It's funny but when I read what you just wrote about "gambling" it reminded me of the thread last week week where people were talking about eating sushi, eating cold cuts, etc while pregnant. And it was said that listeria can happen at any time- even if you eat coldcuts in moderation- and eating them was a "gamble" with your unborn baby's health. It just seems ironic that people will not eat coldcuts, sushi, drink alcohol etc while pregnant but then take a gamble with a deadly disease after the baby is born by not vaccinating.
See I always think it is funny that people freak about eating cold cuts but don't even so much as flinch when they inject their babies with formaldehyde, and chick embryo.
Well I didn't freak out abuot eating coldcuts, drinking wine, drinking coffee or eating anything while pregnant- nor do I freak out about vaccines or non- organic food now that she is here. So at least I am consistant!

I agree with this. I do not like the idea of injecting my child with anything. But then I think about all of the potential things that can happen to them if I DON'T vaccinate them. However, I feel I I feel badly for the children getting sick with these illnesses that were almost eradicated and are so serious.

Re: Not vaccinating your child and daycare/public school
Best of luck to them. Its their fight to do what they want with their own children. I wish them well. Too much is taken away from us as parents that it scares me how TPTB "Big Brother" tells is right/wrong and must or must not be done.
I vaccinate
I hate that they have made it nearly impossible for me to do so at my own timing. I follow CDC with in the recommended ranges. But I have to fight each and every time. I think TPTB and the medical community need to let parents make choices. The schools systems and generally the public need to respect those wishes whatever they may be.
Again, I do vaccinate
But I feel as if its a propoganda machine that pushes us to feed the Pharmaceutical and Insurance companies. I think we are doing ourselves no favors by vaccinating so young. We have instead made super bugs.
JMHO
For me, we can NOT get AJ into a private or public school without vaccinations. Just not feasible. Religious or otherwise, we'd need an act of congress to get let in. Seems they make it nearly impossible to have a normal childhood if you aren't vaccinated. That (to me) seems unfair..
ETA: of course if I was rich it wouldn't be that hard. ha!

would you put your child through chemo if he had cancer? do you know what makes up chemo drugs and what it does to your system? I have a feeling you will say yes because it could save his life. vaccines SAVE lives too. we do what we have to do.

Re: Not vaccinating your child and daycare/public school
I think we can all agree that we don't love the idea of vaccinating our children, I cringe everytime DD gets a shot. I watch her like a hawk for days afterwards to look for signs of a reaction, she did develop a slight rash after the MMR. HOWEVER, the other option, of exposing my child to dangerous and deadly diseases does not seem like common sense to me...

I vaccinate my DS on a delayed schedule with the exception of 3 vaccines that I do not give. I actually wasn't trying to be snarky towards nervous nell or start drama, simply stating what I find funny in contrast to what NN said.
I am well educated on the topic, I am secure in my decision when it comes to my DS health, I hope that everyone who chooses to vaccinate or not feels confident in their decision.

there is SO much out there that he/she will be susceptible to. IMO, the good from vaccines outweighs the bad but I guess that is why it is an opinion.
my SIL's brother has not vaccinated his 7 month old and I feel like the decision is a ticking time bomb.
I know. Very scary especially when you hear measles making a comeback, whoping cough, etc. This is why I make sure she gets all her shots on time- because more and more people are NOT vaccinating and GOD knows what she can pick up if the schools are just going to let every unvaccinated kid in under the guise of "religious beliefs". Disturbing.
Whats even scarier is all the people that go to the university of Google to get the info against vaccination. Whaever their choices are, to get info from crappy websites, shotty science, and fake doctors scares the heck out of me.
(And I'm not saying ALL people who are anti vax are all like that. But most people on the "bandwagon" are).

Re: Not vaccinating your child and daycare/public school
I am just very surprised at my brother. He watched his neice(my DD) get rotovirus and be hospitalized. She was like a little rag doll. Too weak to even move. It was awful!!!! They didn't have the rotovirus vaccine when my 10yr old was little. Then when she was 8 she got Pertussis(whooping cough) which although is not super terrible for an 8yr old, was even harder on her because she has RAD(reactive airway disorder) She had the most wicked cough. She could not catch her breath, it was terrible. If she would have given it to an infant or an elderly person, it could be deadly to them. She WAS vaccinated against it when she was small but because of the number of immigrants coming into the country unvaccinated and people chosing not to vaccinate, it is making a comeback. They are now saying that you need a pertussis booster between the ages of 7-10 because of it.

Re: Not vaccinating your child and daycare/public school
Just wanted to add that we got a notice from day care the other day that DS may have been exposed to whooping cough. They don't say if it's a child or adult that had it. I wasn't too worried because he is 22 months and has had all is vaccines on schedule. When he was younger and didn't have all his vaccines that would have scared the crap out of me. If people vaccinated their children we wouldn't keep hearing about this.

What about the fraudulent researchers that work for the CDC. You can't trust them either and Drs aren't Experts, they are PRACTICING DRs. You need to do all your research and be your own advocate. You can still get the disease if your vaccinated so it's not 100% full proof.
NY State is the toughest state when it comes to filing and actually getting a religious exemption.

I can't say what my sister would or would not do because she isn't in the situation & who really knows but I don't think she would.
She thinks the idea of chemo is backward. Killing cells in the hopes of getting the cancer cells to die out. There are plenty of people that believe that chemo will weaken your immune system so badly & make you more susceptible to it spreading. I heard this countless times as my friend was dying of liver cancer.

I have also been trying to vaccinate DD on an alternate schedule. Just curious, which vaccines are you not planning to give? It seems that most people just follow the CDC schedule and recommendations, so it's nice to hear of other parents that are kind of in the same boat as us.

I actually miscounted it is 4 I do not give. They are the Rotavirus, Hep B, Hep A and chicken pox. I spread out and delay all other vaccines, except for pertussis vaccine. I gave that on time, especially since there was an outbreak where I lived when DS was an infant.
Feel free to FM. I will go over my schedule or answer any questions you have.
