Re: Would you tell a really good friend that her house smelled bad?

At one point, I got a little chocolate on her gorgeous couch and she said "don't worry about it, the dog pees on the couch all the time".
WHAT???? i wouldnt bother telling her - if she allows something SO unhygienic to occur in her home, im sure an odor wont be of concern.
if it was me, i wouldnt be spending time in her home. that is disgusting.

missed the part about not feeling like letting the dog out... I am reading too fast.
I see you decided to tell her - good luck!!!
eta: I was wondering why everyone was getting so worked up - I could feel the disgust through my screen...
oh thank goodness - i was like "all this time i thought she was a normal person"

It FLOORS me because she is all about keeping up appearances and has a beauitfully decorated home.. yet that doesn't seem crazy to her.
I voted to tell her, but after reading this part, it sounds like she wouldn't care.

I have a dog and I know accidents happen, but I could never ALLOW her to go anywhere in the house. Honestly, if that were my friend I'd tell her that I wouldn't be visting her anymore until things change. That's just disgusting and I wouldn't want to sit around smelling urine the whole time I was there.
I agree accidents do happen. Trust me I have a stubborn puppy But believe me I do not knowingly let her do it. And if she does I'm there scrubbing the floor!
I would tell your friend.

Re: Would you tell a really good friend that her house smelled bad?
Friend or not I honestly could not sit on a couch a pet pees on. This is absolutely disgusting. They make a wee wee pad and it's called "training".
I can be lazy sometimes but letting your dog pee on the floor just because you don't feel like taking a dog out is beyond laziness in my book.
So I would have no issue bringing up the weewee pad in the discussion as a "hint".
There is accident and accident. A dog who makes an habit to pee on a couch is not an accident.
I have 2 dogs and I am grossed out by this whole thing.

Definitely tell her.
I've had issues with cat accidents, and we're worked EXTREMELY hard to make sure no one knows. WE can't smell it, but I know that could be because we live here.
I definitely think you should say something...

Re: Would you tell a really good friend that her house smelled bad?
Well, if it is a good friend and someone who you would think wants to be able to correct the problem, then tell her. I have one friend who is just totally unclean and I would not bother telling her because she'll just be embarrased for the moment and that is it. I won't even tell you what I once saw on her dirty laundry pile--and that was out in the open during a party! I think my house smells not like dog pee but like dog in general and that is with having a cleaning lady who scrubs everything and having a dog whose accidents are very rare. I can only imagine how bad a house would be if a person let the dog pee inside often. I sometimes just ask people if they can smell dog. They say no but I think they're trying to be too nice!
