Re: GD Girls.....Support & Q & A Thread
i actually had something weird happen this morning and i wanted to talk to you girls about it....
I get up - take my normal 'waking up' blood...
Get a HIGH reading (for me) - a 99.
Please note - when i get up - i use alcohol swabs to clean off my finger and wait for that to evaporate and then do the prick.
I was like, whoa, that's high. Let me confirm...so i use a different finger (same hand)...and again - wait for evaporation...and do it (why stick myself twice??? because i'm insane and i have NEVER had that high a number in the morning)...
83 this time...
?????????????

Re: GD Girls.....Support & Q & A Thread
For those BTDT girls....
do you have any words of wisdom/support about how to get yourself to 'pull the trigger' on the needle thing when checking your blood?
i am STILL having times where i just can't do it, have a crying fit and it takes me 15 minutes to do a 30 second thing...

Re: GD Girls.....Support & Q & A Thread
no advice as it doesn't bother me at all (& I used to be very scared of needles) but be sure to use the upper side part of your finger, not the middle of your finger pad. it will get a bit calloused and hurt less over time. do it quickly- no delaying & thinking about it- just do it. don't allow yourself to get worked up over it, just do it! boom! it's over and hurts less than popping a pimple! i've found that with this disorder, there's a lot of "sucking it up" when it comes to the testing and the eating (& possibly insulin injections) because we have to do what's best for our baby. it's unpleasant and unfortunate, but be strong! it goes by soooo quickly, you'll be eating incredibly healthy, gain less weight & have a healthier baby. you can do it!

Can anyone share their post-dinner snacks with me? My morning numbers have been high (above 90) every time.

This is helpful Jess, thanks. I've been trying to change it up, but nothing I seem to eat is helping!

Maybe make sure you do the carb requirement (i find if i don't hit mine, it's an issue)....along with a protein...
so maybe for you - do any of the above suggestions AND a string cheese or 2... get a protein in there...which cuts the carbs!

Re: GD Girls.....Support & Q & A Thread
for my BTDT moms.....
1. when you had your beautiful babies...how long were they taken from you after they were born???
My GD doc told me she'll be taken from us for 8 hours....
2. IF you did - how much weight did you lose during the pregnancy? I've lost 8 pounds so far..the doctor isn't worried - as i was WAY overweight to begin with...but just curious! I've been following the diet rather religiously...

Re: GD Girls.....Support & Q & A Thread
Hey Jess, I had GD with my DD(still waiting on my results on the 3 hr test for this one)....but after my DD was born they didn't take her away from me for long at all. The longest they took her away for was to clean her up, and to put her under the lights(she was slightly jaundice) And she was probably back in about an hour maybe 2. My issue was her sugar levels. I was trying BF and they were pricking her foot every hour to get her sugar to go up and it wasn't so against the advice of the lactation counselor I tried the formula. That worked great for me to get her sugar level's up so they didnt have to keep pricking her tiny little feet. So I BF and FF for a little and then went to all FF.
As for the weight thing. I didn't lose much with her. See by the time I found out I had GD I had gained 26 lbs by the 24th week. And the dr's were like your going to gain another 26 in the last 3 months. Then they found out I had GD and after I went to the dietician and regulated the diet my way I only gained 3 more pounds for the rest of my pregnancy.

i keep forgetting that most people aren't diagnosed as early as i was... i guess that's why i am losing weight

1. when you had your beautiful babies...how long were they taken from you after they were born???
I gave birth at 10:54 pm. Was in recovery by 11:30 pm DH left to go home around 2:30 am They brought me the baby sometime around 4ish I think.
2. IF you did - how much weight did you lose during the pregnancy?
From week 27 (when I was diagnoses) to week 37-1/2 (when I delivered) I only gained 6 pounds. And this was at the point that DS was gaining 1/2 pound per week, so I was really losing while DS was gaining I guess.

Re: GD Girls.....Support & Q & A Thread
okay - since i have all the questions - here's one more...
as many of you know - i was diagnosed with the GD very early (due to my family history).
I have been on the diet alone since week 16...i'm now almost at 26 weeks.
I have been dealing with a bad bronchial thing for about a week now and was on medication for it. I have been noticing an upswing in my numbers that is likely due to the illness (i hope & pray)...but here's my question...
At what point were you medicated & were you put on insulin or the pill glyburide? How often did you have to take your meds, etc..?
thank you so much more than you could ever know for always being so helpful!!!!!

Re: GD Girls.....Support & Q & A Thread
Any suggestions for breakfast. All of my other numbers are fine but it seems that no matter what i eat for breakfast i can't get the number below 140. This morning i even tried just having a bowl of cereal with milk. I figured I was doing what the nutritionist said so i was doing the trial and error thing. surprisingly it was only 155. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

This morning i just didn't care and had the cereal and milk. I know not a good idea. but this is what i've tried before with not much better results.
toasted mini bagel, with 1 slice american and 1 slice turkey breast. - my sugars were still 142
tried egg whites on wheat and peanut butter. I just don't get how my breakfast numbers are consistantly 141 and above and my lunch and dinner numbers are usually in the 80's. I'm wondering if tomorrow morning i should try what i eat for lunch or dinner for breakfast and see if that helps??

my guess is that you are not able to process 'regular breads' that early...it happens.. A toasted mini bagel is still a lot of bread...really..
grab a package of weight watchers english muffins - i promise you - the taste is JUST as good as the regular ones... See how it goes doing just that and maybe some peanut butter (or regular butter) on it in the morning.
during the day your numbers are in the 80's? that's very WOW...mine are always higher during the day (but they are allowed to be)...

Re: GD Girls.....Support & Q & A Thread
i'll have to go out and try the weight watchers muffins. I'm just trying to figure out how my numbers can be so low throughout the rest of the day but so high in the morning. Well i have to see the doc and the nutritionist again on monday so we will see what they have to say. Half of my trick to keeping my numbers low throughout the day is i have 1/4 cup of walnuts right before or after my meals. I did this when i had my DD and figured i would give it a try. I havent been able to eat the nuts that early in the morning though.

I don't want to speak for anyone, but a close friend of mine on here had a very similar problem...hers was her FASTING numbers were always high. She was put on 1/2 a glyburide pill and things got better....
When you do your evening snack, are you sure to have some protein and not just carbs only??
Oh how i wish i liked walnuts...now pistachios - MY GOD i love them...
