You have to pay extra and they only have 2 private rooms which are pretty small

Southampton Hospital has all private rooms. they just renovated the entire maternity ward and each room has it's own bathroom and shower. It's very nice

North shore has private rooms - when I went you could not reserve in advance. I got one though and worth EVERY penny!

I know that sounds crazy but I DO NOT want to have a roomate at Winthrop. And I have a problem with their knew visiting hours policy.
I had a c-section there for DS. I could not go to the nursery to BF him. He was in the room with me.
With the new policy, if I cannot get a private room (Which I was able to get on my 2nd night until my leave), I could have a roomate who has visitors most of the day.
1/ I could not rest 2/ I was in a lot of pain with the c-section. I cannot take pain killers so Motrin was barely make a dent. So in such event, I could not be with DS if the roomate has visitors. 3/ I strongly believe in not having DC expose to strangers. I did not go inside our family and friends' house with DS for 8 weeks. It's not to expose DC to strangers visiting my roomate.
I really like Winthrop and I love my Dr.
I am really torn about this. Because this is very important for me to be able to rest, have DC with me and not have visitors breathing on us and disturbing us.

I totally understand how you feell!! DD was an emergency c-section and while I was trying to rest & bond with my new bundle of joy, the girl next to me was HORRIBLE to share a room with.
She snored louder than DH, left her T.V on ALL night, talked on the phone all day, not to mention her IV was in longer than mine so I would get to listen to it go off at 3am
Any time she had to go to the bathroom she had to walk past me and would always slam the door. She had about 5,000 visitors at EVERY visiting session and I would get so mad b.c any time someone walked by they would push my curtain open and it was always when I was BFing DD, so there I sat boob just hanging out, call button out of reach BFing while strange people came and went, hoping one of my relatives would show up to help me cover myself up
I told DH I don't care if it costs an extra $500 a night I'm getting a private room from now on.
There is nothing worse then trying to rest & bond with your baby and feeling like you can do that because your room mate is preventing it.

Re: Hospital with private rooms!
I understand. I have this HUGE aversion to Non private rooms. I have panic attacks and all.
Good Sam has 2, but they are small. Half the seize of the Winthrop ones. But Im delivering there and pray I get one.
I heard Stony brook has all private rooms.

I did! I would NOT want a roomate for three days. No way! The guests, if they keep the baby in the room all night, etc. etc. My initial doctor delivered at Good Sam, but I didn't want to deliver there after I found out they don't have private rooms. I switched to a practice that delivered at Stony Brook which happened to be closer to me anyway

Re: Hospital with private rooms!
I'm not in LI but my hospital only has private rooms on the maternity ward - small but private. It's so worth it. If I had to pay extra for it I would!!!! Good luck.

Re: Hospital with private rooms!
I can't imagine sharing a room with someone...honestly, I guess I never realized they still put two patients in a room together.
Do you share a restroom too? I made such a mess in mine, I could not imagine someone having to use it after me.
