Moms of young toddlers - how are they handling the tree?
Cailen got a little crazy when the tree 1st arrived, and we all were putting on the ornaments. Understandably, he was excited and wanted to hold and play with the fragile ornaments. After one good tanrum, he "got" it.
Now, he is amazing. He looooooves the tree, but he never touches it!!!!
He says hi to it every morning and bye every night.
Every evening, after dinner, I hold him by the tree, and he labels all of his favorite ornaments, and asks "What is that?" for some of the others. It's so cute!!!
I mentioned the tree to someone, and he overheard, and said his first real sentence - "We got a tree!!!" Cailen never spoke more than 2-3 words together!
Was wondering how the other little guys are liking their trees so far!

DD also waves to the tree hello and buh bye. But, our tree looks very funny this year. There are no glass balls at all on the bottom three feet of the tree. Needless to say, it's very bare down there.

G was very curious when we first got it, but now he looks but does not touch. He is funny about it though b/c he will go right up to it and say "no touch" and walk away...like he is reminding us (or himself). He says "ooh tree" whenever he sees it. It is pretty funny.

He was touching it the first day, but now, since I put presents in front of it, he doesn't go near it.
But we've also been busy and haven't put on the lights either

He says that every morning when we come downstairs - I think he forgets it is there!

NOT good - which is why we have a play yard around it for now. She thinks the ornaments are toys and kept trying to rip them off the tree so I didn't want to wait for a problem and just put up the gate.

Re: Moms of young toddlers - how are they handling the tree?
She looks at it and says "Ho Ho!"
She loves the balls because they kind of jingle when she hits them and I have some on there she likes to scrape her teeth on
Merry Christmas!
But for the most part she does leave them alone, thank god. I think they're just too tempting for her to NOT touch at some point during the day.

I was afraid Cailen would be that way because everytime he saw the round ornaments in stores, he would say "Ball!!!! Ball!!!!"

Re: Moms of young toddlers - how are they handling the tree?
DD is fascinated and continually tries to touch everything. I expected this so this year all the Lenox and hand blown glass ornaments stayed packed away. All the other breakable ornaments are above arms reach.

Re: Moms of young toddlers - how are they handling the tree?
Jaidy keeps rearranging my ornaments. I have these fabric snowflakes and I keep finding them all piled up in one part of the tree She also takes the ornaments and pulls them till they come apart from the top part and then brings me both like she is helping me

Re: Moms of young toddlers - how are they handling the tree?
DD leaves it alone, thankfully. We keep it on during the day when we're home, and she'll randomly say "tree off" and she wants the lights shut off Then a few minutes later, I'll put them back on, and she's fine with it.

Re: Moms of young toddlers - how are they handling the tree?
We were scrooge parents and didn't put up a tree, so I can't say! Everything, I mean every little thing goes in his mouth, and I really didn't think there was anyway we would avoid a choking incident this season.
Next year we will have a tree! He likes all the other Christmas stuff we have out though.

Re: Moms of young toddlers - how are they handling the tree?
Last year, DD was great. She would go up to it, but never touched it. This year she's all over it. But I expected that, so I bought all shatterproof ornaments, which I learned aren't completely safe b/c of of the metal pins in them. And our tree is tethered to 2 walls!

Re: Moms of young toddlers - how are they handling the tree?
DD loves the tree but she does touch it. We have her kiddie ornaments where she can reach and all of the fragile items are out of her reach. Once in a while she will pull an ornament off the tree but it's no big deal. She puts it back.

Re: Moms of young toddlers - how are they handling the tree?
Honestly he leaves the tree alone. He touched the tree skirt like 2 times when I first set it up but told him no and staying away from it and he won't touch it.
I also put in up on a side table because of my dogs. AND it's the corner of the room with the sofa on one side and the armchair on the other.

Re: Moms of young toddlers - how are they handling the tree?
Pretty good but then again our tree is in the living room and we really live in the den.
I didn't put any fragile ornaments on it this year, just in case. Most of the ornaments are "their" ornaments... their hand prints from last year , two Noah's Ark's, etc., a pg mommy.
DS's latest thing is pointing to everything and saying, "I like it!!"... EVERYTHING so he does this with the ornaments as well.
We have a ritual when we get home, we take off our coats and they take turns turning on the tree. DS always wants to do it "again", see the lights go on and off... disco tree.

Re: Moms of young toddlers - how are they handling the tree?
We put it up 2 weekends ago. At first she barely even looked at it. Today she started touching every ornament on the bottom.

Re: Moms of young toddlers - how are they handling the tree?
He won't keep his hands off it!
One of his sisters was kind enough to give him a glass ornament that I hung out of his reach. He looked at me st yelled, "Mommy, ball!". Then he threw it, and I had shattered ornament everywhere
