I have a bigger problem with the people who are driving 75-80 mph in the left lane, tailgaiting, and/or weaving in and out of traffic.
Oops, was that you? Sorry!

The person driving below the speed limit would annoy me....
If you arent comfortable going the posted speed limit then you need to stay off of the parkways....

I drive too often to stay behind a slow driver.
Can I ask what you mean by this?

Neither would bother me.
Like another poster said I have a problem with people tailgating on someones bumper going in & out of lanes because they are doing 75-80 mph & think everyone else should be doing the same.
These people cause more accidents than someone going below the speed limit.

yes. the left lane should be open...
if they want to drive at 50 or 60 consistently, stay in the right...

I don't care if people drive slow in the right lane.
It makes me crazy when people do 60 in the left lane.....just move over and get out of My Lane!

Re: Would either of these scenarios bother or aggravate you?
No. I can't stand the right lane so I stay out of it, but I usually don't drive that much above the speed limit either. I'm usually the one going 60 - and passing people.
I also don't remember the last time I was that far out where it was only 2 lanes..

Re: Would either of these scenarios bother or aggravate you?
Nope. As far as I'm concerned 5 miles above the speed limit & below are fine.
edited i know a dad that sped down the LIE, weaving in & out of traffic because his 2 year old was in the hospital on a respirator & his wife was in another hospital. I also know some people are more cautious drivers. You never know why someone is driving the way they are...not everyone is doing it because they're azzholes.

Re: Would either of these scenarios bother or aggravate you?
Yes... since the left lane is technically for passing, I'd be annoyed because it would prevent me from doing just that.

I'm not OK with excuses like that, though. He's risking everyone's life around him. If he needs to get to a hospital that quickly, he should have asked an ambulance or police officer to take him with the sirens going. If he gets into an accident, he's going to seriously injure someone (or worse), and not get to where he was going on time (or at all....)

There are days when I am in my car for 3+ hours. If I was stuck behind someone on a parkway for 1 hour of the day, I'd be certifiable. I'll pass them on the right.

You do not get someplace faster by going 5-10 miles above the speed limit, BUT you do put the cars around you in more danger.... but neither would bother me

Agree with GoldenRod 100%. I had several serious medical emergencies with my father when he had his heart surgery. I had to remind myself to slow down and drive carefully -- b/c getting to the hospital 5 minutes earlier would never, ever be worth someone else's life. On top of that, let's face it. Most people out there driving like idiots are not heading off to some huge emergency. There are far too many maniacs on the road.
The post I deleted earlier was about a friend who's DD was seriously injured a few weeks ago in a car accident. She is only 18 months, and she will never walk normally again. A woman hit my friend's car TWICE. She wasn't drunk. She wasn't texting. It wasn't raining or snowing. There wasn't a ton of traffic. She was doing 70-75, tailgaiting, and tried to pass. She was going to pick up a freaking pizza, nearly killed a minivan full of people and forever changed the life of one innocent little girl. I don't care where she was going or why she was driving so fast -- it doesn't matter. It wouldn't have mattered if she had a good excuse.
Sorry, but the issue of dangerous driving is really a sensitive one for me now...

The speed limit is an upper limit, not a minimum. There could be any number of reasons the person in the right lane is going 5mph under the speed limit (which really isn't much).
Neither of these scenarios would bother me. If I had to go faster, I would go around them.

Your putting everyone at risk to what get some where 5 to 10 minutes earlier. Is it really worth it?? As for a medical emergency I am sorry but this is why they have ambulances and 911.

I agree that excessive speed should not be excused. I don't think 5 mph over the speed limit is excessive.
I wasn't excusing speeding. The OP asked if it would bother or aggravate me. My point of telling about the dad was that I never get angry or aggravated over drivers that are going faster than me because you never know - but that could be because I was the 2 year old in the scenario & back then they needed him to sign paperwork treat me.

More so the 60 in the left lane. You should be going AT LEAST 65 in that lane.

Re: Would either of these scenarios bother or aggravate you?
No and "maybe"
1. Car in the right lane of the Northern State is going 50MPH.
I believe the speed limit is 40-55mph.
I can't be mad if someone is driving within the posted speed limit.
2. Car in the left lane of the Northern State is going 60MPH.
As long as the person is passing someone, I see no reason to be upset when someone is driving at 60mph which is higher than the posted speed limit. If the person just decided to stay and drive on the left lane, then yes, I do have a problem. REGARDLESS of the speed they are going. The left lane is a passing lane. Not a cruising lane! Whether is 50-55-60-80!

I understand everyone stating that the speed limit is 55.. but i think that 60 is the more realistic speed limit. Yes, its not the legal limit, but its the realistic one. No one and i mean no one drives 55 - and if they are, it's probably someone who is in the right lane and noticeably going slower than everyone else. Those people have just as much potential to cause an accident as the ones doing 85 in the left lane. I find myself going the speed of the traffic usually - if that's 65, then its 65. Sometimes its more than that on the LIE, it all depends on the traffic.
I despise people who feel the need to drive that much faster than everyone else and tailgate and weave - those are the people that will cause accidents no matter the speed.
Sometimes driving on the SSP, i shake my head at the arrogance and recklessness i see. I think we're all lucky we survive these crazy LI roads!

I happen to drive at 55. I don't feel I drive like a "granny" because I drive at the posted speed limit.
And realistically, if ANYONE hits me while I am driving at the posted speed limit and it's "unrealistic" to them... well, assuming I am not dead, they will see me in Court BIG TIME!!!!!

Same here. I do the limit- some highways where I live are 65 mph. I spend most of my time in the right lane.
And I don't really see how a slower driver in the slow lane has the same potential to cause an accident as someone doing 85 in the left. Unless, of course, someone slams into them, so would it be their fault for going too slow?
