Actually, most people move there specifically for the schools. Of the three districts mentioned, it is the best. In fact, its one of the best districts on LI.

I'm not disputing that it's a good SD, but a lot of well-to-do families opt to send their children to private schools for other reasons besides education.

In this order:
Rockville Centre
Garden City
Massapequa

Rockville Centre is more eclectic and I think the people are more down to earth. There isn't such a clique-iness in RVC and it's closer to everything, being more centrally located. I MIGHT be more inclined to send my kids to private school, but I doubt it. I LOVE RVC and would move there in a hot second, but depending on the area. I'm not interested in bordering Baldwin, sorry.

In Garden City you CAN have a pool, just by ther guidelines. Most people don't because they go to their "private pool" on Cherry Valley Ave. Being proper and all, some send their kids to private school, it's not because the schools aren't good, because they are......you need to be careful of the area too. The most beautiful homes are right off Washington, but 2 blocks away is Hempstead. Not pretty. Garden City is great, just not my taste of people, and I have been exposed like the plague....

I lived in Rockville Centre for a number of years and would pick RVC over Garden City. Both are nice and have extremely weathly areas, but I hate the attitudes of the people in GC (no offense to anyone here please!). In chosing RVC, I would stay well north, east of Peninsula Blvd/N Village Avenue, north of Lakeview and west of Long Beach Road (Maybe that's called the DeMott area??)

Across from the Links where a lot of tudor are? That's the Strathmore section.

The section between Peninsula and Hempstead Avenue is the Canterbury section.

Thank you!!! I used to live on Brower Ave off Lakeview and I am talking north and west of there.... Looking at a map now, its the area east of Peninsula Blvd., west of LB Rd., north of Lakeview and south of DeMott. Lived there for 6 years until DH and I bought a house on the north shore.

Re: Where would you chose to live

Most people use the public schools. I have done much research. They almost all use it.

Re: Where would you chose to live

So my next question is, is more space a good reason to choose Mass?

GC has better schools and a better commute to the city.
So many people use the community pool that it has become a place for kids and parents to hang out.

RVC is a very nice area too (with a better commute to the beach) but I would pick GC over it.

It all depends on what is important to you! But you asked for opinions, so here are mine:

I would choose
1) Garden City (which is where we will most likely move to if we move to Long Island in about 5 years)
2) RVC
3) Massapequa.

For me personally, I would choose GC because I think it has the best commute. DH and I both work LONG days in the city and a good commute is essential to us. I would rather take a smaller property size and have a better commute. I also don't care about the pool situation.

If you are undecided, I would just look at houses in all 3 areas and see if you find one you like. All 3 areas are great.

I like the south shore so Garden City is out for me. Between RVC and Massapequa, I personally would pick Massapequa.

If you can afford Garden City, go for it! The schools are excellent and it's a very nice upper class area. It's convenient to shopping/restaurants and easy to get to Manhattan on LIRR. The homes are very expensive, much more so than the other areas you listed.

ITA. I would choose GC for the same reasons and an ideal location in central nassau.

Like others have stated, it would depend on where in GC. If we're talking Garden City with the large homes/estates, then GC wins, hands down. Chat Icon And I believe most people in GC send their children to private schools, like Chaminade, etc..

RVC and Mass. are nice, but the properties tend to be too small for my liking.

We can look at GC estates/western/adelphi, but not many properties are that large. They are mostly 60X100, even with teh big houses on them. It feels very congested to me. In RVC and Massapequa (Old harbor green/bar harbour in MP) there are some bigger lots from what I have seen.

The main thing that concerns me with Mass is that it is not incorpporated and all kinds of McMansions are going up and congesting the area possibly (OHG) and the flooding/flood insurance concerns, esp after today's weather.

Thats why I like incorporated more so. I like the rules to some extent re building.

I completely agree with the McMansions in many areas of Mass, and Nassau in general, but I don't expect to see that in Old Harbor Green. That just seems to be the area with homes of so much character - that is what makes that section so beautiful and attractive. I think the residents want to keep it that way.

I will say you won't find as many "snobs" in Mass as you will in GC....I am not familiar enough with RVC to speak about, but coming from someone who grew up on the North Shore and now live on the South Shore, in general I notice a difference with the people...not as many with attitudes. JMO.

Take a look there. Some have gone up. They are attractive houses, just very very large.
