My mother is 81 and suffers from depression and anxiety and mask wearing has attributed to her needing to up her medication. She also has Rosacea which is a skin condition and mask wearing makes her face breakout.
My children are being forced to wear them because the vaccine is not available to them and they also hate wearing them. it is uncomfortable to wear something for 6 to 7 hours a day like a muzzle. My children would come home with a completely soaked mask from sweat and their own saliva which to me was pointless having one on. It is also hard to understand the teachers with one on and fellow students, which in turn causes anxiety and depression on the younger generations.
My DH and I do not like them either for all of the above reasons and do not believe in the"science" behind them.
Well they must have been doing something because every school year strep, stomach virus, flu, coxsackie are all rampant. Last school year, none of that.
I send my kids with extra masks to change after lunch so they aren't wearing the same nasty one all day.
Exactly.
Furthermore, if masks didn't work to mitigate the spread of germs to some degree then doctors and nurses wouldn't be wearing them at all. I know that the times I've had surgery I appreciate the medical team being masked up instead of spewing their germs and spit all over me on the table while they work.
It's ridiculous to say, "masks don't work" because of course they do. Are they 100%? Absolutely not but it's ridiculous for anyone to argue that they offer no protection at all. There is a reason why they are standard protocol in the medical field, because they absolutely help to contain the spread of germs to some degree.
Then why do people who are wearing a mask care if Joe Schmoo next to them is not wearing one? Shouldn't their mask protect them regardless? You wouldn't be able to breath in anything through those homemade cotton masks right.
Good question, lets see if you get an answer
As it's been stated COUNTLESS times........... masks are not 100% but when BOTH people in close proximity to each other are wearing masks you're lessening the amount of germs being passed between the two. The viral load is not as great when two people are masked up over when just one or none are.
But how would you even know if someone had a mask on as hasn't it been stated here numerous times only MYSELF notices when people are masked?
You are masked and vaccinated. You should be fine. GIVE PEOPLE A CHOICE for themselves and their children.
What is it about a GLOBAL health crisis that you are incapable of understanding? This is not about individual choice. The more people that do the right thing, the sooner we will be done. People like you who refuse (I know, where did you say you refuse... ) are contributing to what is happening now
Weren't you one of them that wore a mask all the time? That stated your husband wore one in the office all the time, double masked on places but STILL got covid? I guess his mask just didn't work then?
It's been said COUNTLESS times masks are not 100% but there is NO doubt if we all ran around maskless for the last year transmission rates would have been higher. Nobody said masks were a guarantee you wouldn't get COVID.
Neither my DH or I EVER double masked, not even once. Either your note taking is off or you're making cr@p up as usual.
My bad then. Which makes it even worse then as obviously his mask did not work.
You are brain dead. Seriously.
Which means you KNOW the mask did not work OR your husband lied to you that he was wearing a mask around people.
Which is it since you keep claiming masks work?
Every comment you make further demonstrates that you're cognitively impaired. Poor thing, too bad you have zero self awareness.
Why can't you just admit masks do not always work?
You can't be serious with this comment, right???
I have said MULTIPLE times just on this thread alone that masks are NOT 100%. You have it in your head that those who wear masks believe it will protect them and everyone else around them from EVER getting COVID despite the fact that MULTIPLE posters have told you REPEATEDLY they don't believe masks are 100% effective.
Literally NOBODY on this forum has EVER claimed masks are 100% but yet you continue to repeat the same line of stupid questioning over and over and over and over again when it comes to masks. You have gotten your answer five hundred ways from Sunday, move on already.
ETA - Read above in this quote alone. I said TWICE that masks aren't 100%. You are seriously dense.

I thought everyone was just so tired of talking about covid and masks?
Does your boss know you are working from home and on LIF all.day.long?
I also get to do laundry, emptying out the dishwasher, cooking, cleaning, sitting outside, running errands.
I will be so jealous of myself when I have to be in an office all day as I not only get everything done in my home but I am SO much more productive at home then in the office. I actually have gotten accolades this last year sooo I guess I do more than just go on LIF

Mask wearing-why is it such a big deal?
It doesn’t bother me 99% of the time. The only time I hate it is in extreme heat while teaching. On those day, I’ve moved class outside in the shade so everyone can take off their masks. That was honestly 2-3 days last year so it wasn’t a huge deal.

I don’t feel like quoting one of the posts, but masks are like condoms. Obviously not 100% effective but people still use them to try to prevent having a baby. A mask isn’t 100%, they 80-90% effective!!

Mask wearing-why is it such a big deal?
Why? Because people are idiots.
I'm so sick of seeing people wearing them in the store covering their chin or covering their mouth and not their nose. I mean, seriously.

Exactly, why bother. It is like they don't want people to think they are not wearing a mask but then they are really NOT wearing a mask. lol

I’d be very careful what is said on a public forum especially when people are not as anonymous as they think. The name calling is starting to become childish especially for woman who have kids and are now acting like one

Are you just trying to prove to everyone here that you have ZERO reading comprehension skills??? Because, seriously, you can stop now - we are all very aware of that fact
I guess she feels special then she is in the mask failure group.
Your responses make no sense at all. Do you have anything that is actually worthwhile (factual) to ever contribute? Why don't you try that for a change?
You know you don't have to answer anything I, or anyone else posts.
I find it funny that people push the masks but they clearly didn't work for them and there were no spikes when people abandoned them in other states and here months ago.
Have you heard of a little thing called the Delta variant? "Months ago" has nothing to do with now.

Re: Mask wearing-why is it such a big deal?
I don’t see it as a big deal at all. Do I love it? No. But I have proof it works through my workplace. When myself, DH and his dad (his mom too but she isn’t at the shop) all got Covid, not one person at work got it. We all wear masks religiously there. Only those who were maskless (immediate family) got Covid.
Our full time groomer has been exposed 5 different times. All while wearing a mask and never got Covid.
I’m sure it’s not 100% (like birth control ) but it has definitely helped stop the spread through our small business when we had it. So we don’t have an issue wearing our masks.

Re: Mask wearing-why is it such a big deal?
Way too long to quote, but you don't just get sick from breathing. Cross contamination and touching commonly shared surfaces and then transmitting disease and illness is a HUGE part of how disease spreads. Imagine no one who works in a hospital washed their hands or wore surgical masks? Both of those things in combination work. I've been living life since the day we were allowed to. I've traveled on airplanes, been out of the Country, to Florida, all over the Northeast. I've vacationed with my kids, who I am ON about hand washing, I've been out to eat, I've been living. I've also been washing my hands wearing a mask when I should be. That's kept me safe thus far. I guarantee had I done ALL those things and didn't bother washing my hands, I would've ended up with Covid somewhere along the line.

But you never know as that is what you did but you don't know if someone else has done the exact same thing as yourself and wasn't as save and didn't get sick either.
I have a friend who insisted on not wearing a mask for medical reasons. I have never been out with him when he refused so I don't know how embarrasing it might have been. He has traveled, goes on the train to work, has never wore a mask. Never gotten sick as well as his family who the kids did wear masks where told to.
Everyone just assumes that if you don't wear a mask or wash your hands or socially distance you ABSOLUTELY WILL get covid. Just like if you are careful you won't get it.

I meant that people are idiots for not wearing a mask and/or not wearing correctly during a pandemic.

Why? Because people are idiots.
I'm so sick of seeing people wearing them in the store covering their chin or covering their mouth and not their nose. I mean, seriously.
Exactly, why bother. It is like they don't want people to think they are not wearing a mask but then they are really NOT wearing a mask. lol

Same argument can be used about condoms. Guess people should just roll the dice and hope they don’t get pregnant or wind up with disease because you know condoms are not 100% effective.

You can't reason with her, not worth your effort. Her friends sister's cousin's husband's brother's daughter in law's aunt wipes her butt with her hand every day, doesn't wash her hands and never wore a mask so OBVIOUSLY masks are a big hoax and the media has scared us all into believing we should mask ourselves and children. She knows it to be true.

Mask wearing-why is it such a big deal?
Drugstore masks don’t work. Home made masks don’t work. And guess why this “variant” is so contagious ….because we have killed our immune systems with all this mask wearing!

The virus is more virulent and mutating into more dangerous variants because too many are unvaccinated making the population weaker and more susceptible to the virus. The more people that are vaccinated the stronger the immunity to the virus and the less likely we see variants. A virus is only as strong as its host is weak.
To add, we haven't "killed our immune systems" by wearing a mask.
Plus, you just said the masks don't work. If they aren't doing anything how can they also be weakening our immune systems? That would imply they do in fact work and are blocking any and all germs we come in contact with thereby making us weak and more susceptible to illness. You're contradicting yourself, the comment makes no sense.

Yeah, that’s not how the immune system works.
And N95s (FFP2s) are quite effective and sold in drug stores (well, at least here).

Yes N95 is effective. I’ve never seen one in a drugstore??
But these cheap masks don’t stop the spread. So many mask wearing friends have gotten covid. While us “tin foil hat”, selfish, anti-vax, living pre 2020 life, anti-maskers are still standing Covid free or had the Covid sniffle. So masks mean nothing. Wash your hands and stay home when your sick. Basic kindergarten hygiene and common sense.
And people who work In hospitals and have always worn masks so they must do something….have you ever been in a hospital? Have you seen all the sterilization? The hand washing procedure? I’ve never seen a doctor or nurse come in while they were sick. Guarantee if we continue to disinfect schools, encourage more frequent hand washing, and keep kids home from school when sick….there will be no outbreaks.
