WWYD- family member flying in from CA
Says she's quarantining in CA for 2 weeks, getting a covid test right before leaving. I don't feel comfortable getting together unless maybe we go to eat somewhere outside, but dh is saying i'm acting crazy...What would you do?

I would not socialize with anyone from any of the states listed on the travel advisory, unless they had quarantined HERE for two weeks.

I thought they were supposed to quarantine for 2 weeks upon arrival?
Needless to say, no, I wouldn’t be socializing with them

Re: WWYD- family member flying in from CA
Why is she quarantining for 2 weeks before she leaves when she could get something on the plane?? That doesn’t make sense. Also, what is the purpose of her visit? Just because or for a special occasion?
Personally I wouldn’t, but if it was a close family member I would consider it after she quarantines here and it’s outside.

Re: WWYD- family member flying in from CA
A big no. Once home, quarantine for 2 weeks. Zero symptoms? Then good.
The flight alone!
We had an employee leave to go to Midwest for a death in the family. We all agreed she should wait 2 weeks before returning. She’s also going to get a test to be 100% sure (for herself and her other job)
As long as we are all smart about this, we can keep the numbers low.

No way. And she needs to quarantine here for two weeks, so she shouldn't be going to any restaurant or anywhere for that time with or without you.

And it doesn't matter if she is self quarantine in CA right now. Once she gets on the plane she is potentially exposing herself and may not show symptoms immediately, hence the reason people are supposed to quarantine when they arrive here

Honestly, I wish people would report those who don’t follow the quarantine orders so they actually would be fined and then hopefully more people would realize this is serious.

Re: WWYD- family member flying in from CA
I honestly would have no problem with it. If she wears her mask and washes her hands, she is following all the reported safety measures to avoid COVID. People work in areas of the 5 boroughs with high numbers and don’t quarantine when return home. To me, it’s the same thing.
I just flew to MCO last week. My flights were empty. Everyone wore their mask and the planes and airports were clean.
She would have to quarantine here for 2 weeks, but I don’t trust the contact trace system.

Yup, this. Many people live in the same household as someone with Covid and don't catch it. I think practicing good hygiene, you can go to eat outside. Of course if you are upset over the non quarantine issue, nothing will change your mind.

I personally. Maybe if she quarantined here for 2 weeks. Then I would only see her outside distanced. My brother lives in CA and would come in when my new baby comes but unfortunately he is not now. He is an air traffic controller though so they probably don’t want him traveling.

I agree. In some states in lieu of a 14 day quarantine you just need to have a negative tests worth in 72 hours of your arrival (I would think it would make more sense to do once you arrived though) But she will still have to fill out the quarantine paperwork at the airport when she arrives.

Re: WWYD- family member flying in from CA
I’m currently under NYS quarantine. They suggested I get a test. When I asked about quarantining ending if I tested negative, I was told no- that’s not how it works. So if a negative test means nothing, why even bother getting tested?
I’m more concerned with my husband taking 3-4 subways and the LIRR everyday, than my 2.5 plane ride and isolated visit with my brother in another state that has documented evidence of false positive data

I'd see her after she quarantines in NY for 2 weeks, and only if she really quarantines, not leaving the house or hotel she is staying in for 2 weeks.

she's not quarantining here for 2 weeks. flying in, staying for a week and flying home. I asked her if she can even fly home and she said they don't care but idk how she knows that lol. She's staying in a family member's home, no hotel. We told her we'd get together outdoors somewhere with masks

You can def meet outside, keep your distance, and you should be okay. I previously said to have them quarantine, but I guess that’s not realistic. Have fun and be careful!
