D&C or cytotec?

Went for a sono today (8 weeks) and there was no heartbeat Chat Icon . Dr said I can do a D&C or take cytotec. An advice as to which one to do? Also, is there a certain time frame you have to wait before starting the next cycle?

Re: D&C or cytotec?

With cytotec you will have to pass everything on your own. It can be painful (very crampy). With D&C, you go to sleep, wake up and it's over. Little crampy and bleeding like a period

I would choose D&C. Sometimes cytotec doesn't do it completely and you need D&C anyway

I'm very sorry for your lossChat Icon

Re: D&C or cytotec?

I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost naturally the first time. The second I opted for a D and C. As long as you don't have any underlying medical issues that would be effected by anesthesia I would just do the d and c. It was over quickly and I felt physically fine other than a bit of cramping afterward. After my first MC I was told I could try again right away so I waited for my period and Got pregnant again. I am taking a break for now but I was told after my d and c I could start next cycle as well. I feel like I should've waited a little but if the doctor says its ok, it's really up to you. Good luck to you.

Re: D&C or cytotec?

So sorry for your loss. I had 2 D&Cs and it's a really quick and easy procedure. The 2nd time, I actually tried to mc w cytotec b/c they couldn't schedule the D&C for a week but it didn't work and I had to have the D&C anyways.

Also, if you want to have testing done on the tissue, the only way is with the D&C. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

D&C or cytotec?

I'm so sorry hun! Big hugs to you!! I think I would opt for the d&c also! I would want to go to sleep and wake up and have it over and have a period then to wait it out! And like others say the cytotec doesn't always work! Again hugs to you!!

Re: D&C or cytotec?

I'm so sorry.

I personally would opt for a D&C. It's quick and not as much discomfort as going through a "natural" mc with cytotec.

Re: D&C or cytotec?

I'm so sorry. When I lost my first I passed everything on my own. It wasn't comfortable, it was a mess, and quite emotional. I've had a few d&c done before to remove polyps and I would opt for that. Like mentioned above, its virtually painless, you are asleep, and its done by the time you know it. Just make sure you are OK with anesthesia.

Im really sorry again...

A D&C no question. Because I would want the embryo to be tested as well to show if there were any abnormalities.

YES!!!! Insist on this! My embryo was tetraploidal which is extremely rare and highly unlikely to happen again. It can give you and your doctor valuable information.

Oh I didn't know this was a possibility. Does insurance cover this?

My insurance did, yes. It's $2000 or $3000 otherwise.

I've had several natural m/c's and one D&C. The D&C produced a lot of anxiety beforehand for me, but it was over quickly and pretty painlessly, and then I just had light bleeding for 4 days. The natural ones, I bled and cramped so bad, I would have had to take a day off of work if it weren't on the weekend.

I am so sorry for your loss. Good luck.

I am so sorry you are going through this. If it were me I would opt for the D&C. I don't think I could bear seeing everything pass on its own.

Re: D&C or cytotec?

I'm so very sorry. Chat Icon

I did the cytotec and don't advise it. It was extremely painful, even with the prescribed Percocets. I was in so much pain it made me physically I'll. Like sweating, drenched.

My first and third mc I had the d&c. It was a lot better and they can do the necessary testing.

I'm sorry for your loss.
