Did YOU get the flu shot?
All of us got it. DH has to for work, and my girls ped gave me one when my almost 3 year old got hers. My 6month old just got the first dose last week and will go back for the 2nd one in 3 weeks. Hope we all stay healthy - especially the baby!

Re: Did YOU get the flu shot?
It's funny how many peds will give it to parents. So they bill the insurance for you even though you aren't a patient? My ped's office wouldn't give me the Dtap when I asked 2 years ago They said they couldn't and I had to go to my own Dr

Re: Did YOU get the flu shot?
Nope
I don't normally and see no reason to change my stance on it now.
My daughter (who is 4) has never gotten the flu shot either, nor will I give it to her.
My husband doesn't either (our house is a flu shot free home)
We were just talking about the flu-scare and Boston's situtation here at work during lunch (we had a going away lunch). Heard half of El Paso has the flu too. Only a handful of my coworkers has gotten the flu shot even tho we work literally across the street from walgreens where is currently free.
Still not getting the flu shot. I am just being diligent as I always am. If youre sick, see a doctor. Keep hydrated, dont blow off symptoms. Seems fairly common logic to me.
Flu isn't deadly on its own, its the lack of proper care that does it. The last time we had the flu, both AJ and I had H1N1 but luckily neither of us got the nausea or loose bowels. Just tired, body aches, fever and overall yuck. But I feel that since we both got no treatment (due to the docs, not us) we built up immunities for it. Not 100% safe but some.
Do I think the flu is serious? Yes
Do I think if you feel more comfortable taking the flu shot its a waste? No
Do I think *I* need or my daughter needs the flu shot? Nope.

Did YOU get the flu shot?
The one year DH and I both got the flu shot, we got ridiculously sick with the flu and we vowed to never get it again. And neither of us have gotten the flu since, so we skipped it again this year. I'm home on maternity with DD until March so I think I'm safe anyway

Re: Did YOU get the flu shot?
I absolutely did, way back in October. I got the real flu last year, in January, and NEVER again do I want to feel what I felt then. I will never skip getting my flu shot again. Not to mention the guilt that I felt about the possibility of getting my DS and my family sick even though they had their flu shots - even with the vaccine they can still get sick, albeit not as severe.

Did YOU get the flu shot?
I wasn't getting it becuase I'm pregnant and paranoid about those types of things . . . Then I started hearing about how bad it is this year, how many people are dying, how dangerous it is for young children and pregnant women especially. I finally got it about 2 weeks ago and just got DD's today. I really think it's a good idea to get it.
The whole notion about the flu shot making you sick is a myth. You could potentially have an allergic reaction but otherwise I'd say any illness directly following the shot is just a coincidence. The only exception is the live version, which I believe might make you sick but nowhere near what the actual flu would do.

Yes. My job provides them for free... DS always gets one. DH usually gets one, but for some reason this year he hasn't.

Did YOU get the flu shot?
Yes I got mine in October. This is my second year getting the flu shot and I plan on getting it every year. I had the flu in 2009 and it was TERRIBLE.

Re: Did YOU get the flu shot?
Question- everyone is saying "how many people are dying" etc How common is it for a normal, healthy adult to die from the flu though? Is this some deadly strain or something? I know the eldery, young babies, immnocompromised people are more likely to die from flu- but how many people are dying? And what is their age, situation etc? I dont' hear much about an average healthy adult dying of flu unless this is some weird deadly strain

I saw a news report saying something like a dozen children have died from it already. They also reported that otherwise healthy adults (not the elderly) are being hospitalized, which is unusual. So yes, I think the strains this year are more serious than in the past. There are also a lot more cases of hospitalization than in a normal year and it's still early in the season.

Re: Did YOU get the flu shot?
No. DH and I do not get the flu shot - not before kids, not now. That said, I do not and will not give my kids the flu shot either.
If there were ever a year where almost all the people getting the flu shot do NOT get the flu (like most of the other vaccines), I would actually consider it. But, as in the past, almost all the parents and kids I know that have tested positive for the flu (albeit I don't know that many in total) - had the flu shot this year. So far we haven't had the flu in our house THANK GOD. But, until the vaccine is 95% effective I don't see the reason to take the risk of the shot - for me or my kids.

Re: Did YOU get the flu shot?
Yes, all of us in the house get it ever year. This seems to be a really bad year for it. According to official hospital reports, there are quite a lot of healthy adults under the age of 50, teenagers, and children dying of the flu. Still more at-risk people dying, but healthy people are also dying.

Re: Did YOU get the flu shot?
I've heard a lot of "flu shot doesn't mean you won't get the flu anyway" which can be true...BUT having the shot CAN help minimize flu symptoms. My son got the flu 2 years ago...he was dealing with it OK, we were surprised he tested positive for the flu. I'll never forget the doctor telling us that his symptoms were lessened because of having received his shot. He also had seen kids who were very very sick because they weren't vaccinated.
Why do people not get it for their kids? Just wondering. What are you worried will happen? Other than a child with a severe egg allergy, has anyone ever had their child react badly to the shot?
