Would either of these scenarios bother or aggravate you?
1. Car in the right lane of the Northern State is going 50MPH.
2. Car in the left lane of the Northern State is going 60MPH.
Not during rush hour, and there is no traffic.
BE HONEST please.
ETA: To clarify, I meant the portion of the NSP after the Wantagh Parkway where there are only two lanes. Sorry for any confusion!

Re: Would either of these scenarios bother or aggravate you?
Yes and yes....
especially the left lane one...
ETA: Now that I thought about it, I rarely drive in the right lane unless I am going to exit soon, so I would probably not even notice that person. But 60 in the left lane is wayyy too slow for that road. That can cause more accidents than someone going faster because people will be going around and cutting them off.

Re: Would either of these scenarios bother or aggravate you?
1. Probably not. I don't drive often on the NSP, but when I drive to work (which is very rare) I am the person in the far right lane going at or slighly below the limit- till I come across an even slower person, then I go around.
2. And since the limit is 55 on the NSP (I think?) someone in the left doing 60 would not bother me- doing 75-80, I would be aggravated.
ETA- if's it not during rush and there's no traffic, why would it matter anyway?

Nah, I'd just go around them. My feeling is when people are going slower than I'd like, that we should all feel safe when driving and if that makes them feel safe, so be it.

The person driving below the speed limit would annoy me....
If you arent comfortable going the posted speed limit then you need to stay off of the parkways....

What part of the NSP is it? The part with three lanes or two?

Re: Would either of these scenarios bother or aggravate you?
The left lane thing would bother me but not the right lane. As long as people aren't driving too slowly (under 70) in the left lane (or driving crazy obviously), i don't care how fast they go as long as it's at least the speed limit.

1. No - I am rarely in the right lane... However, sometimes that's just as dangerous - especially when people are traveling say 60 mph and they come up behind the slow person then all of a sudden BAM - you have three cars trying to move into the middle lane. I cringe. I see this happen a LOT.
2. HELL YES. Left lane is for passing and you're not passing ANYBODY going 60. Especially with no traffic.

I agree, but I feel like this on all parkways/highways.

Re: Would either of these scenarios bother or aggravate you?
1- No because i feel that the right lane is suppose to be for people who dont want to speed
2. yes if i wanted to go faster and they didnt move out of my way. IMO left lane is to pass if i want to go fast and speed please just move out of my way!

Either one would annoy me if I was stuck behind them! However, the right lane is for going slow, so it would only bother me if I couldn't get around them for some reason.
As far as the second scenario goes, I hate when people go slow in the left lane. It is for passing! I know that 60 is above the speed limit, but most people on the NSP are driving around 65 MPH.
(I commute on the NSP/Grand Central every day, and I'm always stuck behind these people!)

Re: Would either of these scenarios bother or aggravate you?
There are 3 lanes..why do people choose the FAST lane to go 60? I understand 60MPH is over the speed limit, but it's the passing lane. Like a PP mentioned..you aint passing no one going 60! MOVE!
The 50 in the right lane..NAH wouldn't bother me at all. I can't be annoyed with someone who chooses to drive slow in the right lane. I expect that.

Re: Would either of these scenarios bother or aggravate you?
Nope - neither one. New York State speed limit on NSP, LIE, Sunrise, Montauk, Sagtigos, William Floyd etc is 55, not 60, not 65, but 55.
Person in right lane is obeying the law, person in left lane is breaking the law.
Not to hijack your thread - but when did it become acceptable to break the law every single time you get in the car?? (and yes, I'm guilty of it when driving alone)

Re: Would either of these scenarios bother or aggravate you?
Of the two options, the 50 would bother me more. That is way too slow for that road when traffic is moving. It is a danger to all other drivers. The 60 I can deal with. I normally drive 67 on that road. I will pass on the right, I drive too often to stay behind a slow driver.

There is a segment of the population that just does not care. I find it really hard to justify speeding. If people think it's ok to be 5 miles over, is 10 ok? What about 15? And for the record, I don't speed and got 1 speeding ticket 20 years ago. I learned my lesson.

Why? Fifty is almost the limit and if the slower driver is in the right lane, where he/she is supposed to be, how is there a problem? The danger comes when entitled idiots with no regard for the way things are supposed to be done can't be a little patient and tailgate on people in the right lane, often people who are actually doing the speed limit.

Re: Would either of these scenarios bother or aggravate you?
When i was younger I'd be annoyed...but now that i am 36 and i have parents who are 70 & 75 and have to drive on the roads with all these maniacs...i give slower people a break because chances are they are just law conscious citizens like my parents.

Re: Would either of these scenarios bother or aggravate you?
55 is the speed LIMIT. That just means you can't legally go faster than 55. Highways also have a minimum speed (usually 40, at least on the LIE). As long as you are between those speeds, you're legal.
If you're in the right lane, going below the limit, but above the minimum, I'm OK with it. If you're in the left lane and passing someone, I'm OK with that too. 60MPH person could be passing the 50MPH driver....
If you're not passing, you shouldn't be in the left lane, even if you're doing 80MPH.....
ETA: BTW, I admit that I take the speed limit as a loose approximation of what I should be driving...

Neither one would bother me......
Just to add.....a speed limit is a LIMIT.....not a requirement to drive that speed.....

Re: Would either of these scenarios bother or aggravate you?
The speed limit is an upper limit, not a minimum. There could be any number of reasons the person in the right lane is going 5mph under the speed limit (which really isn't much).
Neither of these scenarios would bother me. If I had to go faster, I would go around them.
I have a bigger problem with the people who are driving 75-80 mph in the left lane, tailgaiting, and/or weaving in and out of traffic.
