Funny because we were in the store the other day and some younger guy pulled his mask down to talk to his friend. Dh wanted to say some but I said it wasn't even worth it. Besides this one guy, I don't think I have ever been in a store where everyone wasn't wearing a mask.

Not the stores in my area and I rarely see anyone without a mask even when they’re outside.
same here, except for my neighbors this past weekend. It is none of my business, I am not going to be the mask or social distancing police.

Re: Getting back to Normal
We were in Home Depot and Walmart over the weekend and both were very busy, especially HD. People were wearing masks inside the store, but not outside but that doesn't bother me as I do not wear one once I am outside either.
I notice people seem a little more chatty now, less afraid of everyone. I actually like that because I miss smiling and talking to people. For a while everyone was so weird around each other.
Hopefully things slowly move back to a more normal way of life. I never realized how good it would feel to get out and run errands and be in the world again. I have really missed that.

Yeah, well there are only two stores open around here to buy clothing Etc. Target and Walmart. Kids are growing, people need things other than food. So those two stores are going to be insanely crowded. Not everyone has weeks to wait for their stuff to order online.
Hence why they should open up other stores like now. To take the burden off the 2 stores that ARE open and hence less crowds. Ridiculous nonsense that makes zero sense
Or....shop online and lessen the burden on the people working in the stores

At this point, shopping online is getting to be a headache. A lot of items won't ship and are in-store only and shipping times have become SO long that you are waiting forever for things you need right now. Also, there are times (depending on what you're shopping for) that shopping in person is easier. For example, clothing and shoes................especially when you're shopping for your kids. We also just moved into our new house right before this happened, we need furniture and window coverings and a bunch of other things that I cannot buy online. It's frustrating.
At this point, there isn't really a justification for keeping some stores open and other closed. What is essential to one person, isn't to another AND if we can shop with social distancing and masks in Home Depot or Target then we can do it in Kohl's or Foot Locker. It's past time to open more shopping up.

Yes we can do that and then why not just shut all the stores down permanently?. Who cares about people's jobs. I know this is hard to believe but there actually are people who want to get back to work. Who want to reopen their small business so they can survive. Crazy, I know.

Getting back to Normal
I went to the mall yesterday to walk around the outside area. Thankfully it wasn't as packed as I feared it would be (maybe since only half the stores were open) but only half the people were "wearing" masks. I say "wearing" b/c the individual stores were requiring masks, but people would take them off as soon as they left the store. There was one mom that had 5 younger kids - all running around, touching everything - not a single one wearing masks. No one was social distancing. I had my mask the whole time and I walked far away from people whenever I would pass someone.

The mall was open? Oh you are in another state right? Was it an inside mall or an outdoor shopping center?

There are people who want everything closed until the magical vaccine comes out. Which could be in 6 months. Or 18 months. Or five years. Or never. An article I read yesterday (by a scientist) said that the first vaccine available will not be the best one. In order to to get the best vaccine possible, it takes years of clinical trials and research.

Everywhere I go (which isn't a LOT but some) - only about 1/3 are wearing masks, and some of them aren't even wearing them correctly (pulled down so their nose is exposed).

Yeah - I live in NC. It's an indoor and outdoor mall. Mostly restaurants are outside, with a few smaller stores, and inside has the big stores, food court, medium sizes stores. Only half the stores were open but Macys and Belk were (JC Penney wasn't).

I haven't been anywhere where everyone wasn't wearing masks.
Funny because we were in the store the other day and some younger guy pulled his mask down to talk to his friend. Dh wanted to say some but I said it wasn't even worth it. Besides this one guy, I don't think I have ever been in a store where everyone wasn't wearing a mask.
The other day I had to go to Target because I realized my little guy grew like a weed and he had no clothes that fit. As I was grabbing some shorts, there was a man there looking at the toddler clothes too. Then he asked me if I thought the outfit he picked out matched. Without thinking, I pulled my mask down to look at it. I said to him "I'm sorry! I don't know why I just did that to look at the outfit!" and he just cracked up. Like I could see the outfit better with the mask lower? LOL So dumb.

And those people are just having a false sense of security. How long has the flu vaccination been around and how effective is that? I know tons of people that end up with the flu who have been vaccinated. In fact I know a little girl who was in ICU last year who had the flu vaccination and still got the flu and almost died.

There are a lot of false senses of security. Like temperature checks. So I can walk into my office today and get scanned and show no fever- even though I was exposed to the virus and am about to get sick.. I can spread my germs around to everyone all day and then go home tonight and spike the fever. Yes, a temperature check will weed out those with a fever already- that's good. But it's not going to make everything safe.

Doesn't the flu vaccine only protect against the most common strains going around that season? Doesn't mean you can't get another version of it.

This is true. We always get the flu vaccine. One year recently my husband and I caught the flu after being vaccinated. However, it was much more mild than when I've had a full out blown flu without the vaccine in the past. My friends who are physicians still recommend the flu vaccine in years when it is found to be less effective because it can decrease your chance of hospitalization. I think one key difference between COVID and the flu is that we know a lot more about flu and its course and transmission. Whereas with COVID, we are still learning unfortunately.

same here, except for my neighbors this past weekend. It is none of my business, I am not going to be the mask or social distancing police.
This! I couldn’t care less what ppl are doing. They have their own reasons and it’s none of my business. Did u see the video of how a woman got kicked out of Shop Rite (I believe that was the supermarket) by the other customers for not wearing a mask? Disgusting!

People have no right to police other people like that. Did they stay 6 feet away from her while throwing her out? Wouldn't it be less risky to ignore her and stay a distance than to get all up in her unmasked face? Just like with road rage...I always say you shouldn't start with anyone on the road because you never know who is a psycho and may have a gun or chase you down etc. Start with the wrong person over a mask and you may regret it. I remember when Cuomo came out with the mask mandate he made some comment like you wouldn't be arrested for not wearing one but he would hope others would say something to you if you didn't wear one. I remember thinking, yeah that's a BAD idea. People are unhinged and only getting worse the longer they are locked up...you don't want to be encouraging mask vigilantes.

What is with you and your dramatics?
If people NEED - as in, it's an absolute need versus a WANT - by all means.
I think society needs a lesson in needs versus wants.
Leave the stores open for the people who need it, find other places and things to do to "get back to normal," and get a life.
