I consider myself a PROFESSIONAL...Before my DD was born I made the same or more money than some of my friends for worked for some very large corporations that some might think are "higher than a nurse".
The point..i think it is unfair and rude to label someone's profession less than someone else when you dont know all the facts.....that is IGNORANCE to me! and I am sorry...I am not a sensitive person...but I am highly offended to read a comment like that.
No offense to you but what you are saying is pretty much the same thing just a different example. Money doesnt make the person.
I am NOT saying money makes the person just saying that it is offensive to label someone as higher than someone else in regards to the JOB. SOrry it it came off wrong.
Its the internet so no worries.
Perhaps I understod what the poster meant because I have a RN in the family who took a 2 yr program and makes decent money- Once that happened and she bought a home she looked down on everyone and everything. So my personal experience understood what the post meant.

Thats the truth. I am a recruiter so I can tell you right now doesnt matter what job, neighborhood etc. Its all about survival and tryign to provide stability for Us, our little or not so little ones.

there are plenty of homes in Lindenhurst Village for under 350K some 225-245K if you don't mind some hard work.

Oh i meant to say those who buy 225-245K need some work the 280-350 range you can get a pretty nice house. I read that over and i realize i wasn't clear.

oh lordy....who cares why anyone wants to live anywhere, what their preferences are and what types of towns, whether working class or affluent, diverse or homogeneous someone else wants to live in? You dont need to defend the area you live in or take someone else's preferences so personally.
Its their life, their money, their home, their children's education. It has nothing to do with "you". People have every right to prefer certain areas over others, just as "you" can prefer your area to theirs. There is no need to get into a pissing match every.single.time. someone wants to live in an area different than yours and cites THEIR reasons for THEIR preference. For some people location is important, as is prestige or whether it tends to be a white collar or blue collar area, for some it's not. Nothing wrong with that.
I do not get this.
ETA: this does not apply to the direct shots taken in this post regarding one persons career being better than someone elses. Just bc you think it, doesnt mean you should say it.

How does anyone know that I'm not a nurse? Or a PA? I don't care if you're a plumber (which are important job _ we always need them and they are a necessity) or a brain surgeon. I don't care if you went to trade school or ivy league. There is an entitlement complex some people suffer from where even though they can't afford a "decent house" in , let's say, jericho, then they complain. They are advised to look in more affordable areas that fit their budget and they turn up their noses. "Oh, I can't live in centereach or bellport..I won't have my kids associate with THOSE kids". And they only want to live in certain areas for the "prestige" and "school system". What if william floyd was top rated but had the same rep? You know people would still stick up their noses to it. Not all, but a select few. I can't argue with ignorance. I have respect for nurses the same as I do an exterminator. We all contribute to society somehow. Unless you're paris hilton, but that's another story. Sorry if I offended anyone. I want my kids to be with all kinds of people...that's how real life and the real world is. You can sanitize it during their childhood, but then the turn out to be just like the next ignorant home buyer... Scared and ignorant.

For the record, I totally agree with you, and usually stay out of these kinds of discussions. However, one person on this thread did not just state a preference for one town over another. She did not state she prefers one school district over another because of test scores, number of AP classes, whatever. She stated she did not want to live in certain areas (which I assumed to include the one mentioned in the OP) because she would not want her children to be around THOSE types of people. She said that the people who live in these areas are uneducated. She was insinuating all sorts of things that, frankly, aren't true. I'm sorry that I found this to be highly offensive being that I live in the mentioned town.
I do understand that people feel certain ways about certain areas, but to come out and actually say something so intolerant and disgusting is not called for and I believed that I should say something.

I agree. I was talking in the general sense when posts get like this and directly about the responses in this thread that my comment applied too. Like I said, my comment did not apply to the direct hits that were taken in this thread...I did say just bc you think it, doesnt mean you should say it.

I found 41 houses under 350K in Elwood, Northport and Harborfields schools. I'm sure there are houses that are slightly higher that will sell for under 350K as well.
not to mention the other" huntington" schools (huntington, so huntington, HHH, CSH (OK that one you can't touch with 350 - or even 550) and commack)
the OP and a poster on another thread used huntington as an examples- so I searched huntington- not northport, not huntington station etc
every house I have ever showed in huntington is over $475k with taxes over $10k and a modest home in comparison to what I could find you in Coram/Centereach/Selden for that money- which is the point of this post
I am sure you could find something less expensive in northport- but that's not huntington either
Kind of a tangent to the rest of the thread but I would say that in general Northport is more expensive than Huntington as most of it is on the water and it has a more desirable school district than Huntington (other than Harborfields). Currently, there is only 1 house in Northport under 350K and I really do not consider that area to be Northport Village.

OMG with the drama!! Everybody is so defensive. I wasn't talking about Centereach AT ALL. & I apologize if it came off like I was. I certainly would not consider Centereach to be a bad area. DH & I would gladly raise our family in Centereach & have looked at homes in that area. I grew up one town over & know the area WELL.
I was NOT referring to the house in the post above. The only point of my post was that School district is highly important to DH & I. I know every school has its problems... I went to a 'good' high school myself.
I cannot even believe the downright cruel things that were defensively posted to a misinterpreted comment. There are areas of long island that DH & I agree are not the right places for our family. I would never list them on LI families or IRL because I have many friends in those areas & I would never want to offend somebody. I am not into drama at all & certainly did not intend to start a drama post.

My BFF lives in Hingham and has FOREVER! I used to love visiting her as I thought the town was just so pretty!
It's a beautiful town to live in as an adult, but as a young teenager moving there from another town that wasn't as 'nice' as Hingham, i definitely felt out of place! It was also really boring for a kid. Now.. believe me, i'd love it, but couldn't afford it!

We live in the Three Village district, but I think the Centereach library is sooo much nicer than ours, and I love their kid outdoor play discovery area!
