We came home all by ourselves and no one came over that day.

We were discharged from the hospital in the am... before visiting hours so no one was with us.

When DH and I brought DD home, my parents and sister were there waiting for us..they had cleaned the apartment for us and made lunch..they only stayed a little bit until we were settled and then left us.

The day we came home with DD I told everyone I wanted it to be just us for the day. The next day I allowed only CLOSE family to come over. With this baby I think I will probably let my parents and in-laws come over the day I go home. I think I will probably need more help this time around.

Wow...I must be a b!tch...LOL - I've already told everyone no visitors for the first week. I prefer DH & I spend time with the baby alone.

The following week DH's Mom will be staying with us for a full week. I think I'll need the break...

With DS I don't remember specifically telling people not to come over, but I know we came home alone. I think it just worked out that they knew I was being released so they didn't bother coming to the hospital. I was out of there as fast as humanly possible (think I checked out by 10am) and then we just didn't call our parents for a few hours until we were ready for visitors. This time I'm not sure how it will work out. I'm sure my mom or MIL will have DS at their house while I'm in he hospital. And as much as I don't want company immediately, I do want DS home with us and the new baby. I guess we'll see how that all works out. I may ask DH to pick up DS the morning I'm being released and then to come pick me up.

While I would love to do that and not have any craziness when we come home, it will probably not be the case because our families will be in from NY.

i think people will understand, just make it clear that you want a little time home before you have visitors.

When we brought DD home it was in the evening-like 6:00. So we were alone and I was very thankful. I was totally beat and very emotional. Family came over the next day, which was perfect IMO!

I really just want to come home alone with DH and the baby. We, too, have a dog and I'd like to spend some time getting him used to the baby before other people come over. I feel like the first day home should be just for us to get used to our new family.

The first day will be just us, perhaps the day of release AND first full day home

People can come visit at the hospital and then again a few days later

DH and I just want it to be us and the baby.

We don't mind if our immediate family comes over that evening, but we want a few hours to get settled.

At first I didn't think I wanted anyone there when I had been about midway through my pregnancy. Then I lost my mother to a heart attack soon after. after an emergency c-section and 9 days in the NICU, I would have given ANYTHING in the world to have her there. I missed out on having my mother AND my father know my child. It hit VERY hard.

DH and i got home from the hospital last Thursday and had the house to our selves for a few hours before DH parents came. It was nice to be able to settle in and take care of the baby and finally take a shower and spend timr with our new little one.

I think letting them come later in the day is a nice compromise and I think you might like the extra pairs of hands around you helping out. I would just try to keep the people visiting to a minimum that day, as few as possible.
