Thank you for all the helpful tips! I'm now psychologically prepared not to expect too much social distancing.

Don't expect any social distancing, especially at the airport. It's a free for all out there. Covid is over as far as most people are concerned. If you aren't prepared for that it's best to stay home.

Honestly I don’t know how it could be. Most places you go out to you can barely be 6 feet apart.

i've flown about 8 times during the past year all on Jetblue.

More recent flights have been very crowded and or fully booked. One flight I took the crew asked people to stay seated until the row in front of them retrieved their bags from the overhead and to prevent crowding. That was the only time that announcement was made on any flight I was on. It was so great; I have to wonder why Jetblue isn't instituting this as policy on all fights.

Otherwise yes I'd stay in the back and wait in order to not be surrounded by people standing

I have been double masking, one of them an N95. I wipe the seat down with a clorox wipe. I wear wrap around sunglasses and a hooded jacket. I end up looking like darth vader but so what.

I assume your flights are a necessity because that sounds like a lot of work to fly for pleasure.
Did you have Covid already?

What part of that is a lot of work? Wiping down the seats with Clorox? That's the problem with Society. I am a frequent traveler and have always done that. Pre pandemic. Why wouldn't you want to wipe down everything around you on a germ infested airplane? So many people end up sick while on vacation, because they just don't have Smart hygiene practices.

ITA! I've ALWAYS wiped down our seats, tray tables etc upon getting on a plane. They unload and reload so quickly that there is no way the plane is cleaned well in between. A Clorox wipe is so quick and easy. Like you said, just a matter of smart hygiene practices. Chat Icon

I’m by no means a germaphobe but I have always wiped down the tray and seatbelt buckles haha it’s disgusting the amount of filth that has been on the wipes afterwards. If My kids are sitting in that seat for 3+ hours that means they are eating and their hands are going near their mouth.
Been doing this since they were born

I don't wipe down anything. never have. My kids don't sanitize their hands very frequently. We are very rarely sick. Getting covid was the first illness that we've had in as long as I can remember. I actually don't think wiping everything down really makes a difference to be honest. Especially not with Covid since we know it doesn't live on surfaces very long. I think you either have a good immune system or you don't. I can't imagine being a germaphobe.

ETA I also hold the pole on the subway and would never even think of wiping down a seat on the LIRR and in all my life I have never seen anyone do that, and those trains are filthy. Hopefully you germaphobes never get a job that requires traveling on public transportation!

I'm not a germaphobe in the least bit but I recognize that certain public places can be extra grimy. Planes specifically yuck me out since it's a tight, enclosed space where you're breathing recycled air and everyone touches literally everything.

I most definitely sanitize or wash my hands after taking public transportation because it's pretty gross not to. Having good hygiene habits doesn't make a person a germaphobe. Chat Icon

So what are the people who don’t have good hygiene habits and don’t bother with any of that and never or barely get sick?

Exactly. My kids touch everything and since I pump them full of snacks on the plane, lol, I always wiped down the trays.

Wiping down seats on a plane makes you a germaphone in my book. I didn't say I didn't wash my hands after going on public transportation either.

The air in planes is actually filtered with really good HEPA filters. Air travel is actually extremely safe (germ wise).

What would you do if you ever had a job that required you to take a train to work?!?!? If you think planes are grimy you might pass out from the LIRR or the subway!

LIRR and subways definitely are gross, all public transportation is. I always sanitize and/or wash my hands after traveling on any public transportation.

Giving a quick wipe down on a plane where you'll be sitting for hours, especially with kids who touch EVERYTHING, is far from germaphobe behavior. If you think it is, ok. Whatever.

Yeah I guess my kids must be older than yours (mine are 9,10 & 13). They are past the phase where they need to touch things and then put their hands in their mouths... And since we are wearing clothes, it's mostly just our clothing touching the seats. If I was going to wipe down anything I guess it would be the armrest or the tray table but I don't bother.

My kids are 12 and 8 but we've been flying with them since my youngest was only 1.5 yrs old.

That's all I wipe down, armrests and tray tables. Maybe I should've been more specific, I'm not wiping down the fabric seat or anything, just the high touch areas so if they have snacks they don't have extra germy hands as they pound Goldfish crackers for 3 hrs. lol

The seats are usually leather now and they actually do supply wipes on most airlines now when you get on the plane or in the seat pocket so you can wipe everything down.

ETA I just don't think it makes a difference. They just sat in the airport in a seat that I didn't wipe anything down. I don't know, I just don't care, and like I said we never get sick. Maybe if we were one of those families where the kids were always sick I would be more conscious of it.

Mine are similar in age and I just had to tell at one to get the remote out of their mouth. They are gross.
