Posted by Summerrluvv You don't sell a computer that provides you access to find a job or emailing resumes do you? Or that your kids use for homework? I mean really, would that be logical? It wouldn't be.
Yes, it is. It was the story of my childhood. If you need to find a job, email or have your kid do HW- you go to the library. Nothing illogical about doing that and getting a couple of hundred dollars when you need it most. And you dont text- i dont care if you're phone allow for it- its still an additional charge that adds up. I dont even text b/c i dont want to pay extra $$$.
Exactly my point. There are so many things about this story that do not add up.
If you are truly in a desperate situation, then your kids are wearing hand-me-downs from opposite gender siblings and long pants have been cut-off to shorts for the summer. There is no vanity in a truly desperate situation.
And I don't buy your argument that she "needs" the computer for her job search. I think, in the excessive consumption society we live in, we forget too easily that these are things that can still be done without the aide of a computer.

Re: PLEASE READ: If this is for real I want to help!
Posted by Summerrluvv Listen..I've been down on my luck. I had my DD a month before she was due, had NO money, her dad wasn't paying any child support and if I had to, I would've sold her clothes that she didn't fit into yet that I had stocked up on so I could buy other things I needed and worried about the next season when the next season happened. Fortunately it didn't come to that, but I can completely get someone doing that. I would never have sold my computer that was a dinosaur, that provided my child with resources to do his homework on without me having to trek my baby to the library, that I was able to sell things on Ebay to earn extra money, etc. etc. etc. because down the road it would have cost a lot more to replace.
I'm sorry that we have such differing opinions on this, but I'm not ruling her as a scammer yet
Lots of people have been there. And lots of people have huge hearts, and those are usually the ones htat are preyed on. Look- if you want to send her everything you own, so be it- you have to do what's right for you. But people should just be informed of all aspects of the story, and not told to Go Away if they sense something shady. That's all.

Re: PLEASE READ: If this is for real I want to help!
Here is the response I received to my email telling her that there is some question about the names and the listing of clothes. So take it for what it's worth and if you don't want to contribute, don't, if you do, then do
I'm truly very sorry to hear that people that were once willing to be helpful are now thinking that I'm a scammer. My friend made and placed an ad for me. selling clothes using my number as a way to help me out with getting some extra money. Connie (constance) is my middle name. Yes I've placed ads for many things on Craig's List even looking for playdates for my older daughter. I feel pretty bad that now that i've sent everyone who responded a picture of my daughter that they think that I'm a scammer. It was not my intention to have anyone upset. i was just trying to do something nice for my daughter. i certainly would not have given out my home address either. yes there are a lot of scammers out there but I'm not one of them. If anyone wants to back out of helping because they feel uncomfortable then I totaly understand and i do appreciate then taking the time to read my ad and offer to help. I just feel even more embarrassed about putting so much of my personal information out there.

Maybe it's just me...but if her friend was selling clothes to help her out to make some money to buy clothes.....why not just give her said clothes
I'm sorry, I want to believe her as much as the next, but there's too many inconsistencies.

I'm very impressed by your detective skills, Neenie. Thing sounded shady to me from the start. I think it's great that there are so many kind-hearted people on here, but I think people should stick to legit charities.

Re: PLEASE READ: If this is for real I want to help!
If she is a scammer, then consider me scammed because I had some things sent to her! And she sent me an email with a picture of a beautiful little girl.
And you know what, I will sleep well at night knowing that I tried to help someone, and a little 1 year old girl, out. (whether it's true or not)

I feel the same way. Maybe it is a scam but maybe it's not and if that is the case, I am helping to create a happy memory for a family that may not have too many of those lately.

Ok, first off, if you google MY phone number it isn't my name and we've had it for over 14 months, even Cablevision who GAVE us the number once asked me if I was Tina Watson
Secondly, not everything is such a black and white situation, yeah, if Ineeded and had 5T clothes for DS, Id sell them too!!
Thirdly, I don't know why people keep coming on this thread and trying to ruin it for the people who want to help? ALL of us have said that we really don't care if it is a scam at this point!! So, what?!?! We will all be out some toys and a couple of $$, but whatever.
I am mailing out some toys we haven't even opened of DS' today and a card. I want to help this family too.

**CRASHING**
I do not have children, and I am not down on my luck, BUT what makes me feel weird about this is that she has 3 children and she's SQUEEZING her youngest child into 9mon even though she's into 12months. Now I understand hardship...I've been there, but why ask for a 1st brithday party for a child when they NEED other things. I understand a first birthday is important, but the fact that her daughters birthday is more important then her 3 kids is kinda wrong. Sorry JMHO.....I do agree that I would rather be scammed out of money then not give to somebody, but then again I don't want to be a fool either.

Re: PLEASE READ: If this is for real I want to help!
Just some things to take note of
A scammer wouldn't give their street address and phone numbers. Most of them will say they will pick up the goods or meet somewhere. It's highly unlikely that she would lie and say her DD's birthday is 3 days away, if she was a scammer she would say it was next week or next month to solicit MORE donations. And again, a scammer wouldn't ask for a cake.
I'm a pretty smart girl, I watch a lot of investigative TV and usually know a scam when I see one. This just doesn't scream scam to me. And like others have said, if it is, I'm not out anything other than 10 minutes of my time to hit the PO today and the $10 or so it cost to ship it.

Who said her DD was more important than her other kids? Really, I think some of you are reaching now and should just let it go. You only turn one once Babies grow a lot faster than a 2 year old and a 14 year old. I haven't HAD to buy my son new clothes in a year (although I have).
Again, if you don't want to contribute, don't, but the round and round is getting tiring.
I won't be online much today, so if anyone else needs to the address, several other girls in the thread have it

I was totally going to stay out of this one but i've seen this a bunch of times too. I think it was actually on here once before also. I have a "feeling" it's a scam.

I think it's a scam. A first birthday party doesn't have to be a big event. All you need is a small cake (that you can make) or a cupcake. There are plenty of places to go for clothes. She can try the salvation army or the church.

Re: PLEASE READ: If this is for real I want to help!
What's the worst thing that happens if you send something?
You send some baby clothes or a small toy or a grocery card. You acted from good faith. You tried to help someone in need. YOU have done something good. YOU have tried to make a difference. That is never wrong and you are never stupid for being kind.
And what if she is a scam artist? Maybe the outpouring of love or generosity turns the 'scammer' into someone more worthy. Maybe guilt comes in and they give the clothes to someone truly in need.
I am not out to be suckered at every turn. But I will admit that I am probably taken advantage of more than I could be because I want to trust and I want to help.
If she is legitimate - then fantastic. But honestly - if she is so hard up that she has to scam people to give her baby clothes and toys - then she needs them more than I do anyway.

Re: PLEASE READ: If this is for real I want to help!
You know what, I've thrown away more than I'm going to send her so the way I see it, even if I'm being scammed, so what -- there's a possibility that I will make the lives of this family just a bit better, even if it is so they can sell the stuff I send them.
ETA: I think it's kind of sad that we live in a time when anytime somebody asks for help, the first question people ask is whether it is a scam or not. Not saying that people shouldn't be careful, but rather that people HAVE to be so careful nowadays. It's going to be hard to teach our children to be kind and giving, yet still be careful.

That was very well said, I agree completely. If this woman is going this far to get free things (baby clothes nonetheless) than she needs help.
But the reason we all care so much is because all the women on here are kind, caring and generous.. lets not loose sight of that.

And just a side note about the clothes she is trying to sell, it says 6mos to 5T but that doesn't necessarily mean all inclusive. And you certainly can't put 5T clothes (or even 2T) on a 1 year old.
