Maybe the best way to combat crazy is with a little of your own.
I agree.
It sounds like she continues to harrass you because she knows it is rattling you. Fight back and let her know you will not tolerate being verbally abused in your own yard, and she is going to have a MAJOR problem on her hands if she wants to continue this childish BS.

I would love to get all crazy on her, but I can't - not with my DS in the picture. I have to put him first. I don't want to anger her any more.
DH thinks that if she's smart, she'll lay low for a while, it will surely get back to someone in the elderly woman's family that the cops were there.

Me too. Maybe someone here can help you find her family? Who is handling her estate? Someone had to have hired this person as I doubt she did herself.

Sometimes the best thing for our kids is to get all mama bear on the world.
Does your town have a local paper that published police blotter? Maybe neighbors or family will see police needed to be called in
