It’s a complete shit show. It’s like buying concert tickets. I got my parents booked in Stony Brook for February, but it isn’t clear if it is only 1a or 1a and 1b (they are 1b, 74 and 77) and a page on SB’s site is very unclear. It basically says they are sort of doing 1a, but then they start talking about 1b and they don’t have the updated info that it is now 65+, but then they say they will take 1b Chat Icon .

I do still search every morning for somewhere closer to them, but they were really happy to at least have the appointment and know that there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

The system in Germany is not that much better either. They have broken residents into zip codes and everyone is assigned a vaccination center, i.e. you can’t travel for your vaccine. I filled out the questionnaire and they will call me when it is my turn. It’s super slow here because they don’t have enough of the vaccine yet. I suspect NY doesn’t have enough either, hence all the difficulties of getting an appointment.

Good luck to you!

Keep looking for other sites. I had been checking for Stony Brook yesterday. It appears to me (and I am no expert) that yesterday they were still only doing 1B for essential workers. Other sites were saying if you are eligible based on age, bring proof of that. Yesterday, I don't believe Stony Brook did. It is my understanding that Stony Brook is opening it up to the aged and immunocompromised next week. The way to Stony Brook yesterday was not through the NYS website. Perhaps your parent's appointment will be allowed, especially since it is February. (I cant imagine them to turn the elderly away.) But keep looking, as you are doing. I think times get added or updated throughout the day. Good Luck

Their website was definitely confusing but hopefully it just wasn't updated since they didn't even mention 65 as 1b and were still listing 75. I have a lot of family members in 1b that made appointments for there yesterday. If the registration process was similar to when I made an appointment for dh I would assume it asked what made you eligible in the scheduling process.

Yeah, I noticed that it wasn’t updated from the 75+, so that’s why I was confused. Yeah it asked your birthday and then a few questions later it asked if you were under 16 (maybe 18, I forget). I then realized that it wasn’t really organized.

One of my coworkers went today to Jones Beach. She had a 10:00 am appointment. She arrived and went on line at 9:30. Everything went smoothly until after her getting the shot. After she got the shot she was moved to the waiting area. At this point she was supposed to get her 2nd appointment. Unfortunately the computers went down while she was waiting. She had to wait over an hour to get her 2nd appointment.

They did quickly rectify the problem for others though. They started making the appointments for everyone else while they were getting their shots. So people were actually leaving before her even though they arrived after. Besides that hiccup she said everything else was well organized and went smoothly.

I have an appointment on Saturday around noon. I plan to arrive half hour early.

My dad went today for his shot and it went quick. In fact they interviewed him, and is on news 12

Just a heads up, anyone who booked through that Stony Brook website will be getting a letter saying that appointment is voided. It was shared without authorization. It is not an open site yet. Our Union President is pissed.

We got the letter too. All the school districts around here got it as well and they are pissed. I don't blame them. I just need to find somewhere for my parents so I'm pissed too! What a shit show. I can't believe they did not think of a better way to roll out these vaccines. Are they that stupid up in Albany?? That was rhetorical as I know the answer Chat Icon

And the resolution to cancel the appointments is quite dumb. They should keep the appointments and try to figure out how to fix it for the people they were going to target with the private link.Chat Icon
