Please read this I am Adam Lanza's Mother

Mental Illness is a taboo subject, especially in higher income families. I cannot speak for his mother nor am I defending her in any way but maybe she didn't know what to do or how to handle it. Maybe the "taboo" of it had her in denial.

but to have those weapons was irresponsible.

The only things I have heard about Adam Lanza are that he was
1. Home Schooled
2. Anti Social
3. Never left his house
4. Was in music classes
5. Was a vegan b/c he didn't want to hurt animals (this is what I heard last night)

I don't think his mother knew he was as far gone as he was. She told a friend she felt she was losing him. I doubt she thought she was losing him where he would shoot up 20 6 & 7 year olds in a school. She probbably thought he was facing a deep depression.

I know many people who have battled depression, none of them have ever said they had thoughts of murdering people.

He also went to buy a gun a couple days before and was denied. if her guns were so out in the open and ready for use, then why would he go buy his own? I don;t think she should have had the type of guns she did in her home, but I also don;t think she ever thought in a million years her son would do such a thing.

No one interviewed said this kid had a violent history, everyone says the same thing, he was quiet.

There are soooooo many people in this world that fit the description of him above, I don't believe anyone would have even classified him as mentally ill, from the facts that are out today about him.

I agree with this. I haven't read any reports about a true diagnosis of mental illness, the only issue that has been mentioned is POSSIBLY having asperger's. The public does not know enough yet, nor does it seem the experts do. It's all speculation and jumping to conclusions so far. They know that this was very controlled and deliberate though. He wanted to take a lot of innocent lives. And didn't want anyone knowing anything about what he did on his computers since he damaged them all.

But what if she didn't know he was mentally unstable. No one interviewed said he was mentally unstable. They said he was quiet. we don't know where she kept the guns. they are legal to have right now, she she didn't do anything wrong.

Re: CT shooting..god I'm not looking to start drama..but

I haven't read all the posts on here, but I do see a lot of people going back to the article I am Adam Lanza's mother.
She said she was threatened with a knife. After that she had to keep anything sharp away. I don't know if the real Adam ever threatened his mom or anyone, but to suddenly go into rage I would assume he had to of threatened someone or even mention suicide. Again, just speculating here.
Why on earth would you even keep sharp objects around... That's if he ever made threats to her, anyone or to himself.

Look, this is why I'm against gun or at least in favor of stricter gun laws. Seems like anyone can snap nowadays.
The nurse that killed herself bc she put through a crank call of the queen.
Even though the person who owns a gun is 100 stable, doesn't mean the pple around them are.
I do blame her as well, but right now my mind is all over the place. Hoping to have more answers like anyone else.

CT shooting..god I'm not looking to start drama..but

I think there are a ton of people to blame. Both his parents had to know there was an issue. His brother had to know there was an issue. The school that let him be homeschooled in 10th grade knew there was an issue. Any doctors he saw knew there was an issue. Was he on any medication and who was monitoring the side effects? Regardless of what his diagnosis somewhere someone should have stepped up. I think everyone turned a blind eye and look what happened. I am literally sick and can't turn on the tv because I am still crying over those poor children.

I have the same feelings as the OP. I was actually a little taken a back when I heard them doing a sort of tribute to her on the news this morning.

I don't really know how I feel on the issue yet because I don't think we know enough. But I do respectfully disagree with this. Whatever she knew or didn't know, or did to keep guns away from him or not, this woman didn't deserve to be shot to death in her bed by her son. I don't think HE should be glorified at all and I don't even like to say his name, but this woman was murdered and whatever details do emerge - she didn't deserve to die the way she did.

I agree, I was watching Katie Couric the other day and she had a mother on that lost her child in Columbine and she was saying that she met with the mother of the shooter shortly after the incident. She felt that they were wrongly vilified.

I really don't know what to think at this point so much seems like speculation. We don't know any facts about the shooter. The one thing I can say is that she should have had those guns in a secure location and it doesn't seem like she did.

i do NOT blame this woman may she rest in peace. (now the question of why she purchased all those guns DOES stand out in my head but until further information is available on that ... i digress)

I am Adam Lanza's mother

Also, where was it confirmed that he had "mental illness'?" I've heard speculation of Autism or Aspergers. His family has described him as "different, quiet" but not dangerous.

Do we blame the parents of serial killers? There is just not enough information yet. My tune may change but we need all the details first.

Not sure how true this is, but watching news and they interviewed s former babysitter. He said the mother said to never let him out of your site. Not even to go to the bathroom. Come on... If that's true then she knew something. No need to keep those deadly weapons in the home.

When I heard on the news that she actually took him to the range, thats when I had to shake my head at her... No one knows their child is going to go ballistic one day, but if he has a disability, I dont think he should be handling a gun...

I can certainly see why someone would feel that way.

Personally, I don't think we have all the information about his possible mental issues. Everything is speculation. Things have been said by the news and then retracted. Is it confirmed that all the guns were legally registered to her? The last I heard they said on the news was they were "possibly" registered to her. Unfortunately we will never get the answers since they are both dead and can't make speculation about someone who's no here to explain themselves Chat Icon

I also saw that "they" are interviewing ANYONE who will crawl out of the woodwoks. They interviewed his MIDDLE SCHHOL bus driver on the Today Show. I saw an interview where a girl said she went to middle school with him.

They all come out of the woodwork, and the news finds ANYTHING to interview.

There is no "official" word on what was wrong with him, if anything.

So no. I dont blame his mother.

You can blame who you want.

But blame doesn't erase it.
Blame doesn't heal.

She paid the ultimate price for her sins.. or lack thereof.

I hope she is able to rest in peace.

And for the record, Autism and Aspergers D/O are not categorized as mental illness, they are Development Disorders.

Re: CT shooting..god I'm not looking to start drama..but

I blame her. First when I heard that her son had shot her I thought that poor woman but how would she have lived knowing that her son did that to 26 people. Then I found out that she was the person who owned these guns knowing that her mentally unstable son was living with her and who could get access to them as he did then I no longer felt sorry for her and I do blame her.

I don't understand this either. People are saying they don't feel bad for her because they THINK she ignored signs. No one has facts, and no one knows what went on in their home. The only one to blame is the killer himself. he had this planned, if he didn;t use her guns, he would have found another gun or possibly made a bomb.

Talk about judging a situation before facts are brought out, it's ridiculous. After we hear facts, then post comments about her being the cause or whatever you want if thats what FACTS say, but come on people this woman is just as much a victim as everyone else.

The guy walked into a school and murdered 20 5-6 year olds in cold blood... I don't need a diagnosis in writing to know this man was mentally ill/unstable. He clearly was.

drugs? drugs can make people do some crazy things but they don't make you mentally ill. Not that I am saying this WAS drugs - keep your minds open!

I read an article with an interview of her friend. I dont know how reliable the source was or if was someone just wanting to be in the news (if so, that's disgusting, but anyway). The friend stated that she said Adam was taking a turn for the worse and she was worried that she didn't know what to do with him. I just feel like with something like this there had to be some signs that he was mentally disturbed.
