gas pains- 4 week old
My formula-fed 4 week old has been in so much pain for the last couple of weeks, but I feel like it's just getting worse by the day :( If she isn't eating or sleeping, she is screaming and kicking her legs all the over the place until she farts or poops... I keep reading online that it is normal and goes away by around 6-8 weeks, but I just feel so bad for her :( I've tried mylicon drops and gripe water but they don't really work

Re: gas pains- 4 week old
Maybe ask the Dr if you can switch to a gentlease type formula

Gas in newborns is the worst. Things to try: Bicycle legs Bend both legs and hold into stomach. That almost always gets a fart out Colic calm Mommys bliss gripe water
Also try a diff formula but give it a couple of weeks before changing anything. It takes awhile for their bodies to adjust and you don't want to switch all over the place.
It will pass...no pun intended. Just another rough phase.

I had this with my DS. What kind of bottles are you using? He was sucking in so much air with the tommy tippee bottles it was horrible. I also switched his formula.

using dr browns and similac advance... switched to sim sensitive and she was wayyyy worse and wouldnt poop, but i gave it a week to be sure that it wasn't working for her.. I went back to sim. advance and she was pooping more regularly, but the gas pains are still an issue

Check with your insurance, its possible they may cover. My insurance covered half so it came out to what regular formula costs, but yes I did need a note from the pediatrician and they had no problem giving me one.

Re: gas pains- 4 week old
I took my DD to my chiropractor for gas and colic and it worked wonders. She did infant massage and adjustments. The baby laid right on me and basically slept through it. It was gentle. Look for someone who specializes in seeing children.

Re: gas pains- 4 week old
I've heard great things about Dr. Brown's bottles- I switched to the playtex bottles with the liners and it changed everything for us. We push the extra air out and there was no way he was taking in extra air. Also, I always noticed that when DH was feeding the baby that he didn't burp him that much so when the baby started getting really crabby I would put him on my shoulder with a little pressure on his belly and he would burp a lot which always helped DS's mood lol. I'm just trying to think of things I did cause I know how hard it is to hear your baby crying from gas pains.

DD went on alimentum. New baby. I would not switch without asking your ped first. If you wanted it covered you'd need a script anyway.

Similac total comfort was a game changer when DD2 was a few months old.

Re: gas pains- 4 week old
We went through this with dd1 but she also had eczema and was wheezing and she ended up having a milk protein allergy and needed rx formula.
For dd2, she ended up in gentlease formula.

update- i think it was a growth spurt that lasted like 4 days because she is like a totally different baby now. She went up a size in clothes, grew 1 inch, and gained 1 lb 2 oz since 1.5 weeks ago! She has been much happier for the last 2 days and doesn't seem to have gas pains anymore. So weird!

My DS did the same thing last week. He was totally grumpy for a few days (which is very unlike him) and then all of sudden was happier and sleeping much longer. I also found out he gained close to 3 pounds and 2 inches in his first month so he has been doing a lot of growing!
Glad your DD is doing better!
