This wouldn't apply until she is older but if I have a girl - no baby dolls. No Baby Pees-on-Me, no Baby-Burps-In-Your-Face-Alot, etc. Gross. No strollers and baby bottles.

Just curious why wouldn't you let your child have dolls and a stroller? My DD loves her dolls and walking them in the stroller.

Well first off - never say never, right? Chat Icon So I wouldn't say never, but I would prefer not to. If she were to ask for baby dolls at some point, I wouldn't deny her. I just never liked the idea that baby girls are immediately assigned this role of "mommy to be someday".

I just would rather she focus on other things first...like a career Chat Icon

There are lots of other pretend play toys and roles she can engage in...why can't she play doctor instead of pushing a stroller? KWIM? Chat Icon

i Agree!! my 8 yr old is not allowed to have baby dolls at ALL.she can have barbies.. but no pretend baby wetting crying, pooping dolls..

. sorry.. but raising a child is NOT a game. it's not all fun and whoops baby went pee pee.. It's the most serious and important task a person can take on, and it's not something that should be glorified as a childhood game.

Wow I can't imagine not letting your child ever have a doll. To each his own.
I had dolls and I hardly grew up taking parenting as a game. I think the issue of irresponsible parenting falls a lot deeper than playing with dolls. JMO.

DH and I would have that reaction to anything with a Yankees logo on it. Chat Icon

I also don't want anything that's a PITA to put on and take off. I've heard some brands are not really baby-friendly.

No sailor suits.

Absolutely NO SADDLE SHOES!!! The only person who would dare to get my son saddle shoes would be my mother and she knows I would throw them at her.

I'm not a winnie the pooh fan..I know crazy!!!! Also I'm not a fan of crocs, i know everyone has them, I just don't see the point of putting them on a child...

ITA. I'll take anything anyone is willing to give me. And I love characters. Chat Icon

Oddly, the item I want MOST off of my registry right now is the changing pad for the changing table. I really hope someone buys that for me.

im surprised to hear "no hand me downs"
i mean, certain things i want new but my sister has TONS of stuff for me that I will gladly accept

I should of really said, "no hand me downs from my SIL" If she treated me with an ounce of respect, then I would gladly accept them.

Nothing with any representation of Barney (or any other member of his misfit Dinosaur crew)!
Oh, and as much as dislike overly frou-frou girly stuff, I hate boy stuff "femmed" up, such as pink camouflage! Yuck!

this has been my main thing with all my kids Absolutely no Barney.. I also wrote everywhere no pink and that worked for me my dd got every color but pink thank goodness and I will do the same if this is a girl

I guess I am going to have to find the most atrocious pink and purple things and see how grateful you really are.

Nothing is off limits to me. I am grateful for anything we receive as a gift, and I am not really picky at all.

Re: What are some things you do NOT want to receive as a gift for your child (inspired by JennZ's "Please Be Honest" thread)

Just a reminder, this thread is just for fun. Chat Icon We are just chatting, on a message board, about our preferences ideally speaking. And this thread should go without saying, it's not that we are going to tell every person who may give us a gift every item they should not buy or that we dislike!

Now back to the sailor suits. I have been trying to dig up a pic of myself in that dreaded sailor dress from my Kindergarten so I can post it. Chat Icon

Re: What are some things you do NOT want to receive as a gift for your child (inspired by JennZ's "Please Be Honest" thread)

very cool thread!

I disappear for 2 days (I promise the final business trip!), and all this neat stuff goes on on this board Chat Icon

I'm SUPER opinionated and fussy about my personal style (if you didn't already know that Chat Icon ) DH is perfect for me, becuase his design asthetic overlaps mine almost perfectly. our home is super modern (think 'loft) and is black, grey, white, and bright red.... with lots of steel and glass. we have a 'less is more' attitude, and don't want a lot of stuff... only a few functional good quality items....

For Scone, we do not want:

anything 'commercial' (disney, sponge bob....) no need for these companies to try to make money off of scone from birth.
all blue clothing
trucks, boats, trains... all over his gifts (or anything else that infuses a strong gender stereotype....what the link between male genatalia and modes of transportation is I'll never know)
anything 'country' or traditional (linens, furniture, accessories)

I know a lot of the stuff we don't want is actually popular with most other parents... but we've always been a bit unique in our preferences.... doesn't mean I wouldn't whoop it up at a friends shower and get their little boy all of the truck linens they want... they're cute..... it's just not us...

Re: What are some things you do NOT want to receive as a gift for your child (inspired by JennZ's "Please Be Honest" thread)

oh, worse than any sailor suit.... my mom dressed me in lederhosen (those leather/suede shorts with suspenders that german men wear at oktoberfest)....

unfortunately, the same pair of super expensive shorts still exist at my mom's house, and are already threatening scone!
