IMO She was stealing. I try to go prepared, however if I forgot a snack and my child was freaking out I MIGHT open a thing of goldfish or something... something we would later scan when we check out. Maybe it was her worst day ever, she wasnt thinking, was planning on paying for it but not thinking it was sold by the lb. IDK. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt.

Eh, doesn't bother me. If DS or DD was freaking out and this would save my sanity in order to finish shopping I'd give it to them but wouldn't just offer if they were behaving kwim? (My kids love bananas lol)I would however tell the cashier and tell her to scan another banana so I could pay for it.

I am more digusted at the fact that she fed him unwashed fruit.

An unwashed banana?

Not to start banana drama here, but this one really got to me-- what is your reasoning behind washing a banana? I mean, I'm pretty over the top... I wash watermelon and canteloupe, because when you cut into them, bacteria from the outside can then get into the fruit. But when you peel a banana, you're essentially peeling AWAY from the fruit. Where is the contanimation?

...there is no way to pay for it once its eaten.

Well, that's the thing- there is a perfectly easy way to pay for it after it's eaten, as many people stated on this thread. I am yet to steal a banana from a store and my kids eat one each on every trip to TJ's. Chat Icon

I frequent Stop and Shop regularly. I go there for their scan it feature. If my child wants a banana, I tell him fine but he has to wait until I weight it and scan it. If I am in Target where I pay per banana, I just hold on to the peel to remind the cashier to ring it up. However, I would never give my child something without paying for it.

Would it bother me no don't care enough for it to ... Would I do it no I try to hid the banannas from DD cause I know she will want one if she is insiting on having one I pay for i first then give it to her.

On a side note I can't believe people actuall get annoyed At people who eat and drink in super markets I go every where with my bottle of water and drink it. I think it's amusing I might actually be annoying someone.

If you REALLY love your dog, it's ok because then rules don't apply to you.

I have done it at trader joes. At other stores, it's goldfish. but always paid for at check out.

If people have problems with my kids eating in the supermarket, they would have bigger problems with us without that distraction. Chat Icon

Re: Curious to see what everyone's thoughts are on this-

I usually give DD a snack that can be rung up (something with a package). We were in Best Yet one day and she kept grabbing apples and biting them while I was choosing peaches Chat Icon Chat Icon I brought 3 apples with 1 bite taken out of them to the register. The cashier told me not to worry about it Chat Icon I felt like a dope.

I don't think it's a big deal. It was for a kid- if I saw her take a banana and start eating it- I'd think she was a little weird.

A woman walked into Stop and Shop the other day while I was there talking on her cell phone. She walked up to the cherry display, took a handful- popped one in her mouth and kept walking and talking.
I was a little Chat Icon but I wouldn't run and tell on her or anything

Curious to see what everyone's thoughts are on this-

I don't think it is a big deal. I don't know that I would pick something like a banana that needs to be weighed, I would likely pick something that needed to be scanned. NOT paying at all is wrong but in the grand scheme of things I don't think its such a huge deal.

Re: Curious to see what everyone's thoughts are on this-

I've done it. And I always have them take a banana from the bunch, weigh it and add it to my total AFTER weighing the full bunch. This way, I'm paying for the eaten banana.

Re: Curious to see what everyone's thoughts are on this-

My mom actually did EXACTLY THIS with me when I was a baby. She said it kept me occupied and allowed her to shop! Chat Icon Maybe the bananas were sold Trader Joes style (per banana) because my mom told me that she used to show the cashier the banana peel and pay for it at checkout.

I see nothing wrong with it .. maybe because my mom did it with ME as a kid.. although, I can see both sides.

Re: Curious to see what everyone's thoughts are on this-

It was wrong but in the grand scheme of things, who cares. If the kid was screaming and a banana makes him happy, then fine. Hopefully, she paid for it at checkout. Life's too short.
