I got it for $19.99 at Waldbaums right before Christmas. That's a penny cheaper than my copay had I gone to the doctor. Chat Icon

Did YOU get the flu shot?

I have never gotten a flu shot and haven't had the flu in well over a decade. DH has never gotten one either and also has never had the flu.

There are more than one type A strains. It could have been one not covered. I'm confused are you saying she got the flu bc she got the shot and you all didn't bc you did not get the shot? Implying she got it bc she had the shot. Or just pointing out that she got the shot and still got sick, while others luckily were spared.

I'm not saying she got the flu bc she got the shot...I'm saying the shot did nothing for my DD! Just proving a point you don't need the flu shot to protect yourself from the flu.

Thank you...I wasn't sure. Btw interesting that I was speaking with a mom that said one of her children was pretty miserable with the flu. They tested the others. One tested positive who was just cranky but never got sick, one tested negative. I thought it was interesting the one who got the shot was negative but the one who was positive never got sick. Makes me wonder if in cases like you described that maybe the person has the flu or a carrier but doesn't get sick. I wonder if they had that strain before and therefore some immunity. Also makes me wonder how often those who say they didn't get sick did in fact have it bc honestly I don't know many doctors who test everyone. Usually it is just the sick person tested. So the one not showing symptoms walks around spreading it bc they don't know that they have it.

Nope, DH and I have never had one. Not planning on getting one either. Neither of us have ever gotten the flu.

My older kids haven't had a flu shot in years. My 10 month old had the first of two, but I can't bring him in for the second booster shot because he can't have any shots until after his surgery.

Everyone in our house gets it. I do require thimerosal free versions for the children though. Is it 100% effective? No, we know that. But hey, if it reduces our risk even a marginal amount, I'm happy.

Re: Did YOU get the flu shot?

I have never had the flu nor have I ever got the shot. If that ever changes, I may reevaluate my choice but for now, no flu shots for me.

DS gets the shot.

I don't get the flu shot. The only 2 times I did was when I had DD and DS (at the ospital both times) and I got the flu both times that season , odd right?
My DD and DH get them and DS wil too, but no more for me.

No, I never have, I feel like I can handle it if I did (I know I say that now & I'd probably regret it if I did get the flu)
I'm so up in the air about giving it to DD. I still didn't give it to her because I feel that is cruel to give her a shot that I wouldn't get myself.
On the other hand, she's only 1 & a half, what if she gets it & is too little to handle it?
We've been lucky & healthy so far but after I read up on it a little more I'll decide if I'm going to give it to her.
Sorry I got off the original topic of ME getting it, all the other thoughts just came out with itChat Icon

I am like you- never had a flu shot in my life and I really don't feel comfy geting one. I just always worry about reactions. I dont' even take meds if I don't have to- I freak out about side effects

But the reason I give it to DD is that the flu is worse in babies and young children and also she is in daycare which is just a breeding ground for every bug known to man.
I feel like if I got the flu I could handle it as a strong healthy adult, but with a young immature immune system I worry about her.
So that's just my line of thought in regards to what you posted.
I know it's a hard decision to give them any vaccine.

No, none of us get the flu shot. We will use Oscillococcinum if one of us gets the flu.

Re: Did YOU get the flu shot?

I got it this year when I was in the hospital after I had my DS. My husband got it because he works in the medical field. Only 1 of our kids has gotten it so far.

I heard that the flu vaccine this year is not efffective against the current strain of the virus anyways.

Did YOU get the flu shot?

I got it in the hospital when my DD was born andDH got his shortly after we brought DD home. We both got the flu shot last year in the fall but ended up getting the flu in the spring anyway, so the shot doesn't protect 100% but I'll still get it every year because some protection is better than none IMO.

Did YOU get the flu shot?

DH and I have never gotten a flu shot and never will.

DS had one or two when he was younger and then we decided since it isn't required, he will not be vaccinated for flu any longer. I do not see the need to introduce things like that. He has never had the flu and I've had it once in my life. Miserable, yes but you deal with it. I don't believe the risks outweigh the gains in this case.

Yes, I have gotten it every year after I had the flu in 09.

Although my sister works in the ER at Winthrop and she said there are a lot of people who had the shot coming in with the flu.

And this is what absolutly floors me to the stupidity of information people THINK is out there.

(I want to be clear I am not calling YOU stupid, just the mentality that the flu shot/medication/vaccination is useless)

The flu shot saves lives. It isn't useless at all. Facts. Evidence. Science. They all back this up.

I hope no one listens to you and forgoes a flu shot because "average joe" who thinks they know better says "Oh yeah, its JUST useless".

This statement could not be further than the truth.
