Always.

Granted, when I bought a new bike as an adult, I was riding in Manhattan so it seemed like suicide to not wear one. But even out here, I've kept the habit. They aren't bad. You basically want one that doesn't roll around on your head--if you wiggle your head around it should stay in place. And I recommend a light colored helmet, black gets hot.

Yes. I am a very cautious person by nature. Also, my daughter must wear one (by law, I think) so I don't want to get into the why-doesn't-Mommy-wear-a-helmet-but-I-do thing.

I ALWAYS wear a helmet. A cracked helmet is easier to handle than a head injury!! You would be surprised the amount of damage that can occur from a seemingly minor fall.
I like Giro helmets but you can go to any good bike shop and try a few different styles/brands on...generally the more $$$ the lighter the helmet.

When I was younger, no.

Now as an adult after hearing all the stories of head injuries people get from falling off bikes or being hit.... yes.

Also I have 2 small children that I want to set a good example for. They are wearing helmets from the moment they are able to get on a bike so it will be automatic for them. I want them to see me wearing one as well.

I was hit by a car on Rt 347 in Port Jeff like 10 years ago, they closed the whole road just for me at rush hour, I'm sure everyone wanted to kill me. No permanent damage – I was wearing a helmet.

And in that case, yes, it's NYS law that you wear a helmet when you ride.

I actually meant bicycle!!!!!! But funny thing was, when my sister was calling people and saying "Kara got hit by a car on her bike!" everyone thought she meant my motorcycle!

Yes. My DH made me buy it when we got our bikes, and now I'm grateful because I show my kids that mommy wears one too..

I think its the law (I haven't read the other posts obviously). But more so I busted my forehead open when I was a kid. Helmets make sense to me.

Yeah I've been riding for decades but loose gravel or any other million things and down you go.

Looks like I will be buying a helmet. I was leaning towards getting one anyway, but after hearing all these stories, it's a definite now.

Yes, always. So dangerous to ride without one.

Always. My helmet is a Giro. Pretty comfy as far as helmets go.

Always! On the roads, some drivers are pretty careless around bikers. On trails, it can be easy to get a flat or hit a bump wrong and fall. No reason not to wear one IMO.

I never used to.. until my kids got old enough to point out that I was a hypocrite for making them wear one. My excuse was that I was not riding fast, or not riding in high traffic areas.. but that's a shit excuse when you think about it.

My husband ALWAYS wears a helmet. Good thing when you consider the number of accidents and near misses he's had with his bicycle! And - of course - my kids aren't allowed on their bikes, scooters, big wheels, pogo sticks or even the giant hippity hop without head protection.

OMG yes! I have just one head!
Buy it and make sure they fit you for it.
I had a helmet and it had a little crack in the foam. Turns out that helmets are only good for a time - mine was like from 2001. It's printed on the inside of the helmet. They make strides in the safety part of it.
I bought a new one. Totally worth the $

i URGE everyone to wear one!

My DH (fiance at the time) was almost killed 2 months before our wedding after being hit by an SUV while riding his bicycle (in the 5 towns!) Wearing a helmet saved his life!

He "only" ended up with a few days in ICU, extensive road rash on both of his arms, stitches on his arms and face and 40 staples across his abdomen. He would have absolutely been dead had it not been for his helmet!
