Has anyone been successful at putting DC to bed later, to get them to sleep later in the AM?
I keep telling DH it does not work like this, and putting her to bed earlier will actually help her sleep better. But, I thought I would investigate a little to humor him.

DS stayed up till 1AM with us on New Years Eve....He was up by 7AM New Years Day. In this house, nope, that theory does not work. You are right about earlier to bed. Sometimes that does definitley work.

I've always put my kids to bed later and they've always woken up later. It has always worked for us but I know it doesn't work for everyone.

Re: Has anyone been successful at putting DC to bed later, to get them to sleep later in the AM?
Depends on their age IMO. As a baby no that never worked. It did JUST start working( he just turned 2).
Example..... Last night Noah refused to go to bed, he had a late nap...he didnt fall asleep till a bit after 10 pm....he slept till 10:50 AM!!!! Lately that has been happening more and more. If he goes to bed at 9:30 ish he sleeps till 9:30 ish the next day...the earlier , the earlier he wakes. But like I said, this was NOT THE CASE at a yr old and before.

It's never happened in this house. No matter what time he goes to bed he is up at 6:30

Nope. Doesn't work for us.
ETA: actually, if we try keeping them up they get so overtired they won't go to sleep at all and we have a horrendous night.

I'm not including my DD in this because, she calls the shots
But with my DS, even now...If he stays up later, he has a horrible night sleep and still waked up at an un-Godly hour And forget it, if he doesnt nap....terrible night !

Re: Has anyone been successful at putting DC to bed later, to get them to sleep later in the AM?
Doesn't work here. In fact the opposite happens. If we put him to bed later he wakes up EARLIER!! And Ryan already wakes up between 5:30 and 6 as it is.

Not that my one month old is on a schedule, she tells me when she's going to sleep but I have noticed that when she goes down around 8:30PM she lasts until around 2 or 3 in the morning for a feeding, but if she doesn't go down until 10 or 11, I'm up more frequently with her.

We do our last feeding with our boys btw 10:30 and 11. They usually begin to move around at 5 and I push them off till 6 to eat. Then they go back down until about 10. They will be 4 months tomorrow.

Re: Has anyone been successful at putting DC to bed later, to get them to sleep later in the AM?
This works for my DD but only recently it has started to work. Well actually she has decided to do this on her own. I would actually like her to wake up earlier. She wakes at 11ish but wont sleep until after 11pm ugh

Re: Has anyone been successful at putting DC to bed later, to get them to sleep later in the AM?
my 2 like their 11-12 hours. So if they go to bed a little later, they generally wake up a little later (this is all new for Erik, but its held true for Ella for awhile).
last night Erik went to bed at 8:30 and woke up at 7:45. (he's usually in bed by 7:30 and up by 7).

I thought this would work but whether DS goes down at 7, 8 or 9, he wakes at 5, 5:30!!

Ditto. MAYBE if we're lucky we get 7-7:30 out of him if he's up REALLY late but he's pretty darn consistent.

Re: Has anyone been successful at putting DC to bed later, to get them to sleep later in the AM?
DS started going down to sleep at 7-730... sometimes its 730-8.. tonight it was 830...
i think regardless - my little angel sleeps about 12-13 hours.. DH has him in the morning, and says DS will wake up in the morning, but puts himself back to sleep for another hour...
that might help... we dont go in and pick him up unless he is crying..
good luck

Re: Has anyone been successful at putting DC to bed later, to get them to sleep later in the AM?
I have the opposite problem (and it looks like i am the only one). My DS is a total night owl. The later he goes to bed the longer he sleeps. I've had the worst time trying to get him to an earlier bedtime - it may work for a few days but, then, he manages to get it later again. I actually wish he would go to bed earlier and wake up earlier!

Re: Has anyone been successful at putting DC to bed later, to get them to sleep later in the AM?
With Jake, it doesn't work - my DH thinks the same. I feel like he just has an internal clock that wakes him up - it is part of his routine. The litte guy does tend to sleep later on the weekends - he really is his fathers son!

Re: Has anyone been successful at putting DC to bed later, to get them to sleep later in the AM?
For us this worked, especially when he was an infant. From 12 weeks on, the later he went down, the later he slept. Last New Year's eve (at 16 weeks old) he napped from 10-11:30, then went to sleep around 1 am and woke up 11 am the next morning.
His bedtime as an infant was usually between 9 & 10 pm and he would wake between 9 & 9:30 am. Now he's on an 8:30 - 7:30 schedule.

Re: Has anyone been successful at putting DC to bed later, to get them to sleep later in the AM?
Nope DS wakes up between 7 and 8 every AM no matter what time he goes to bed the night before!
I will say it has gotten later as he has gotten older. At one point he was getting up at 6am.

Re: Has anyone been successful at putting DC to bed later, to get them to sleep later in the AM?
nope and I have read in many "baby sleep books" and heard from drs that if you put them to sleep too late they will wake up even earlier or the same time in the morning. Who knows, every kid is different.
