WWYD, help please!!! UPDATED with decision
2 different job offers and I am literally getting sick to my stomach over what to do....
A. Well known institution. pay increase over current position. In NYC. Good vacay and extensive benefits (i.e. tuition). Better job title.
B. Smaller company. offering 25% more than job A resulting in a 50% pay raise from what I'm getting now. 2 weeks vacay until 5 years. Travel 50-70% of the time and based on LI
what would you take?
UPDATE: Well after much hemming and hawing, and much to my surprise, I turned down Job B and decided to go for A. Job A, while not as much money initially, will definitely help to further my career in the long run and its not a position that I will tire of so easily.
Thanks so much for all your candid feedback; it really helped me feel confident in the decision I made.
There go my dreams of riches but instead a reality of a job I'll actually like!

Re: WWYD, help please!!!
The travel 50%-75% of the time is throwing me off... is this time you'd have to spend away from your family? Or just driving around LI?
Which job offers a better chance for growth?
To me, vacation is very important, as is overall happiness in the workplace. More important than salary. Did you get a "vibe" at either workplace that it seemed like a good place to spend 8 hours of your day?

Re: WWYD, help please!!!
I wouldn't travel 50-70% of the time if I planned on having or have children.
ETA: Is this travel during the work day, or will you be away from home that often? I assumed away from home.

Oh, and forgot to say: CONGRATS on getting 2 offers!!! It's a tough job market out there, and so many people can't even find ONE. Go you!

Re: WWYD, help please!!!
the travel would be within the same time zone but not LI. Midatlantic and new england. I can set up the travel as I want (stack a few clients in one week solid).
The non-travel job is a great resume builder and there is potential to move within the institution not necessary upwards within the smaller group.
Both places had a great vibe which is why I am so utterly undecided. If it was less of a difference between salaries then I know which I would choose but now its kinda a huge leap between the two.
ayyyyye, more advice?

Re: WWYD, help please!!!
I would take A.
Better benefits don't get eaten up with taxes. Now that I have children, I would not take a job with 50% + travel.

We have no children and would like them but you know, "later".
The travel would definitely be overnight. It depends on my choice if I wanted to do 2 days here 3 days travel and next week another day or 2. Or i could just be all like catch you later! and leave for a week straight.

thank you! I know this is a very very trivial and great problem to have. I've just always really struggled with work stuff (i went to art school) and I feel like this is a major cross roads with two very different paths.

I would take A. Between the travel and little time off, the second job would really eat into your quality of life and I've come to realize that money is not worth it. I would opt for A definitely

I would def take B. I love to travel and esp in New England. Sounds like a great opportunity for right now in your life. I also wouldn't take A because personally I do not like the city at all.
Good Luck either way

I would want to know how secure the 'B' company is. How long have they been in business. Are they profitable? How long have they been profitable for? Same questions for company 'A'.
Honestly I would pick the company that is more profitable, which wouldn't necessarially be the larger company.
I love to travel so I would probably lean towards company 'B' if the company was solid. Title is overrated IMO. It's all about the salary.

I would take job A... either way, you're getting quite a pay raise.
Congrats on the great offers! It's a good dilema to be in...seems like you can't go wrong. Good luck!

I agree with you. It seems like you would prefer A but with more money. You could tell them about the other offer and how you would really like to work with them but it's a big pay discrepancy.
