How else will we know if these vaccines are actually working if we don’t test them out by lowering the mandates?
Personally, I’ll be in a mask around anyone I don’t know in large groups whether they mandate it or not (just my own personal feeling) but we have to put these vaccines to the test and be around each other again - a little bit at a time
I agree. I keep looking at Florida and what's going on down there they are doing ok.

Re: No more masks for vaccinated people..... Indoors and outdoors
I have no idea how this will be implemented but I think it's exciting news that we are continually moving towards our "old normal". This is why we all made the necessary accommodations early on, this is why most of us are getting vaccinated...........all so life can be normal again. As we move forward with life restarting everyone will always have the option to continue to take the precautions that are best for them.
For myself, I'm being psyched that indoor mask mandates will go away. I miss breathing freely and seeing people smile. I'm excited that other mandates are going away and that Broadway is reopening in a few months. It's all such good news. I'm thankful that the medical community was able to quickly get us a vaccine so we could be at this point. I feel like there is so much to look forward to again.

The governor of Maryland said once 70% of adults are fully vaccinated, he will fully lift all mask mandates. My guess is the tri state area will do something similar...we are at 60% here in NY so it shouldn't be too much longer until we hit that.
50.7 1 dose 40.8 fully vaccinated This was as of yesterday
I said % of adults, not the whole population. Ny is 61% of adults vaccinated as of this morning.
Do you have a link as I don’t find it that high?
Go to ny.gov and click on news and then find the link with the vaccine number updates. I can never link properly on here. My mistake, it's 61% of adults with at least one dose but that means we are still well on our way to 70% fully vaccinated.
Correct 1 dose is 60.9, full 50.4
But so many issues with using that number. how many of those 60% will not get a booster or vaccinated next year? So come January and vaccines wear off and let’s say 20% don’t get it again...then what? It’s just time to open up. If you want to be vaccinated you can at this point. People are walking around with mesh masks at this point, it’s silly
Exactly I bet the numbers will drop after these first doses.
And then we may face another shut down and hospitals being overrun once again. The more people that get vaccinated and the more people that get boosters (if necessary), the better chance we ALL have of avoiding that happening. It's not rocket science.
And as far as "choice" to wear a mask or not (prior to today's announcement) - this is a major public health crisis. Your choices affect other people, not just you (the general you who choose not to wear a mask). This is way different than "my body, my choice" (as I've seen posted on other threads). Your choice affects everyone around you. And IF hospitals become overrun again, (which is one of the main reasons the government had to get this under control), your quality of life can be significantly in danger. People seem to forget that that was really one of the reasons for all the shut downs, masks etc. The danger to the public in general when hospitals face a crisis of that magnitude is truly horrendous.
Once again if you are worried, wear a mask forever and stay home.
That's your response to everything. I don't think you have any idea how selfish you sound. People DIED. They f'ing DIED. Hospitals were completely overrun, someone on this site is very open about her PTSD after working in a hospital. She intubated a 6 month old who had covid, you know, the age group that never gets sick? She is a hero who never got to stay home and safe. Someone else on here has cancer and is terrified. But, yes, as long as YOU can do whatever the hell you want as you stand there with your MAGA hat and scream "muh rights" as people truly suffer and you whine and complain about missing being in a crowd at football games. What will you do when you realize you are not the center of the universe? Other people matter too. Not just you and your family. I actually don't believe you should be forced to take the vaccine, i agree with you. But the mask...get over yourself. It's a piece of cloth. Put on your big girl panties and for one day of your life, think of something beyond what you want. Life isn't about having a choice in everything and doing whatever the hell you want. Sometimes, you have to do things you don't like. Your parents should have taught you that when you were 5. Nobody wants to stay home forever. I'm out and about all the time, I don't get where you get this idea that people are locked up at home anymore. You're just a self centered human being and nothing will ever change that.
You obviously don’t know me IRL and make assumptions from me saying you do you. That is all we can do in life. If you truly believe that people should have a vaccine, then you should be on board with people having a choice when it comes to masked or not masked and not by vaccination status. If someone wants to mask up forever, then go for it. Even the ones that walk and ride past my house everyday. People will get sick if not this something else. Hospitals were overrun as no one knew about this and how to take care of it. Now it is much better as people are staying home when they are sick and getting better in their own. Unfortunately people will die as our immune systems are all different and all we can do is take care of ourselves the best we can.

As someone that medically can't get the vaccine, this terrifies me. My oncologist won't allow me to get it until another month and now people are going to be walking around with no masks - including people that don't want to get vaccinated and hated being forced to wear them.
Have you been near no one for over a year now without a mask?
You can still wear one as I think it should be an option and if you feel uncomfortable then you should continue doing what you have been doing.
I've only been around my vaccinated boyfriend and his kids this entire time. Since I'm immunocompromised, I've been double masking since September but that doesn't stop people from spreading it to me. At least previously I've felt mostly ok going to the grocery store when everyone is masked, so I hope that the stores continue to require masks so I can not worry about it as much until I can get vaccinated.
If I understand correctly, vaccinated people don't need to wear masks because it has been shown that they can't spread the virus, if they do happen to pick it up.
So, even unmasked, being vaccinated does help protect people like you. I understnad though, I woudln't entriely trust that everyone maskless is vaccianted. I think stores will mandate it for a little longer, so hopefully you will be good untill you are ellible.
Or just make your BF run all your errands for you.
Doesn’t seem true for the 8 fully vaccinated baseball players who just got sick.
It’s ok if vaccinated people infect each other. LOL common sense is gone. Let them walk around maskless feeling safe and let them get their world rocked when they get Covid. Stop shaming us who don’t get vaccinated....you are just as big of a spreader as we are. OPEN UP. wear a mask if you want.

False security (that I incorrectly called placebo). No one truly knows because, once again, this has not been tested long enough yet.

No more masks for vaccinated people..... Indoors and outdoors
I’m still in favor of masks. I’ll continue to wear one in populated settings and in school if need be. People are gross. People still sneeze and cough without covering their mouths and noses. I’ll continue to wear them to the doctor’s office out on a train. I’ll encourage my children to wear them when they have the sniffles. I’m vaccinated but I’m still cautious.

Re: No more masks for vaccinated people..... Indoors and outdoors
I never got sick before Covid maskless. Even during cold and flu season. Even on a crowded LIRR train that sounded like a tuberculosis ward with the coughing in December. Even when everyone else in my crowded office was sick. I think the last time I was sick was 2013. No joke. Good immune system I guess? It would amaze me the crowds at City MD every single day when I passed in the winter so apparently that's a rare thing though I'm actually hoping it's still as good once we get rid of these masks.

Same here. I’m hoping I’m not jinxing myself but I rarely get sick and I have literally never gotten the flu and never gotten the flu shot (shocker!).

Really?! No colds? I wish. I get 1-2 colds a year generally and as I’ve gotten older, they knock me out for days. Sometimes it’ll morph into a sinus infection.

No colds either to be honest. However, I used to be sick a lot more. I used to get colds like you describe that would knock me out for days and I'd feel like utter crap. I finally started taking IP6 as a supplement and it really was a game changer. Since then, I haven't been sick at all really.

You can’t compare this to that time. That’s pretty insulting, tbh.
And for those complaining about having to show proof, well, that really shouldn’t be a problem because everyone has IDs and you should show one to vote anyway, so why do you even care?

Yes. Logistically they can't be asking you to prove your vaccinated every single place you go to determine who has to wear a mask. That is why all mask mandates are still in place. However I see people all over social media saying oh thank God I don't have to wear a mask anymore! Taking this CDC announcement as law. There are so many misinformed people out there who don't read and just liok at a headline so things like this cause widespread confusion That announcement yesterday changed nothing today. At least here in NY. It will be up to the governor to lift any mask mandates...vaccinated or not.... "papers " or not....and even then, just like in Texas it will be further up to individual businesses on whether or not they require masks

This is one of the most offensive things I've ever seen on this site. The long term goals of this situation vs what you're referring to are completely opposite.
You want to compare it to something, compare it to needing to carry a driver's license to operate a vehicle. You need a license bc getting behind the wheel of a car without a license can affect the health of people around you.

Considering at least one person on this board already admitted they will lie about their vaccine status, you’re absolutely right. It’s sad.

Enough with all the negativity already. For a year you bitched about having to wear a mask. Now news that masks are starting to go away (even if only for some right now) and you’re still arguing. What is it that you want???? Could you post something that is not negative or argumentative for once? (Rhetorical question - I know the answer)
