1. A bath spout cover
2. dishwasher basket for bottle accessories
3. white noise machine
4. bottle cooler- is a diaper bag good enough?

its a tough call...i wouldnt worry about getting of these items right now to be honest

1 - a bath spout cover i find helpful when they turned 1 or so because they were in the tub, without a seat or anything and were all over the place. Maybe it is because my kids take a bath together, but they are constantly moving around (they are now 2 and 3)...so for me its a must. Many times it has saved a banged head. but as a newborn, you will not have them in a big tub so you have time

2 - I dont use the bottle basket often, but its inexpensive and i find it handy. we used dr browns bottles, which have a lot of pieces...its nice to be able to throw the nipples, straws and even pacifiers in there. but if you plan to ebf you dont need this

3 - dd wasnt a fan of it...ds couldnt sleep without it! see how baby sleeps, and if you think it will help go pick one up

4 - bottle cooler, as in a cooler bag? if you are ebf you wont need it. when your LO gets older and you transition to milk, i find it handy to use a cooler bag for the milk, and ice pack and even some food. we dont use a bottle cooler bag though... just a basic cooler bag.

so basically if these are items you want to put on your registry, i would skip them all

Re: necessary or unnecessary

I personally didn't use any of those things except for a bottle cooler. We'd be out all day & needed a cool place to store our made bottles. I have a couple of them, love them, & used them very often.

I agree with PP who said wait to get these things once the baby is here to see if you need/miss them. What works for one doesn't work for another.

I have a spout cover and haven't used it one. I have a sound machine that we use every night and I use powder formula so I don't have to worry about keeping it cool.

Re: necessary or unnecessary

1. A bath spout cover
Not necessary, but I like having it. DS is all over the tub and loves to touch the faucet.... We started using it around 1 year.

2. dishwasher basket for bottle accessories
Not necessary, but I used it more or less every day the first year he was alive since I hate doing dishes.

ETA: I just had regular Medela bottles and still found it useful.

3. white noise machine
Not necessary, but it does help some babies sleep. My DS personally prefers the lullabies his monitor plays.

4. bottle cooler- is a diaper bag good enough?
I EBF so I never needed a bottle cooler.

alot of the times, cooler bags you can get for free from the drs office. I have got 2 so far. One from my dr one from my oed the other day when we were there. I wouldn't buy one but I do find it handy if you are out for the day and bring a few bottles. I think formula, if already mixed, should be kept cool

The bath spout cover We had and took off. It got all moldy underneath and I couldn't get it clean.

Sound machine we do use. DD2 room is right by the stairs so we use it. DD1 now has music but we used for it for a long time.

the dishwasher basket made it so easy to store and cleadn the dr browns bottles. I wouldn't get it if I'm not using dr browns

I think it completely depends on the family situation and the child. I can give my answers but as you'll see they vary greatly from some of the others. My advice: get what you know you need immediately and pick up the other things as the need arises.

Bath spout cover is a must for me. DS is two and loves to splash and play in the tub. Much as I hang onto him, it helps me to know he won't get terribly injured with a head bang on it lol

Dish washer basket never used one - always like to keep his things separate in the sterilizer (hand wash first).

White noise machine another must - he's a very light sleeper and the tiniest creek wakes him. White noise machine steadies those sounds.

Bottle cooler - never used even once.

Re: necessary or unnecessary

We use 1-3 regularly. I never used a bottle cooler (not entirely sure what that is) because I breastfed.

Honestly the spout cover is preference in my opinion, but we have one (the whale) and I think it's adorable. The white noise machine is an absolute YES, and and the dishwasher basket we use everyday (at 2 1/2 anyway) because my ds's camelbak travel cups have a few parts which I put in there to clean.

None are needed

1. I didn't have one until DS was 2.5 and that's because someone bought it for him.

2. Our dishwasher has these little baskets so we didn't need it.

3. We used the beating heart on the white noise machine and then it finally broke. He spelt better after that. Honestly, unless you are in a noisy neighborhood I don't think it's necessary. What if you sleep out somewhere? Will you bring it with you?

4. We had a bottle cooler but we rarely used it. We ended up using room temp water with formula, totally fine.

I haven't used any of those things besides the white noise machine. DD needs it to sleep.

Re: necessary or unnecessary

Sound machine is very useful & important!!!

I use a regular cooler to transport my pumped milk home from work, but I didn't know they made coolers especially for milk bottles... probably not necessary.

Never had a spout cover or a dishwasher basket.

Thanks everyone! I kept the dishwasher basket on, because it's only $6 and I'll be using Dr. Brown's bottles, and kept the Dohm sound machine on the registry as well. Seems like of all items, the sound machine was half and half on the list of importance

I removed the cooler and the spout cover. I realized that the skip hop bag I registered for has some insulated pockets, which should be just as good as a cooler. I have a fridge at work, so whatever I pump can go in there. I kinda thought the spout cover was unnecessary, but it gets confusing when friends and family start texting you saying "You NEED to register for...."

Re: necessary or unnecessary

For me the only necessity is a cooler bag. We use powder formula but I find it so helpful to have with the kids. If we are going out for the day I can pack yogurt for the baby without having to worry about it going bad. I find I actually use the cooler bag more as my kids got older than when they were babies though.

Re: necessary or unnecessary

no to all except white noise, no need for an independant thing we use an app on the ipad for white noise for our older son and it was amazing! see if your baby reacts well to that first before you buy anything seperate
