause this and to make him feel sorry (truly deep down inside)... I think 18 years of imprisonment is sufficient enough punishment to make the person realize and be sorry for what they've done...I mean think about it...18 years behind bars. Yes, he might be let out on parole earlier for good behavior etc, but still, this person will have more than enough time to think about what he has done.

I am glad he got min 18 yrs, but he should have gotten more. either way, you can't bring back the poor little girl or the man he killed Chat Icon I am just glad he got a LONG sentence!

I completely agree!

Don't even get me started on this issue! When will we WAKE UP and start sentencing these creeps for what they DESERVE?! I'm sorry but when my friend was killed the guy that did it served a THIRTY DAY SENTENCE!!!! With five years probation Chat Icon My friend died at only 20 years old and he gets a THIRTY DAY SENTENCE! Well, 60 days- he was out in thirty. Chat Icon

And to add insult to injury-- the probation system? HAH! A joke... I saw him (the criminal that killed my friend) driving after he was let out at least two or three times... WITH NO LICENSE. It was taken away. My girlfriend saw him at a bar drinking when he was supposed to not drink for the five years he was on probation. Each time I called his officer and each time nothing was done... NOTHING.

If we would sentence everyone like the above situation (the Meadowbrook- Limo Driver/little girl incident) then maybe we won't be hearing about innocent people getting killed EVERY OTHER DAY. Chat Icon

Two innocent people, 18 years. I think of it like this...... thats 9 years for killing one person and 9 for killing the other? I think people that harm/kill animals get more punishment than this

can I ask an honest to God question?

If this guy was on trial for murder, how come DUI's aren't called attempted murder? Does anyone know the legal reasoning for it?

I disagree. His family did nothing wrong and they are suffering as well. I think it was horrible what happened to ALL of the families involved....

I think he should have gotten more time but I CAN symphatize with his family

My point is that his family can go to prison and see him - the poor and innocent families of the victims need to go to a cemetery - there's a big difference there!

He was previously arrested for DWI but the charges were dropped

based on that I think it is a fair sentence. He made a mistake once, the second time he should not get away with.

Re: WARNING: Touchy subject inside...

My opinion is that driving drunk is NEVER a mistake. If you know you're going out drinking, don't take your car. That's what car service is for. If you can't afford it, then don't go out to the bar.

ETS: OH, and I think he got way too little
