Working Moms with Toddlers...Why is it getting Harder?

I have been working Full Time since DD was 3 months old, she is now 19 months and for some reason recently I feel bad leaving her. She is in good hands and stays with family and I am working to provide a good life for her. I don't know what has come over me. Chat Icon

Has anyone gone through this?

Yes! There are always ebbs and flows with your emotions. They are doing so many more fun things now. They start talking and really interacting with you.

There is always going to be something. I have an almost 4 year old and almost 1 year old and some days I'm running out of the house and other days I'm seriously dragging ass because all I want to do is stay home and cuddle w/ my love muffins. But I think you'll find the same sentiments w/ moms who get to stay home as well. We all go through these cycles.

You have to remind yourself why you are working. Keep your eye on the prize and you'll get through it. Chat Icon

Yes! I know how hard it is. I guess its harder when they are a bit older because they understand more and it hurts more. Just think of the positives and how you are working to make her life better and to be able to give her things. Hang in there!

Re: Working Moms with Toddlers...Why is it getting Harder?

I am going back to work tomorrow after being off for 3 months. My newborn is 11 weeks old and as much as I dont want to leave him my heart is breaking leaving my 2 year old cause she got use to me being home and when I tell her mommy is going back to work soon she says no momma dont go and sulks. I know when im driving to work tomorrow im going to be a crying mess in the car. I hate having to be a working mom but it is necessary to make a wonderful life for my two kids.

For me it's harder as they get older b/c they DO so much more and they are like real little people -
Interactive with personalities -

with a baby, youi know they need you but it's not the same as them talking to you or asking you to play with them or running over to give you a kiss .......

For me it gets harder as they get older because they are so much fun. When we pick up DS and ask him how his day is he tells me everything he did, and can't help feeling like I missed out on his whole day. By the time we get home its getting ready for the next day and bed. It's really hard for me thinking that I missed out on his whole day.

Exactly!! Even though shes not talking but saying words...My mom will say she did this today did that today, went to the park, she said a new word, new face expression...and it kills me that I missed most of her firsts.

Thanks everyone!! I guess its normal to feel like this.

My DS is 19 months as well and I went back to being a FTWM when he was 10 weeks.

He stays home with DH which makes it a little easier, but it still kills me when I walk out the door and DS is saying "Ma Ma" and blowing me kisses Chat Icon

DH makes it a point to call me during the day on speaker phone so DS can hear my voice and he sends me pic's when they are out at the park, etc.. It does get harder though because he is this little person now and so much fun to be around.

Re: Working Moms with Toddlers...Why is it getting Harder?

Oh its def harder at this age. DS is 2 yo and he's just so influential right now and I feel bad that I'm not the one influencing him all day. But he has a great nanny and we have so much fun when we're together. I love every moment I have with him, which probably would not be the case if I was home all day.

Funny story- last Saturday I was putting DS to bed and I said we have one more day with mommy and daddy tomorrow and he goes 'cause its the WEEKEND!' We celebrate the weekend every week!

Ugh - that is heartbreaking!! Chat Icon I will be home with a newborn this summer and decided to send DS to daycare 4 days a week. The decision killed me!! But I rationalized that DS got his own time in the beginning and this will be the one and only time the baby does not have to share me. I also figured it would be very hard for him to get back into that routine after 4 months of being home with me. Chat Icon

Some days are harder than others, but in the end I know it is the best choice for DS and our family. That always makes me feel a bit better Chat Icon

Yes its not really gotten easier. DS is 31 months and ive been working since he was 2 months old. It still breaks my heart when I leave him in the mornings, especially now that hes older and says "mommy please stay with me today".Chat Icon
