Re: Hospital with private rooms!
Posted by Janice
I can't imagine sharing a room with someone...honestly, I guess I never realized they still put two patients in a room together.
Do you share a restroom too? I made such a mess in mine, I could not imagine someone having to use it after me.
Actually at SB we did share a bathroom even though the rooms are private. That was totally skeevy!!
I had Nicholas in NC and the rooms were private with a private bath and you labored, delivered and roomed in the same room. It was great!

Re: Hospital with private rooms!
The thing is I don't want to stress out like last time.
It was all booked at Winthrop. So the 1st night I had to share a room with a roomate. She was a nightmare.
Luckily I got a private room for the rest of my stay but I want to make sure I have one next time.

Re: Hospital with private rooms!
My hospital room was almost 2 times the size of my bedroom...with a bathtub for the baby and a bed for Leo.
There is no way someone could have used the restroom after me...even my mother and Leo were using the one in the hallway...I bled so badly...all over...all the time...TMI

Re: Hospital with private rooms!
I loved the rooms at South Nassau in Oceanside- all private rooms with private bathrooms. It felt like a hotel. The nurses and doctors were really nice too!

Mercy has them but it is a first come fer serve basis and is extra a night. I am def requesting a private room. My roomate was a nightmare!! Talking about scary stuff and her SO kept closing the door and talking about things I shouldn't know.

At St Catherines you hardly have a choice. I brought Lysol spray with me and my roomate and I sprayed down the toilet & sink everytime we used the bathroom. You can go up to 4 girls in a room if there is a baby boom

Re: Hospital with private rooms!
Sophis I am in the same boat. I found out about the new hours literally the day I found out I was PG (I was having a procedure at Winthrop the day my friend had her DS.
I am trying to get a private room, but a bunch of us have called the hosipital admin & have wrote letters to ask the hospital to change the policy back. I am also going to see if we can get some action through the Drs....

I agree. I am shocked at this. Our hospitals here only have private rooms (even for non maternity) and they're so big and spacious and no extra charge. I think I would give birth at home before I shared a room.

Stonybrook only has private rooms. North Shore does too.

I might have to lobby too.
It's not just about the resting. But with the visiting hours I would be "forced" to expose DC to strangers in the same room. I could not get up right away after the c-section. So I would have to keep DC in the nursery most of the day. So how would I be able to BF DC, bond with him/her and heal myself? Sitting in an uncomfortable chair in the nursery for hours, in total pain so someone can visit a cousin at whatever time is convenient for them? Then spend the whole day/evening in the nursery to be with DC.
I find this policy VERY conflicting. All the peds we talked to told us not to exposed DC to strangers. And now in his/her 1st days he would spend HOURS with strangers in the same room.
With the old policy, there was a 2 hour window which was manageable. I BFd DS and got him back 2 hours later to BF again.
ETA: I think with such policies they should have private rooms. Not just the few they have.
