Re: ok.. Palin is pro-life...
well i guess if she is hunting and eating what she hunts... it's no different than picking up a steak at Stop & Shop...
but, if it's just a sport thing, it's pretty gross.

As I have said before, I would never equate a moose with my future unborn children. No matter how cute a moose can be.
I don't really understand why people have such a problem with this, I TOTALLY understand being pro-choice and being against hunting but to feel like an animal is the same as a human - I will never understand. Even though I definitely love my dog like a human!
Of course, Liza - you can question this more than anyone since you are a Vegan but as for others who eat meat and all that, I don't understand the confusion.

ITA with this.
ETA: I used to be vegan and can see the confusion, but an animal is not the same as a human life, IMHO.

I don't agree with sport-hunting (I'm OK with hunting for the meat because I'm a meat-eater), but killing for fun is beyond me.....However, I'm on the fence about saying a person doesn't have the RIGHT to it......not sure.....

Re: ok.. Palin is pro-life...
this is something I find almost laughable about anyone that would call themselves "pro life" but is a capital punishment fan AND a gun an card toting member of the NRA.
it makes NO sense logically, but she feels righteous enough not only to BE a walking contradiction, but to also ask (and perhaps command by law) people to adhere to her contradictory beliefs.
especially since one of the arguments the NRA uses is the argument of protections...if we took that a step further...this woman could KILL someone that broke into her house...she could shoot them dead and feel justified...
but she will be DAMNED if she will allow ME to terminate MY pregnancy if that is MY choice...b/c a life is a life.
riddle me that.

I'm a nonjudgemental Vegan. I actually think people who eat what they hunt can be ecologically sound. However, hunting for sport, like aerial wolf hunting, is killing for fun. And I doubt god would approve of that. All life should be honored and respected If the being is innocent...

Re: ok.. Palin is pro-life...
I would have to say the majority of people who hunt do it for sport, for fu they get a thrill out of stalking and killing. A small percentage of hunters do it just for food - out of necessity.

This is exactly what I said to my DH last week while I was trying to learn more about Sarah Palin.
Life is Life, unborn child, grown person,etc...Maybe I take the term Pro-Life to be too literal, but I'm sure I'm not the only one to think that way.

Actually, Trig is a Scandinavian name that means Faithful. His middle name is Paxson (sp?) which is after an area in Alaska that she has always loved.

Yeah, I don't get it either. Hunting and eating what you hunt is okay IMO, but hunting just for the sport and killing an animal? I don't get it. So you can hang the skin somewhere? Weird.
I'm pro choice, but in some ways, I think I'm more pro life than some folks. I could not abort my own child (though I think it should be an option for women), I don't hunt, and I am not not for capital punishment. But maybe I don't understand the term pro life.

See, I always thought pro life just meant anti abortion. period. and did not refer to capital punishment or animal rights at all.

Re: ok.. Palin is pro-life...
I'm pro-choice and a gun owner. While I personally do not hunt I know that hunting is done for sport, food & also for nuisance control. Wolves are serious predators that are prolific breeders in some areas. I know people that are chicken owners that have had entire flocks that were in secure chicken pens savagely killed by wolves that broke through. As someone that practices animal husbandry and someone that is a complete animal, bug, reptile, fish, bird lover, I can tell you I would shoot to kill any predator that threatened my chickens. IMO is really difficult for people that have always lived in urban & suburban settings to understand the realities of living year round in a place like Alaska.
I'm personally MUCH more offended by the amount of chemical warfare Long Islanders have impossed on our local eco-system & our water supply by using the Scotts program on their lush, un-natural GREEN toxic lawns than by someone hunting wolves. Its really easy for the pot to call the kettle black in every situation.

seriously though, the term pro life is and has always been misleading.
I mean, look at the "pro lifers" that kill abortion doctors and blow up clinics.
they are more concerned about being "right" than they are about preserving life.
a "pro life" person should be against the death of anything...and should be for any advancements of LIFE (ie stem cell research)
Jesus wouldn't put ANYONE to death...unborn baby, roaming wolf, or convicted serial killer alike.
THAT is pro life.
anything else is picking and choosing...and pardon the pun...shoots down the validity of the argument.

You make some great points. I guess using that argument I cannot consider myself pro life either something to think about!
