I don't misunderstand faith, and I really find it insulting that you would try to say that I lack it. I have never made that acucsation against anyone.

What was brought up were NOT Why do you believe in god?

but two separate issues that have evidence for and against and can theroetically be reasoned about and discussed

the first was evolution. there is evidence of evolution occuring. the question was people who reject that evidence of that one scientific conept, not questioning a belief in god.

the second was an example of specific passage in the bible..again not god him/herself but a book and facts about the book.

NEVER did anyone say "Why do you believe in God?"

Not the same questions.

The belief in God is a complete leap of faith. Although some have tried I don't think you can really make objective arguments for and against. But you can make arguments for and against evolution and of one interpretation of the bible.

I'm sorry if you were insulted. I guess I see it all the same way: belief in G-d, belief in the bible. Its all faith to me.

People have faith in creation- something with scientific theories to the contrary. But because of people's faith the believe it. You are challenging that and asking people to explain. To me, its all the same: One's belief in G-d, One's belief in the bible and all or even some of its parts- its all about faith.

You are saying you beleive in part of the bible but not all of it. So how can you challenge people who believe in the that same bible, but believe all of it?

Its the same to me. Its faith and it can't be explained.

ETA: Lets face it, their are more logical explanations for some things in the bible. But if you believe in things like the virgin birth, the holy trinity and the resurrection, its based on faith. And since you can't explain those, stop asking other people to explain their beliefs.

Really i'm surprised. People seem to think that when I ask a question I expect everyone to answer or that they have to answer me.

Obviously you all think I'm a lot more important than I do.

Actually, no... at least, I don't. Chat Icon

But when you start off the day calling a group zealots and idiots, then continue through the day starting threads or adding posts to threads that are designed clearly as a outlet for you to further push the fact that you think others' beliefs are stupid or beneath your superior knowledge and intelligence, don't be surprised that some people will actually feel the need to defend themselves, their faith, or the right of others to believe in whatever faith they want to without having to be called out time after time after time.

This has become exhausting and frustrating and this whole thing is really becoming passive aggressive. You get so "passionate" about your beliefs and how you feel about others' beliefs. Then, when people call you out on the fact that you might be disrespectful, your answer is "Oh, well, I didn't mean it that way. You took it the wrong way." When you start threads designed to keep up the same discussion with the same people, and people respond with disfavor, your response is now "What, it's not like you had to respond!" - "It wasn't directed at YOU!" - as if people aren't going to defend something that means a lot to them or something they are passionate about just because you put it in a different thread. When you ask a question designed to make others look stupid and get intelligent, well-reasoned insights, you can't even acknowledge the well-reasoned insight, but rather you change the scope of your question to continue whatever goal you have in mind -- which to me seems like you just want others to rally behind you and your supposedly superior beliefs.

Saying "you don't have to respond" and turning it on everyone else is like walking through Manhattan naked and saying to passersby "What? You don't have to look!" I don't know if you're out for attention or to make yourself seem smarter and better than everyone else or what... or if you genuinely want to learn something and are that misguided in communication styles... but I can say this -- whatever your intentions actually are, you don't come off as actually wanted to broaden your horizons or learn anything.

I actually relate to you on a lot of levels. We may disagree on many fundamental things, but I think we are both passionate people who are firm in our beliefs. However, I think you need to step back, think before you put fingers to keyboard, and assess what you REALLY want to portray when you post here. I'm not the only one who finds that your posts don't appear to be genuine questions, but rather a means to continue to pound *your* point into the ground.

If that's NOT your intention, you need to find a more constructive way to go about what it is you're getting at...
