Bedtime routine? UPDATE!!!! and a THANK YOU!!!
at what age do you start doing an official bedtime routine? and what is it?
UPDATE---
Thank you to everyone who gave me advice for a bedtime routine We decided to start one with DD tonight (she is 8 weeks old) Well, it went GREAT!!! I saw DD getting fussy, I changed her diaper, put her in a sleep sack, and fed her her bottle in her room with the lights very dimly lit and placed her in her crib somewhat awake and put soft music on. SHE PUT HERSELF TO SLEEP!!!! I can not get over it. She has never done this before - we always had to rock her what seemed like forever!!!! She actually put herself to sleep and I can not be more than thrilled. She has been sleeping since 8 pm!!!!!
THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!

Re: Bedtime routine?
Started early, at like one month.
Bath every other day, half a bottle in the living room, then diaper change, pj's and rest of bottle rocking on glider in her room. We now also throw in a story sometimes.

Re: Bedtime routine?
We started around 8 weeks and its the same at 6.5 months. We give him a bath and then he has a bottle in the glider. His room is dark during the bottle. Then to bed he goes!

Re: Bedtime routine?
We started a routine right away. Bath every other day, PJ's and diaper, bottle in dimmly lit room and story. Now we actually don't do the story because he wants to play with the book so it's not calming. Instead we play soft music while he has his bottle.

Re: Bedtime routine?
We started at maybe 8 weeks with a solid routine. Bath every other night, pj's, dimly lit room and daddy gives her a BM pumped bottle and soothes her to sleep.
She's 3 months old today ( ) and I think we may move her from the pack n play bassinet to her crib tonight. Hope it doesn't mess up her routine or STTN.

Re: Bedtime routine?
We started at around 6 weeks. I call it "triple B" Bath, Bottle, Bed. When I'm feeding her her bedtime bottle I make sure that the lights are off or dimly lit and the tv is off. After the bottle I put her in her crib awake with the mobile on and she falls asleep on her own.

Re: Bedtime routine?
this routine started at 7 months when we did CIO with DD
7-730ish Dinner 730-8ish Bath (everyother night unless needed) 8-830 quiet play in family room with myself and DH 830 - bedtime. We put her helmet on (she has it off for 1 hour a night before bed and during bath). DH picks her up, I say "dream good dreams" to her and kiss her goodnight. DH carries her to her room and puts her in her crib. She's usually getting tired and will usually go to sleep w/o a fuss. Sometimes she'll sing in the crib or play with her lovies until she falls asleep
She doesnt really get a bottle before bed. Her last milk bottle is at 4pm. She has water or water/juice at dinner.

Re: Bedtime routine?
we started around 8-10 weeks
around 730, he would have a bath get him ready for bed (lotion, comb hair, into PJs) read a book or two bottle in rocker in room with lights low right into the crib
at 17 weeks he know expects that bottle after his bath. if we wait too long after the bath to feed him, he screams

Re: Bedtime routine?
I started DS around 10 weeks. Before that he was completely unpredictable as far as naps, eating and bedtime. Now it's bath (every other night), lotion, pj's, storytime and BFing. I try and start around 7:30 or 8pm, depending on when he got up from his last nap.

Re: Bedtime routine?
we didn't start until 6 months old....
for us, it didn't make sense to start one before then.
ours is:
breastfeed play on bed for 5-10 minutes change into nighttime diaper/pajamas read book into crib for bed

Re: Bedtime routine?
i learned somewhat from dd#1, with dd#2 it was easeir to not do a bottle as part of bedtime (hence, less to have to take away later on....)....she has milk with dinner and then takes a bath, pj"s and vitamin, quick snuggle and then poof - she's asleep! :)

Re: Bedtime routine?
7:30 bedtime routine and he sleeps an average of 12 hours straight per night.
Bath (every night), lotion, pjs, read Goodnight Moon, bottle, kisses, crib.
Doing this since he was 7 weeks old. He started sleeping for 6 hour stretches immediately and then it went to 11-12.5 hr stretches pretty quickly after that.
