ouch..I was just going to ask for the address as we have a ton of leftover 1st b-day party goods. But it really looks like she gets people to send her clothes and then shes turning right around and selling them. I wonder how many other heart strings she's pulled. How many other Beth's with amazing intentions that just mailed her a $20. People make me sad.

But the high note of all this is what an awesome bunch of women we associate with here that would rally to help another in need. Bravo ladiesChat Icon

hmmm well this is interesting.. but she COULD be selling the clothes her daughter has grown out of since she wrote 6month - 5T what I don't get is the 5T... if she has larger sizes, then why not use them..

i hate to speculate but that is something to ponder.

regardless, I think I'm going to go with my gut feeling...

I think it's wonderful how quickly this group wanted to help.

Hmm, I'm thinking that since it says fall and winter clothes, she needs clothing that will actually fit her DD for this Summer? I noticed she put pick up tuesday or wednesday, possibly desperate to sell the clothing to make money for essentials or for the bday?

She just sent me a pic of her DD.

but... why not sell clothes that she grew out of? And esp clothes that you're going to need in a few months? What's considered "essential" for a 1 year olds birthday? I got milk. And even that i don't remember. Because i was 1.

PS- i can send you a pic of my 'DD' too if ya want Chat Icon

She probably sold all those already if her child outgrew them. I suppose if you are desperate for money RIGHT NOW you'll sell what you can. Maybe she thrift shops and sells for a profit? Who knows, I emailed her asking for an explanation, so I'll let ya'll know what she says Chat Icon

Oh, and I said essentials OR the bday (not for)

Re: PLEASE READ: If this is for real I want to help!

The truth is, nothing is *essential* for a 1 yr. old bday "party." A 12 month old child does not know or care about a party - any party is for the benfit of the parents only.

If this woman was so destitute and without the means to provide for her children, there are city resources that could help her. But she has a CELLPHONE that has TEXTING capability. Chat Icon

This CL post is a ridiculous ploy to get gullible (however kind-hearted they may fancy themselves to be) people to respond.

City resources will provide a cake for your child? Every child deserves a birthday cake, especially for a one year old. Who cares if the kids don't remember it, it's a huge milestone in their life. ALL cell phones have texting capabilities so that really means nothing. Do we know that her cell phone bill has been paid recently? We don't. I think she said she just recently lost her job right?

I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt, and if she truly is a scammer, I'm sure we'll see our things pop back up on CL. But I really don't think that's the case based on some posts about name differences and a bag of clothes being listed.

You don't sell a computer that provides you access to find a job or emailing resumes do you? Or that your kids use for homework? I mean really, would that be logical? It wouldn't be.

Yes, it is. It was the story of my childhood. If you need to find a job, email or have your kid do HW- you sell your computer and go to the library. Nothing illogical about doing that and getting a couple of hundred dollars when you need it most. And you dont text- i dont care if you're phone allow for it- its still an additional charge that adds up. I dont even text b/c i dont want to pay extra $$$.

OK, i know that i'm really skeptical and just don't have a bleeding heart, but C'MON... you can bake a cake for $3. That's the same cost as 20 text messages! Chat Icon

Maybe she'll have a job by then?

Listen..I've been down on my luck. I had my DD a month before she was due, had NO money, her dad wasn't paying any child support and if I had to, I would've sold her clothes that she didn't fit into yet that I had stocked up on so I could buy other things I needed and worried about the next season when the next season happened. Fortunately it didn't come to that, but I can completely get someone doing that. I would never have sold my computer that was a dinosaur, that provided my child with resources to do his homework on without me having to trek my baby to the library, that I was able to sell things on Ebay to earn extra money, etc. etc. etc. because down the road it would have cost a lot more to replace.

I'm sorry that we have such differing opinions on this, but I'm not ruling her as a scammer yet

Re: PLEASE READ: If this is for real I want to help!

I'm only writing this because part of what I teach in my district is Internet safety...

The Internet is a scary place - you can remain somewhat anonymous and scam a lot of good hearted people (c'mon - we've all seen predators and seen kids fall for these scams every day and lose their lives because of it).

I take everything - especially a site like Craigslist - with a grain of salt.

I believe many people have the best intentions here - they want to help those in need, and I commend you for that. But those people who think this whole thing is a scam shouldn't be put down because they doubt what some random person is saying - if you went around trusting everyone, where might you wind up - it's a scary thought. And now there's some proof to backup that this person might be a scammer...too fishy for my taste...especially on the Internet.

At this point, is it possible to agree to disagree? Just wanted to throw that out there...
