Kristin,
I do not wish to argue with you.
As I said I have friends and family who are conservatives.
I do not judge people based on their politics, or assume they are all one way.
I just take offense to someone calling someone a racist out of no where.
Nothing went over my head. He took a low blow and tried to take "pun" into a "joke" but the message was low, clear and below the belt.
Have a good night
Tommy is a lot of things (sorry TB) but he wasn't trying to call her a racist, it was her "the white man" statement that Rev. Wright always says that she said that was funny. Not a lot of people go around saying "The White Man" with exception to Rev. Wright and some others. I just confused myself
I get it, and I always raise a lot of eyebrows myself - I am white (if that matters or not, I don't know - just putting it out there) but I always despised how there had to be "African American History" classes in college - which, sounds nice, but it also has a deeper meaning to me - like, "This was probably left out in early education, so if you'd like to learn more, sign up for this class."
I mean, all I ever learned growing up as far as black history was the guy who invented peanut butter. I'm not saying everyone had that experience, but it was surely mine.
History classes are filled with white people, let's face it. Even women are lacking in the courses - maybe it's meant to be His Story?
Now, I don't hate white people, so let's not think that, either.
It just wasn't until I was older and educated MYSELF with things I lacked that I saw things for what they were - usually a big misleading lie.
I mean, how many people have learned of the Tuskegee syphilis experiment?
Look, we are all a lot of things - not just Tommy. I, for one, am just glad we are discussing things like this, instead of Lost, because don't even get me started on that scary smoke monster!
First off, thank you for posting in a cordial matter. We probally do have more in common then not
As to the education point, my problem is that kids aren't being taught about the Constitution and how our great country was formed. I bet a good majority of kids these days have no idea who Paul Revere or Daniel Boone are.

Yeah your probally right. 20 years at his pew and he had no idea that he hated jews and white people.
Well, people sit at Catholic churches and have no honest idea that there have been molestations. Certain boys being selected for altar positions, etc.
People see what they want (or don't want ) to see.
If anything, I think Obama is directly working with and for the banking system. He seems to have appointed a bunch of snakes who aren't his race.
Not saying molestation only occurs in Catholicism, either. It can happen in any religion, just using an example.
The more I think about it the more I think we should sleep together..... JK!
well yeah, especially if you got my back, sistafriend! now go in the kitchen & make me a sammich!

I'm very sorry if you thought that me calling you Reverend Wright meant that i was calling you a racist, it had absolutely nothing to do with that. However, I need to address this. You are all saying that Rev. Wright is a racist, there is no doubt in your minds about this, so how can you deny what I originally wrote about Obama having a shady past or associating with shady people? Basically you admit that Reverend Wright is a racist? yet you voted for a man that sat at his church and Baptized his children there. Thanks for making that clear.
To be clear you have no knowledge of who I voted for.
To answer your question--yes from what I have read, seen, heard I do believe Rev W is in fact a racist.
I have no knowledge that the President was aware of this.
I go to church, I do not know everything about my Priest.
Sometimes people do not show unsavory sides of themselves to certain people.
I do not know or claim to have all the answers.
I do know that Obama does not seem *to me* to have this shady past you speak of...he seems pretty legit to me.
Yeah your probally right. 20 years at his pew and he had no idea that he hated jews and white people.
Obama is White he is BIracial.
Do you think he would sit in his pew if he knew this?
I honestly don't..I mean his grandparents who raised him are white, as is his mother.....
Its really hard to believe that he didn't know, I mean, Rev. Wright's sermons were full of hating jews and whites. There are videos of his services, in his church that show him saying absolutely despicable things. I can't imagine that not once in 20 years, Obama wasn't present for one of these hate filled services. Its just not believable.
And I would like to add, I have left 2 churches that I belonged to because I disagreed with what was being said during services. Even if he didn't agree with what was being said, you don't sit there for 20 years and then raise your kids listening to the same hatred.

just thought I would put this out there..
Every President has had questionable dealings in some part of their lives.
If you don't think so, you are naive.
Deducing that Obama is shady because he has had associations with people that some might find questionable doesn't not define his character or anyone else's necessarily.
It was really a stretch to say that.
Yeah but if Obama wasn't bi-racial and was all white, what do you think the chances of him becoming President would be?
Im gonna go with he wouldn't even get a position as county exec.

Well, I do see where you are coming from. I know if you're in the military, chances are you have a very strong passion for the country you put your life on the line for. (I married one, myself, believe it or not)
And you are right - the history of country formation is lacking and easily forgotten. Sometimes I feel the Constitution should maybe be altered every once in awhile to change with the times, maybe a kind of update. Nothing too outlandish, but just reflecting present times.

Considering his intelligence, drive, determination, eloquence and a real desire to make changes, I think pretty damn good. People were sick of the last 8 years of doing nothing and wanted change and that's what he stood on. Yep, he had the balls.
If he ran against someone else who had balls..well that would have been a squeaker.

I disagree.
I think it is a pretty well known thing that white people have had the upper hand in regards to racial preference for the job of President.
But we can agree to disagree.

very well put Tommy2. Thank you. I really hope we can get this bill repealed/deemed unconstitutional and start over with real reform and not the stepping stone to a single payer system.

my main beef with this bill:
federally funded abortions :( tax dollars should not be used for something that millions of Americans are against
nothing to address tort reform (thank you lawyer lobbyists)
the insane amount of money this will cost.
making people purchase insurance... it's a slippery slope--what will they say that we have to do next?
however, i do hope this works. so many people need the help.
I thought abortions where only covered in the case of rape or to save the mothers life
and my tax dollars are used for war- I am against that....
i don't want to get into the whole pro-life / pr-choice thing on here, it gets too crazy, but it's still in the bill. Obama signed an executive order he would take it out exccept for the three situations you mentioned, but an executive order has absolutely no legal weight and can easily be overturned or just flat out ignored. it's not the law because it's not IN the bill.
Obama said he would sign an executive order regarding this. As of yet he has not signed it and I don't believe he will. He used that executive order to get Stupak to switch his vote.

Re: Why I am against the Healthcare Bill...
I wish people could have just answered the question instead of getting into political debate.
Guarantees in life - death and taxes. Taxes are going to happen. I simply have to prepare and live frugally. Thank G-d I married a fiscal Republican with an MBA who can manage money. We have no debt and we have money in the bank though I don't know how long that will last now.
What I am concerned about is the quality of care my family and loved ones will get when hospital funding is cut drastically. I pray that I don't fall prey to Alzheimer's the way my father did and won't need a nursing home. They aren't all poops and giggles now - I fear what the nursing ratio will be then.
What I can do is try my damndest to live a healthy life and try to avoid illnesses.
G-d help the baby boomers.
I cannot live in fear until 2014. I just can't. I do not support this. I did not vote for this. I don't care if popular opinion is left or liberal. I don't want a debate. I ain't changing my opinion.

But we have had president's in secular clubs, president's who raped slaves, president's who had multitude of mistresses, president's who had deals/profited from the war we have been waging, etc.
I completely dislike rev. wright, but i feel most organized religions have hate filled bias.
Oh and i am not challenging you for not liking Obama or the bill just this statement.
