Bringing Dogs in Stores
How do u guys feel about it?
I luv dogs, but I think people are really getting carried away bringing their dogs everywhere they go.
I was in the supermarket and this woman had her dog with her. She was busy yapping on her phone, and the dog leaned out of her bag and was trying to lick the peppers. Over the summer, I was in Macy's and this lady's dog wouldn't stop barking.
Did stores used to have signs that said, "No pets allowed?"

Re: Bringing Dogs in Stores
Ha... just saw a woman in 7-11 this morning holding a dog... I didn't even see her. I just got my coffee together and turned around and almost banged into her. I thought... does she really need to bring her dog in here? Can't sit in the car for a 5 min 7-11 run.
My dog is at home and that's where he stays. I love him, but I don't need to worry about him while I'm out shopping. What if the dog has to go?

Re: Bringing Dogs in Stores
For research, read the related threads at the bottom of this page.
For the record, I wouldn't dream of bringing my dog in any eatery. Even if he was a lapdog and able to be carried around in a bag. I respect other people enough to understand that it's disrespectful, not hygienic and there are plenty of people out there who are terribly allergic.
That said, I had a lengthy conversation with The Guide Dog Foundation of Smithtown about becoming a puppy raiser. That would necessitate exposing the puppy to situations it would encounter as a service dog. Including supermarkets, where it would have to respond favorably to things like loud shopping carts, and refrain from taking interest in anything other than it's handler. It's illegal to prevent access to someone with a service dog.
I realize it's not the same thing and that a service dog is less likely to eat and lick things, or cause a disturbance. In those situations, obviously, it's ok with me.

Everytime I see a dog in a store I think of this topic and how heated it gets.

Re: Bringing Dogs in Stores
I am a huge animal lover. I have 2 dogs and 2 cats.
I do not think any animal belongs in a store, restaurant, etc. unless it is a service animal. There is just no reason for it.

Re: Bringing Dogs in Stores
Dogs do not belong in stores, especially where food is served/sold, etc.
Once it does become acceptable, I can't wait to bring my 90 lb mutt around with me.

I don't really care THAT much but I do agree that it's disrespectful and inconsiderate. I also completely agree with you and your point about service dogs and never think twice about a service animal being anywhere.

Re: Bringing Dogs in Stores
So funny, because bringing a dog in the store bothers me less than when someone has a screaming kid in the store, and can't control them...

Tell us how you really feel!
I agree though. I have a small dog (Pug) and I would never bring her into an establishment where other people get their food from, or are eating...

Re: Bringing Dogs in Stores
The guy who ran the cafe in my building used to tell me to bring my dog in to say hi. He never understood why I refused.

Re: Bringing Dogs in Stores
I love dogs....as you can prob. see from my chat avatar I have a wonderful lab named Max
That being said...I would not bring him or any other dog into any establishment other than the vet, a park. Now if he were a service dog or being trained as a service dog I would have no issue.

Re: Bringing Dogs in Stores
I was just at the mall yesterday and saw an older woman being "escorted" out of a store, with her dog in tow I was so proud of mall security Muhaaaaaahhahahahaha...
My opinion: Dogs do NOT belong in stores, period. It's not just an issue of respect, or sanitation - it's also profoundly disrespectful to the myriad of people who have severe pet allergies, and have an expectation that they can roam free in certain stores without an allergic threat.

LMAO
Nope!
FTR: this was in Key West. I have seen up to ten dogs in the restaurants at one time! They are very pet friendly there. We wanted to order take out from this restaurant but the owner begged us to stay - the chef then came out and gave Brutus his very own sausage!

I remembered this picture and was hoping you weren't going to explain.
The only restaurant I've eaten at with Brinkley was in Montauk. They had outside seating and we asked first. Everyone who came into the restaurant stopped to meet him, he was in Labbie heaven.
