Yes! It's so scary how divided this country is and I blame Trump 100%. Never once does he talk about unifying the country. He ONLY cares about his supporters and that's what scares me. I don't think Biden is perfect at all, but I do think he will listen to both sides and he will talk to the whole country and not just his "fans."
I want this to be over already. Even trick or treating there were people with their Trump flags out, which isn't a big deal at all, but telling our kids you have to say ridiculous things like... Trump is the best to get a candy bar. Seriously?! I know she was joking, but come on.
We are going back in time dividing this country and moving to a civil war. It's so scary.
Wtf... that’s insane. Omg, this country is so effed.
annndd..this is how rumors start which is why we are the way we are now. People read headlines, never open up the story. No one watches or reads the news anymore. They go by what they hear from so and so. Even if this IS true and she said she was joking, she.was.joking.
Yes, I am sure she was joking, but us parents weren't within earshot so she just said it to the kids. My boys are 9 and 11 so we were walking with other kids their age and the parents together watching from behind. WE weren't right there. The boys came back and said that woman said we had to say we liked Trump or something to that matter to get the candy. Like I said... not like the parents were there so I am sure she was joking, but unnecessary to say it to kids.
So you really don’t know what she said or if she did say that. First poster gave you exactly what you wanted and that is why we are divided. Not from 1 man.
OMG! No, I wasn't there and I really didn't think it was a huge deal, just one of those roll my eyes moments. Yes, a bunch of the kids came back with the same story about Trump from her house so I do believe it. I don't think the woman was threatening them or they felt unsafe. It's LIF I'm venting to, which honestly hasn't seen much action in a looong time. I'm not calling the police on her. I just thought it was a bit ridiculous to bring politics out during Halloween is all I'm saying. I can remove my post if it offends you bc I understand what you're saying. Again, just a vent and eye roll moment on LIF.
Not much offends me, honestly. This is perfect though for this post why there is so much violence and why people are afraid. So much taken out of context and stories started.
You are SO off the mark here.
She's telling an anecdote about something her kids and other kids in the neighborhood told her about something someone said about Trump.
So she's not supposed to believe this group of kids?
To even try to connect this to the violence and tumult we have seen in this world recently is baseless, absurd, and next level batshiit.
Exactly and thank you. It's LIF. We vent to each other. That's why I always liked this group over Facebook. Less people and drama.. or at least I thought when it comes to Trump and Halloween. I didn't feel threatened for the kids. I just think it's ridiculous to bring politics up during trick or treating. I don't mind the flag or lawn signs. WE get it, but no reason to go beyond that.

This person was just told something that the poster didn't even really hear but was told 2nd hand from kids. I am not saying that the woman might not have said that BUT it is again hearsay and headlines that people only listen and read and run with it.
He said, she said is the biggest causes of fights with everything in life.

I understand, but this is why I just am venting on this site. Nothing on Facebook or big sites. Again, just a vent and I didn't think it was going to cause violence and stated several times I'm sure she was sort of joking. As everyone else had said... there is NO reason to bring politics up during Halloween. I don't care about the flags or lawn signs. Like the PP said... it's the cardboard cutouts and people talking about Trump to children.
Well if they normally have the cutouts or signs, then why should they take them in, especially when everyone assumed Halloween was going to be a bust? Would it be ok if she joked about Biden or would you have been ok with that?

Because it’s ridiculous to joke about politics to kids.. it makes no sense. It’s not even funny. Maybe if I was going up to one of my friends house who said that to me then I can see it as a joke. Ha ha, we have different views. But that story above doesn’t make it a funny joke, ha ha ha - nope. I don’t think it’s horrible but it doesn’t sounds like a joke. Can you see kids going to school and telling all their friends about the hysterical joke the lady said? LOL.
Tbh regardless whether it was a Biden or Trump supporters, it sounds ridiculous to bring politics into a kids holiday. So yes, I stand by my opinion of this world.

It looks like businesses are more worried over Trump winning and the destruction and looting that the democrats have done over the past few months.
So very sad as all we can do is go out and vote for who we choose and for many cities to have to board up like this it is disgusting what we have turned into.
Horrible that people can hate one man so much that they will destroy their own country in one minute but lecture about peace in another.
This is a joke, right? Please tell me you're joking. My friends, in business on Long Island are afraid that trump supporters will go nuts if he loses on election night.
His false claims of voter fraud and ballot problems are pasthetic and desperate. Please, enlighten me as to one thing he has said that isn't hateful. And as for those trashy F*kkin redneck ignorant idiots who blocked bridges for WHAT? Where's your law and order?

maybe you're actually an intelligent trump supporter. If you're deeper into the news then, congratulations because most Conservatives I know only hear his key phrases: "Socialism", "Law and Order", "Guns".

Who's nervous for tomorrow's outcome?
I am very worried. I am worried about the results but i am actually more worried about how each side will react when the other loses. Both sides are not angels and I think it is going to be a shit show. I'm glad the kids are off tomorrow and I am seriously considering keeping them home on Wednesday too.

Exactly and they have said this over and over on the news. Unless it is a huge landslide, you won't know the amount of absentee ballots that are for each candidate.

Yes true, but I think we will have a pretty good idea by Wednesday. Every year has had absentee ballots to count, although yes this year will be more. Those will probably only come into play though in the battleground states.
Yes, I am nervous, which is unlike me. Whoever wins, we are doomed. Not just because both candidates are so pitifully horrendous, but because this country is irretrievably broken and I don't see how it can be unified anytime soon - by any President. Fundamentally, people are miles apart in what they believe and what is important to them. This has always been somewhat true, but the difference is that this year we have on top of everything, the fact that people are losing their minds over the past 8 months of their lives being destroyed, combined with the extreme violence we have seen this year that will no doubt continue now that it has been allowed to happen for so long. It's a perfect storm. Something has got to give in a big way, before it gets better.

Who's nervous for tomorrow's outcome?
More disgusted than nervous. This is the first election I am not voting in. I voted for Clinton in 2016, but I can't get behind Biden. And I sure as shit am not getting behind Trump. Biden is is not strong enough to heal this country, and even if he were, it is going to take a lot longer than four years to repair this mess. I hate to say this, but I think we are royally screwed either way. God help us all.

He doesn't even care about his supporters. Not when he keeps leaving them stranded for hours at his rallies in the dark, in extreme weather conditions, and needing emergency medical assistance. Many of them senior citizens. It's disgusting and unconscionable. But they keep willingly signing up for the abuse knowing the possibility and it's within their rights to.
The truth is we're fcked no matter the outcome of the election. Nobody is going to be able to put a lid back on all of this. It's not going anywhere.

Can I gently suggest you reconsider? Even if you don’t vote for president, your congressional rep is up for election, and state assembly/senate reps. Every vote counts in these races!!

Agreed, but Biden will at least be moving us in the right direction. I think Kamala is a great VP choice as well. I just pray we, as a country, can heal and move forward.

Biden would have had a better chance if they didn’t choose someone soooo far left. It would have been an easy win had they picked someone not as controversial. I know plenty of people who were unsure but in essence they were choosing between Harris and Trump and they couldn’t vote for Harris.
Even I (a trump voter) would have considered Biden if he didn’t have someone so far left.
I just still don’t understand why we can’t get a middle of the road candidate. Why are both sides sooooo far over.
Here’s to hoping that in four years we get two respectable candidates running against each other and we get a president that we hope our children look to as a role model!

Biden is a moderate by any definition. He is NOT so far left. It's simply not true.
He's against stopping fracking, against MFA, and against several other "far left" positions.
I put "far left" in quotes because those positions aren't even far left. On the real spectrum, they are center left positions. The issue is that Repubs have moved so far to the right that everything is skewed.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but they are not entitled to their own facts.

I hate to say this, but I think we are royally screwed either way. God help us all.
A big problem in the US is that our perceived notion of "Left/Right" and "Extreme Left" is skewed by world standards. Most of our "Extreme Left" candidates are considered Moderate or slightly Right-Wing candidates by most of the world.

The poster meant Harris, not Biden. She is saying more would have voted for Biden if he, meaning the democratic party, picked someone else like himself.

Re: Who's nervous for tomorrow's outcome?
Is anyone worried for their kids? My DS dislikes Trump so much. This goes back to when he first ran, over 4 years ago. He didn’t get his views from me, because 4 years ago I didn’t dislike Trump, I just thought he wouldnt be fit for Presidency and he was a little nuts. I think it was from school and talking to his friends. I always correct him when he says outlandish views from social media or his JHS friends. Anyway, he really believes Biden is going to win 100%. I’ve been trying to prepare but he isn’t trying to hear it at all.
I swear my son is a very chill kid but he was really upset 4 years ago. I’m really nervous about how he is going to take it because today he was bee bopping around saying Trump is out. Is anyone else’s kids invested in this election?

Mine is older and has A LOT to say. I have never put my views on my kids and the younger one knows more about the candidates and what is going on then the older honestly. The older one should not vote, IMO, as it is basically an eenny meeny minny mow with them

He’s 12 now and I thought it was a phase that will pass after the last election. But it didn’t and I always make him fact check or research when he comes to me with news or a story.
I feel you on the older kids. I feel that way about my stepson.

DS is 17, so he'll be voting next year. He's very up on the candidates, their stances on various topics, and where he stands in relation to various candidates. He did several of those survey things where they figure out who you match best with. He's not 100% in step with me, but pretty close, so I'm happy that he has his own thoughts on important topics. He'll definitely be an educated voter.

You are right - I stand corrected.
However, same principle. She is not far left or even close.
