WOW, it's funny that I saw this today, because...
...DD is almost 7 months old, has been BF since birth, and I am about to take the plunge into BF in public for the first time today.
I am very much a "pump and bottle feed" type person when it comes to going out in public. I'm just not comfortable with it and feel like everyone will be looking at me. I have the nursing wrap, but DD loves to try to pull it off.
We are boarding the plane for NY today, and CA on Tuesday, so BF is pretty necessary. I'm so nervous about it. I just want it to go well, you know?
So if you could, send me some vibes that DD doesn't pull the wrap off and show my goods to everyone in the airport
YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!
FYI I wear a nursing tank ON TOP of my nursing bra when I am in public, this way I can pull UP my shirt and DOWN the bra and tank and not flash everyone my Love handles, makes me a little more comfortable!!!!

I have been EBF my DS for almost 3 weeks now. I want to start pumping but I don't know when I should start and when I should pump? Also, which bottles do you use when you pump? Are there any accessories that I need?
Does anyone have any advice? I really would like DH to be able to give him a bottle and I want to start a stash for when I have to go back to work in Sept.
Thanks!
Hey Ivelysse!! I've been thinking about you...how is the BF going? Sounds like it is going well!
I started pumping simply by pumping for about 5-10 minutes after each feeding. Not only does this boost your supply, but it also gives you a little extra to store and use as you need.
You'll find that as time goes on, you'll be getting more and more for each pump. Then, when DS is on more of a consistent night schedule, you can pump last thing before you go to bed. I started the night pump when DD was about a month old (that's when she started sleeping through the night consistently) and I still pump right before bed. Most nights I can get 8-10 oz, and I'm proud to say that my freezer stash is nearing 250 oz!
Best of luck, it sounds like you and DS are doing great!
Beth thanks so much for your reply. We are doing well but I am nervous about the whole pumping/bottle situation.
I think I am going to start this week. He will be 3 weeks on Monday but my milk is good. So I can pump after each feeding? That sounds good.
Pumping before bed sounds good once he isn't getting up anymore.
I wish you luck on your flights!

Re: **Breastfeeding Support Thread**
This thread is great!
I have another question. DS is one month old and I have been EBFing. It has been going very well. I have been pumping too but mostly to build a stash for when I have to return to work.
Anyway, lately like the past 2 days, DS has been spitting up a lot more after eating. I am worried that he isn't eating enough and is spitting up too much.
Any suggestions? SHould I call the pediatrician this morning?
Thanks!

Re: **Breastfeeding Support Thread**
I wouldn't worry too much about the spit up. It usually looks like a lot more than it really is. Try feeding him more upright and burping him more often.
Some babies just spit up a lot. As long as he seems satisfied and is having wet diapers, I wouldn't worry.

if its just spitting up id leave it alone..if you notice anything else, like painful crying, or silent gagging, now would be the time reflux would appear..i noticed my dd had it at a month old..she was spitting up more and gaging alot, it almost looked like she had those "throw up" burps..they put her on axid and shes much better now.

I agree... Some babies are happy spitters... as long as he doesn't seem to be in pain its fine. Just keep lots of burp rags around!

Re: **Breastfeeding Support Thread**
My DS is refusing the frozen milk from the month of April. He did drink the March frozen stash. I smelled the milk and it doesn't smell sour, but when I defrost it and put it in the fridge, it gets very thick at the top. Is the milk bad? Am I defrosting wrong. Generally I will defrost the night before and refrigerate and DS will drink this bottle first at daycare.

Question for moms that pump
Approximately how many ounces did your little one eat at a time at 3 months? And how often?
Thanks so much!

Re: **Breastfeeding Support Thread**
At 3 months, DS was in Daycare. He would drink 3 bottles of 6oz. Keep in mind that DS was 15lb 6oz at 3 months.

I'm not sure if I'm good to go by because Alexa was so small and still is. She was drinking 3 ozs every 3-4 hours.

At 3 months, DD was eating about 5 1/2 oz in a bottle at a time. ETA -- every two hours

DS started daycare at 3.5 months. He was taking 4.5 oz. every 3-4 hours. I increased the bottles to 5 oz. shortly after that. Around 6 months, he started taking 5.5-6 oz. bottles.

Re: **Breastfeeding Support Thread**
Thanks everyone!
Now in order to build my supply I should pump after every feeding?
I have been pumping 1-2 times per day but I'm guessing I need to pump more. Currently I get about 3 oz each time I pump. Is that about right?
Thanks again! I really appreciate it!

Re: **Breastfeeding Support Thread**
Hi, my baby is 4 weeks and he is soooo hungry I can't keep up. I want to supplement a little formula with my breast milk.
I have been adding 1oz to my breast milk but it seems to upset him and sometimes he pukes it right up.
What is a good way to start adding in formula and which type is best?
Thx

Re: **Breastfeeding Support Thread**
For the past few days- DS is not eating nearly as much...
He gets very fussy at the breast after a few minutes...
He usually eats 10 min on each side...and Im lucky if Im getting 5 min on one side...
What is going on...and how long do I let this go on?? What can I do?
He had a few pumped bottles last week..and IM so nervous that it has put an end to nursing..??
