This is semi-graphic, so please don’t read if you don’t want to.

I’m also posting anonymously for obvious reasons. I was 13 years old when someone I worked with where I volunteered sexually assaulted me.

I've read through this entire thread, and after reading what you just typed - I can't imagine how painful it must be for you to have read it as well.
There are ignorant, thoughtless people out there. It's very sad.

What about ppl that dont have insurance and cant afford the HUGE hospital bills?

I was going to post that too. It's not cheap to "just go to a hospital".
Same way it ain't cheap to "just call an ambulance"

Also- it takes time to get meds over the internet. The Morning after pill has to be taken pretty quickly after the intercourse.

Then like I said originally... if you need this pill that bad. GO TO THE HOSPITAL!

Case closed.

Easier said than done. Small towns = everyone knows your name. If you want to avoid telling anyone you also can't go where people would know you.

I think it's easy to say that's what you would do, but until you are in the siutation you never know.

The law is up for interpretation and thats the whole point.
As someone pointed out on the first page it all comes down to the interpretation.

"Wal-Mart is violating a state policy that requires pharmacies to provide all "commonly prescribed medicines."
from the original link

"Common perscribed medicines"
Diabetes insulin
Pennicilin
Allergy Meds
Astmha (sp?) inhalers

God I hope there isn't someone out threre that actually believes a morning after pill should be classified as a "common perscribed medicine".

If thats the case... we really need to re-think our values.

I think that its certainly up for debate and not as cut and dry as you make it out to be.
In fact, if everything was as black and white as you want to make this...its would be such a scary country and I would NOT want to live there.

I do think the law needs to be re-evaluated and at the present time, it isn't so black and white, if what is in the article is the whole story. As much as I dislike Walmart, I have to admit that there is room for them to manuever around this. They also must have a business reason for doing it -- alienating customers probably, because I don't think Walmart does anything that would cut into their profits.

If there is a judge out there that will side with the people opening the lawsuit that the MAP should be classified as a "commonly perscribed medicine"... then maybe I will change my view on this.

But hell... if that happens... why don't we just make it over the counter. Then every 16 year old out there thats irresponsible can buy the MAP at her local corner bodega. Chat Icon

No beef but can I just ask where that came from? It seems very "birthright(y)" to me?

Nope, you are probably right, I typed fast and went to the first site. After looking at the site again, it looks a bit slanted.

BTW - it is the source Sonia and Deb linked to......

No. 3 was just very its an abortion and its not...

Last I check, a store can "almost" sell and not sell what they want...

if i go to a deli and ask for prescrpitions, do i have the right to sue cause they "alienated" me?

DJ...i think you need to change the way you phrase your opinions. You are allowed to think how you want but the way you are stating your opinons are rude and abrasive. There are some very brave women here that have opened up their lives and you are berating them with your snide remarks. Have some deceny and respect.

Franly... just like everyone else here... I feel very strongly about this topic and I am entitled to my opinion.

The lawsuit is bogus.

This is semi-graphic, so please don’t read if you don’t want to.

I’m also posting anonymously for obvious reasons. I was 13 years old when someone I worked with where I volunteered sexually assaulted me.

He started first by trying to touch me when we had taken some of the kids we worked with to a theme park. He snuck his way into my seat on those “swings” that take you across the park in the air. While we were up there he tried to touch my breasts. Luckily (?) I had also grabbed one of the kids we were watching and she was in the middle, so I was able to get him to stop. After we “landed” I ran away from him.

I thought it was over.

About a week later I was setting up for arts and crafts while the kids were on the playground. He came into the gym and asked why I didn’t like him. I tried to leave and when I did, he pushed me up against the wall between the bleachers and told me he loved me. Then he tried to kiss me. I tried to push him away, but he was a lot bigger than me and he pinned me and told me if I screamed, the kids would come running and I would be responsible for hurting them. I stupidly listened. While he didn’t get to “actually” rape me, he did manage to penetrate me with his hand, ripping my hymen and causing me to bleed.

As we heard the whistle and the kids coming back, he stopped and left the gym. I told the counselor I worked for that I was sick and had to go home, and walked the 2 miles to my house in pain.

I never turned him in. I regret that now. But I was 13 and scared – they only thing I was thankful for was that there was no chance of pregnancy. If there was, I would have been extremely thankful for the morning after pill because there was no way I was going to a hospital or the police.

I never told my parents, my sister, or even any friends - only DH really knows the whole thing.

It’s scary and painful and the last thing you would want to worry about is whether you could get the medication you need to ensure you didn’t get pregnant.
