yes...i did i asked my boss's boss to lay me off because i was planning on going to law school...i didn't trust my boss and knew some one who was also leaving could help me better
also you qualify for unemployment and it is best to take your severence in alump sum because then you qualify right away
if you are fired you have to go in front of a board to get unemployment and if you quit you can not get it
better to leave the jobs for the peole who want them

i did it last year! got unemployment and an awesome severance package. had off for 6 months and then ended up coming back to work here! I didn't hate my job, but we didn't have a house or anything so we didn't need the extra income or anything and they were offering me an out!

I guess I'm in the minority here, but No, I wouldn't.
You just never know when you'll find another job, and how much severence and how long it'll last.
I don't take risks like that.
However, if I was unhappy and knew there was a down-sizing coming in, I would start looking for another job ASAP.

I wished that that would of happened to me beofore I left my job to have my son. They were doing layoffs but I wasnt one of them. I would have gotten a nice severance package and unemployment. IT would have been great- I hated my old job.

I would start looking for another job..that would be my first move..if I was already out there looking I would feel comfortable about asking to be laid off.

I don't think I would. It's nice to dream about having my days free, but my bills would get the better of me and I'd be stressed out.
Especially since I would have to get a job eventually, and I might be compelled to take a position that I didn't really like just for the paycheck.
