sorry you had a horrible appointment, Sandra!
I was told to do kick counts a few weeks ago ... i've been donig them half-a$$ed. When i feel one kick, that's when i start (not at a certain time each day). At first, i was doing them twice a day (Dr told me to do them 3 times per day) ... now i prob do them once a day, if that. Whatever, it's fine! I'd know if something was wrong!
sorry to hear about your appt Sandra. i am so tired of the long wait at every appt (hospital and reg doc). it never takes less than 2 hours

Went to the dr for my 37 week visit. I'm a fingertip dilated although I don't exactly know what that means At my sono last week, he was 5lbs 15 oz. Also found out that I have strep B. If anyone has any experience with this would love to have more info.
I had strep B with my daughter. No big deal at all, and very common (which is why the test everyone for it!). They just make sure to give you an antibiotic before labor so that you don't pass it to the baby.

Re: ***Official OCTOBER 2012 Mommy to be thread!!****
Hey ladies! Glad to hear we are all doing more or less well. Still having back pain but it's not so bad. Luckily I had massage gift certificates from valentines day that I'm using now. It's helping alot.
Saw the OB and baby girl is measuring about 6 lbs 13 oz. about the 48th percentile. Even though I'm 37 weeks he said there was no need to check me because I looked to good and dilation hurts. Darn. I think I'm in this for the long haul.
I'm also kind of bummed because I am on a medication that isn't really compatible for breastfeeding. Even though I'm on it now, I just wouldn't feel right to continue taking it while breastfeeding. I just really wanted to BF but I guess mommy has to be happy and healthy too.

I'm in a similar situation. While I'm not on the medication right now (and suffering because of it), I will be going right back on it once I give birth. I've had many an internal battle with this, as I BFed my first DD and really believe in its benefits over formula feeding. That said, I know I can't live like this (in terrible pain w/o the medication), and it's likely much better for my baby (and my older DD) to have a mom that can function normally. It just really sucks.

35w 5 days today.... second internal exam...... I'm now 1-2cm dialated!! dr said it doesn't necessarily mean I'll go in the next week though......
cramping hurts more & longer now. GD is worse so I have to add half a pill to the morning to help my PM numbers, and I'm spilling Keytones - they think I'm not eating enough carbs, and not drinking enough water--- and I'm doing sooooooooo much of both.

Re: ***Official OCTOBER 2012 Mommy to be thread!!****
Sorry you had a frustrating appointment, Sandra! Something similar happened to me last week and it was so annoying.
So I had another sono today and my amniotic fluid, which was very low last week, has gone up a good amount to just within normal range. So it seems like resting and drinking tons of water worked. So now I have to keep taking it easy, but I don't have to be on total bed rest any more, which is a relief, both for me and DH who had to do all the housework/cooking/cleaning/food shopping over the weekend on top of working. He's still going to continue to do the heavier stuff, like vacuuming for now, but at least I can go back to cooking simple meals and stuff like that so it doesn't all have to fall on him.
My little girl is still breech, and I'll have to decide very soon if I want to try an external version. But I think I'm leaning towards not doing that. I plan to try some at home natural techniques, and hope for the best. If she doesn't flip by 38 weeks, they will schedule a csection date for me.
So I hope everyone else is doing well. We're really at the end now! Less than a month for some of us!

Sandra! Sorry to hear it didn't go so well.
I went to my appt today too. Stress testing and my last (?) sonogram. Got to see a 4D pic of LO. So cool!
She's already at 6 lbs 12 oz....

Re: ***Official OCTOBER 2012 Mommy to be thread!!****
Had an appointment earlier today (36w+2d) - they did the strep b test and it was really nothing. I was soooo nervous about them swabbing my bum (lol) but it really was just on the outside
Then they did an internal which also did not hurt - it just felt like pressure. No progress yet though. On one hand, i'm a bit disappointed ... but on the other, i'm kinda happy to have more time to prepare for Baby
Oh, and I got my flu shot while i was there. I've never gotten it in my life so i'm a bit nervous about any reaction i might have but so far, so good.
This morning, i spent about two hours and i-dont-even-wanna-know-how-much money shopping for last minute necessities (diapers, ointments, nail clippers, etc). I also bought this onesie - i just couldn't resist

Cute onesie, Mrs. Rapz! I've been finding it hard to resist shopping for my LO too. All baby clothes are just so cute! But I'm trying to hold off to see how big she is and how much we really end up needing in addition to what we got as gifts. We have bought a few things though that we just couldn't resist.
So now that we're all getting so close to our due dates is anyone else getting more nervous about delivery? Of course I knew all along that the baby would be coming out one way or another, but today I was ready about csection recovery and I started panicking. All along I've been hoping for a natural birth and now that in most likely facing a csection I'm so scared! Mostly of what it's going to be like dealing with the pain while taking care of a newborn. I'm just hoping for the best! Even recovery from a vaginal delivery sounds like it can be rough too so either way I'm scared!

Somehow you get through it. No matter how your little one makes it to the outside, you recover!!!
I had a drugs-free vbirth with an episiotomy and two second-degree tears (upwards in a V shape) with DD 20 months ago and bled for around 6 weeks PP as well as ended up with a crazy wicked itchy rash all over PP (mostly chest and arms) and had so much blood loss at birth I never produced milk (they think it had to do with PCOS and my hormones, though, more than the blood loss) and yet still look back at my first L&D as a very good experience! "Mommy amnesia" which takes away the blunt of the pain you experience in your memories of the event (but not the vivid reality of the birth) is REAL and helps so much. Keep that in mind while you're having contractions (although if you end up with a scheduled C, you won't even have to worry about that!).
I'm more worried about then "when" than anything else. And who will stay with DD and how long it will take. I want him to come out and join us, but I already miss my daughter and she's just upstairs trying to fall asleep right now. I'm such a nut.

Re: ***Official OCTOBER 2012 Mommy to be thread!!****
Hey girls, almost 37 weeks and doing pretty good. GD is under control for the most part and belly measures normal and they HAVE NOT OFFERED to do a growth sono to check the baby's size…which is odd to me! They keep saying no because I measure normal in the belly. Umm I feel like that means jack crap. My good friend measured normal in her belly and still had a 9lber! I wonder why they are so stingy, ugh.
So i def think the baby dropped a bit, I feel more pressure but not terrible pressure. The muscles or bones between my legs are very sore. Does anyone have that? But otherwise I feel ok. Getting comfy at night is hard but I am still getting good amounts of sleep and only pee 1x a night. I feel a lil lucky bc I know some people pee like 10x a night!
But anyway for reflux I sware by Priolsec. I have been on it forever and I cannot miss one day or I suffer big time. Take it in the a.m. with a big glass of water about 1 hr before you eat. It may take a few days to really kick in but take it every day. Zantac did not work for me at all (tried it for a week).
Also Sandra, my dr office drives me batty with wait times. I was there almost 2 hours for a what was supposed to be a 20 min appt, I cried when I left! All the other times are hit or miss. I have to go 2x a week for the NST's and some days I am in and out in 30 min and some days I am there over an hour. ARGH. I started to just get over it because at least I get to go to work late! It is just frusturating to sit there and wait, wait, wait!
Ok wish me luck tomorrow at my 37 week appt and 2nd internal! Last time they said "I may be a tiny bit dilated and halfway effaced" He said that the baby was still high though. That was at 35 weeks so I am hoping within 2 weeks we have had a lil progress! But not too much progress bc DH has his last work trip soon!

Sometimes I feel like is quite low, but I'm still carrying high. I've noticed my legs get very sore especially inbetween. Sometimes getting comfy for sleep takes a long time but luckily I've been going to bed so early usually I'm asleep before DH comes to bed.
I still love feeling her move, hiccups are my favorite. Even so, I can't wait to meet her and hold her!!!

Congrats on the house, MrsRapz! Love the onsie too.
LiveItUp, glad to hear you're feeling better!
Puppy-love and Mel, I am having the same pain between my legs. Almost feels as though my legs may give out sometimes.
I give you girls who are still working so much credit! I can barely move from the couch to the bathroom these days with the back pain I have.
My first internal was yesterday. 1 cm dilated. 2 weeks and 2 days until my due date. I am torn between being absolutely terrified about going into labor and being really really anxious for it to just get here already!
Feel good everybody!
Oh, and DH just installed the carseat this past weekend, so I was 37 weeks. It wasn't as hard to do as the manual made it look like it'd be! Good luck!

Hi ladies! All is well over here - but I am SO done with work.
I'm a teacher, and being on my feet all day and not being able to go to the bathroom, eat, test (my blood for GD), and commuting is KILLING me. Did I mention my ankles are unREAL at the end of the day? Not to mention I now go for stress-tests 2x week and have to either leave work early or come in late to do them.... (Am I complainging too much!?)
When did you stop working? I'm at 36 weeks and I'm talking to my doctor today about getting a note. I just can't keep going. I feel like I'm burning at both ends.
I am a teacher as well, and I am hoping to work until the end. Some days it sucks, but I don't want to sit at home all day waiting for to arrive either. And I want to get paid for as long as possible. So I am hoping to stick it out for a couple more weeks at least. Hope your dr writes you a note today
OK, I lied, lol. Driving the past 2 days (an hour each way) has been excruciating. I am going to ask my dr. if he will put me on disability at the end of next week. I am annoyed to lose a paycheck, but my back seriously can't take the driving.

I had to go back to the midwife again today. I have a clogged duct!!! I'm just glad it's not mastitis. But boy is it painful! Usually you get it PP and the solution is lots and lots of nursing. But while pregnant, extra stimulation can cause contractions and too much production... so the only way to help is keeping heat on it.
Always an adventure...

Does it feel like you're being stabbed with a dagger? I definitely get that!
I think it's the relaxin making your pelvis do weird things and move in unusual ways so it can make that happen.

You don't feel tearing while it happens. There's something called the "ring of fire" which is a burning sensation you get in the opening right when the baby is crowning and about to come out and think of it this way: if you stretch your mouth out really far and pull at your lips skin there, it gets taught and starts to get numb from the tension so you don't really feel it. It's the same thing with the other lips down below. So if you get cut or if you tear, you don't actually feel it because your skin is stretched in a way that it's numb.
My OB had to cut me and I ended up tearing (we tried so hard to avoid the cut, too, which I think might be why I tore because we waited a little too long to choose to cut) but I didn't feel either. I did feel him stitch me back up, but he used local anesthetic which did help with the re-stitching pain and that was it. While he was stitching me back up, I was watching them clean off my daughter and weigh her and my husband hold her for the first time and then I was holding her for the first time. So as annoying as it all was, it's so meaningless when you look back.
