Re: Wisdom teeth extraction - awake or put to sleep?
What does it mean when you say they are impacted?
I can feel where mine are coming in, so does this mean they are not impacted. I have been putting off getting them removed since I don't want to be asleep when they do it, or be awake.

basically they are trying to come out and they dont. they should normally appear with ease but mine lower one is impacted and has been trying to come out for about a year now (maybe longer ). i cant take the soreness in my gums anymore so i have to have it removed because its just not coming out the right way.

Re: Wisdom teeth extraction - awake or put to sleep?
Awake- not impacted. For me it was the best thing- I do NOT like drugs, I do NOT like being put out, and I have issues with not being in control. He numbed the heck out of me and after those initial needles I felt NOTHING. Just some pushing and tugging- pressure- that's it. I liked the fact that when it was done I walked out of there feeling 100% in my right mind- not woozy or sick or drugged up... It wasn't bad at all....
ETA- And I am the BIGGEST baby/wimp you will ever meet. I get woozy from a splinter. So for me to say it- you know it wasn't that bad!

Re: Wisdom teeth extraction - awake or put to sleep?
I have had 2 pulled (separate times) and they were not impacted, I was awake. The 1st one was easy, the 2nd one was so bad that it came our in pieces

Re: Wisdom teeth extraction - awake or put to sleep?
ASLEEP!!!! OMG I'm a total dental-phobe. I had SO many horrible experiences as a kid, I can't even go in for a filling without being knocked out. I shake and cry the whole time uncontrollably. People laugh but I don't care. I simply can't deal with dental work.
Had 3 pulled out at once, all three broke apart when they were coming out (or so I'm told) but I was asleep and the recovery was quick and relatively painless.

Re: Wisdom teeth extraction - awake or put to sleep?
Asleep for me!! Mine were all impacted.
I woke up as they were stiching me up bc they didn't give me enough novacaine or whatever they use, and it was very painful! I'm glad I was asleep for the extraction part.

Oh and if you're going to stay awake....bring your ipod to drown out the sounds...that's the only bad part.

Re: Wisdom teeth extraction - awake or put to sleep?
I was a nervous wreck when I had all 4 of mine out, so I saw no other choice but to be knocked out. Turns out 2 wisdom teeth were impacted, but I wasn't really in too much pain afterward and I wasn't really swollen. Just follow all the instructions they give you and take it easy. I think the worst part of the whole procedure was going back a week later to have my stitches removed. Good luck and you will be fine!!
