Regardless of who you are referring to, why are you jumping on her and singling her out? Just because she chooses to declare her feelings about a particular candidate?
"Singling her out"? Last I checked, she started the thread, so I responded
Yes, but your response singled her out. She asked a general question that had nothing to do with her personally

Re: Anyone agree???
I think the inaugural balls are exciting and it would be a shame not to have them - obama should use some of the money he raised for his campaign.

i dont know if anyone has really given it any thought, and like i said, i would feel that way for either candidate.
it is SOOO much money and people are really struggling historic or not, it is MILLIONS of dollars
that's extremely unfair...and it must be easier for one to say that when they have "NObama" as their avatar
What is unfair about that? Its actually very considerate and logical
It would be considerate, but not necessary
Who said life was fair?
I dont think "who said life was fair" is a good starting point for a new President
And I don't think "toning" down a historic celebration would do justice

Exactly. "I guess it is easier for one to say that when they have "noBama" as their avatar""
I am not getting into a drama thread, so don't bait me. This is however, exactly how they start, when one person singles out someone else.

No. I do not. The ball is part of history, of the process. To cancel it would be a travesty.

Re: Anyone agree???
Actually, I think its a GREAT time for an inaugural ball ...
I think of it as a way to stimulate certain parts of our economy. Think of all the people who will have a job to do while putting this party together -- event planners, decorations, music, etc.
I would prefer that it was with his own personal money, Oprah's money or with funds already raised for his campaign. Not a great way to spend tax payers money.

funny b/c i looked up who pays for the inaugural ball (they have a committee) and in 2004 some questioned spending millions on the festivities when there was a war and b/c of the tsunami - so this post was a good post b/c the same question was asked 4 years ago.

truth is... not EVERYONE is struggling... there will be a few billionaires out there, who are not only philanthropists but will probably donate to this...
Considering it's a historic event in American history, I would expect nothing less...
who knows, maybe they'll use some LIF vendors

I think people are just trying to take away his thunder.
Let the man celebrate, heck I bet if anyone here was ever elected the PRESIDENT of THE US they would be celebrating, I know I would.
I agree, besides...I bet Oprah will be financing the party and her party planner will be running the show for sure!

He had them - I attended. They are not as glamorous as everyone thinks they are. I think Obama should have them, not because he deserves them more because of the historic nature of his election, but rather because it is a rite of passage and a tradition for every president.

Re: Anyone agree???
A lot of money was spent on both campaigns. $150K on Paling wardrobe. I am sure both sides had dinners, hotels expenses, etc...
The man won. Let's let him enjoy his victory.

since you brought it up
she spent more then that
plus $30K on clothes for her kids
and everything is "missing" - I heard her say that none of it was her's to keep- but it looks like she took it all (and 8 suit cases that she bought to transport it)
(she was only told by to buy 3 suits and a suit for Todd)

well CNN is reporting today that McCain aides said that even after the story about the $150K broke, she kept on buying more clothes and made some low level aides put it on their credit cards. And that she has not given back most of the clothes like she said she would

so what did dubya do???
He had a $30million one in 2001 and a $40million one in 2005...but I believe that the tax payers are only in for $1 million for the swearing in ceremonies and then the security for the event...lobbyists pay for everything else.
I always try to think about the waiters, chefs, bakers, staff that are getting paid too...the money is going back into the economy.

Hey I'm all for the nation celebrating the culmination of our democratic process and the ushering in of the new President and administratin.
As I said beforeI think most people would agree that if they were ever elected PRESIDENT they would party their azzes off.

This is along the lines of what I was thinking - it's not like he's flushing the money down the toilet, he's spending to stimulate the economy, keeping people employed, etc.
