My $0.2 on taking NBs in public places

I am starting to read the word "ridiculous" when it comes to not take your NB in restaurants, malls or indoor places before 8 weeks.

Please ladies, be mindful of mommies like me and others who DID wait or mommies whose child had a spinal tap.

I am not crazy or ridiculous. We talked to multiple peds, nurses in the hospital. Talks to other moms.

We all know the risks. We all make an informed decision.

Do I think the lady in Leslie's story was making an inappropriate comment. Yes, it was none of her business.

But please don't tell me about cabin fever. That's about YOU, not your child.

I NEVER stayed home with DS. We went for walks everyday. We went to my old job corporate picnic. We went to friends BBQ. Just nothing indoors.

In the end, we all decide what works best for our family but there is no need to turn to the word "ridiculous".

Because that word can be used both ways and there is no need to go that route.

I read that thread and I think the girls were saying it was ridiculous that the woman went up to Leslie. Not that keeping the babies home was ridiculous. That was my take on it!

But, I do agree- your child - you do what you want! It's no one's business! Chat Icon

I just read the other thread. I don't think that is what they were saying at all. I think the people who used the word "ridiculous" were refering to the ladies comments, not that it is "ridiculous" not to bring a NB out.

Maybe I am wrong but I didn't take it that way.

If it matters, I waited to take my son into public places until he was about 3 months old.

Re: My $0.2 on taking NBs in public places

I agree. As teh mom of a preemie, we did not take our DD out until the 3 month rule.

we went to family events, but we made sure eveyone who held her washed their hands.

I would not ahve taken her to a restaurant at 6 weeks old, but that is me. And I would have kept my opinions to myself if I see/saw a baby that young out.

EXACTLY!

I am on the otehr side ....I took Noah out and he has been sick only 2 times in 15 months...but I 100% understand why parents wouldnt. I dont think its right to say whats right when its a personal parental decision.

I haven't yet read the other thread but people have bashed me because I didn't do many 'indoor' things with DD when she was born. She was called a "late term preemie" and it was almost RSV and flu season so I listened to my doctor's warnings to keep people out of her face and away from children.

Re: My $0.2 on taking NBs in public places

This could go for anything.......why should I say what another parent chooses to do with their child is rediculous!?!?!?! Do I agree with the parents who bring their cranky little ones out to the restaurant I work in at 10/11 o'clock, no, personally I don't b/c my child is in bed by 8:30, but its none of my business. If it works for them then so be it. I always though girls were so hard on each other, that was HS, but it seems we continue to do it even in adulthood and motherhood. I say we b/c I know I am guilty of it too, but I really make every effort not to judge people. I have no right to judge, I haven't walked in any shoes, but my own.

Re: My $0.2 on taking NBs in public places

The people who were using the word ridiculous WERE referring to the lady who said something about having her baby out, not about taking a baby out or not.

ITA - I only go for walks my NB. I'm trying to stay away from indoor stores until 12 wks. My DH and I take turns sitting in the car with DC if we go out to stores as a family.

I took it the same way.

In my mind, it's a chance you either take or don't take. It's the same way I feel about vaccinations. Every time my children get/got shots, it crossed my mind that they could be the 1 in 1000 cases.

Maddie has a spinal tap at 2 weeks old so I may feel more strongly about it than others. However, she got sick from her brother, not from being out of the house.

Your family, your call. People are going to judge based on what works for them & their family. The ridiculous part is the unsolicited comments.

I think the lady going up to Leslie was ridiculous.
I don't think taking your child out before 8 weeks is ridiculous.

My DS was born in Jan.
It was MY choice to stay in. I talked to my ped. and he said "If it's above 40 degrees, bundle him, take him out" and I did on walks.
I would take him to my parents house.
I finally took him to public places around the 8 week mark.

I am sorry if I misunderstood how the word ridiculous was used.

I guess I am really tired of the competition I see sometimes.

Thats' why I posted that maybe I misunderstood the comment. I do feel some people had a "condescending" tone though.

Anyway, I have my own beliefs but would never come to a mom with a NB in a store and tell her what the heck she is in Target for.

I haven't been on all morning so maybe I read the wrong post that you're referring to. Chat Icon

But anyway, I agree, I would never tell another mother what to do. I can't believe some of the stories on here of what people come up to moms and say to them!!!
