Bumping because I have to ask:
What good is a 4 or 6 hour slow cooker recipe???
The whole point for me is to be able to put it on right before I leave for work at 8 and come home to a meal being done.
If it's 4-6 hours I would have to come home at lunch to do it.
Do you just do those ones on weekends?
That is pretty much why I don't use it too often during the week. It cooks too long even when on "keep warm." One I do do, is pull pork or ribs...I sear the meat and then freeze it. I think use frozen meat in those recipes.

Italian Tomato Sauce
About 1-2 lbs. sweet Italian sausage with fennel 4 lg. cans crushed tomatoes Crushed garlic - a few cloves Parsley, salt and pepper to taste Frozen fresh basil cubes (in freezer section) Olive oil
Brown the sausage and cook mostly through on the stove. Remove sausage and saute onion until translucent and soft. About 10 min. Add garlic and saute for another minute. Transfer ALL the oil, fat, sausage bits, onions and garlic from the pan to the Crock Pot. Add all the tomatoes and seasonings. Add in the sausage and let the sauce cook for a good 8-10hrs. on low. The longer you let it cook the better and richer it tastes. Add any additional seasoning as necessary.
you mentioned onion in the directions but not in the ingredients. how much onion does it call for?

My crockpot has a setting for "keep warm" so when it is done cooking it automatically turns to keep warm and stays like that til I get home to eat.
same...and if its a long day i'll cook it on slow
thank God for the crockpot

Re: Please share your favorite Crock Pot recipe
I LOOOOOOOVE my crockpot! Especially with 2 little ones and working f/t. Nothing better than coming home and dinner is DONE!
I have 2 that I make pretty frequently and they are both AMAZING!
Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff
4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves, cubed 1/8 cup butter 1 (.7 oz.) package dry Italian salad dressing mix 1 8oz. package cream cheese 1 10.75 oz. can condensed cream of chicken soup
1. Put chicken, butter and dressing mix in slow cooker; mix together and cook on low for 5-6 hours.
2. Add cream cheese and soup, mix together and cook on high for another 1/2 hour or until heated through.
We love this one over brown rice!
DH's absolute FAVORITE thing that I make:
Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches
4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves 1 12 oz. bottle Frank's Red Hot sauce 1 1/2 sticks butter 1 package dry ranch salad dressing mix 6 hoagie rolls, split lengthwise
1. Place the chicken breasts into a slow cooker, and pour in 3/4 of the hot sauce, all of the butter, and the package of ranch. Cover. Cook on low for 6-7 hours.
2. Once the chicken has cooked, use a pair of tongs to shred the meat (I do this with about an hour remaining). Add the remaining hot sauce. Keep warm until ready to serve.
I make these with ranch dressing, shredded lettuce, red onion and cheese. It's a hit every time!

We've had this before. It is good but we've found that the stuffing like disappears so we always make some extra on the side.

There's an even better recipe that is on the back of the stuffing box. It's stuffining, chicken, sour cream, cream of chicken soup and frozen mixed veggies. You basically make the stuffing like normal and combine everything else is a baking dish. The cover it all with the stuffing and bake for about an hour. SOOOOO GOOOD!!!!!!!

I don't know if I put this one on here yet, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE it and made it tonight, so I wanted to post it:
Shredded Barbeque Chicken
2lbs of boneless, skinless chicken breasts 1 bottle of your favorite barbeque sauce 1/2 cup of italian dressing 1/4 brown sugar 2tbsps. worstchesire (sp?) sauce
Mix all the ingredients in the bottom of the crock pot, then add the chicken. Cook on low for 6-8 hours, after 6 hours, take whole pieces of chicken out, shred with two forks and put back in crock pot for the remaining time. Serve on rolls.
It is heavenly!
I'm giving this one a try tomorrow! It sounds delicious.

Re: Please share your favorite Crock Pot recipe
I made crockpot spiced applesauce last night and it came out so delicious.
8 apples, peeled and sliced 1/2 cup water 3/4 cup brown sugar 2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
Add apples and water to crackpot and cook for 6 hours on low. After 6 hours the apples should be soft enough to mash with a fork. Mash them and then add the other ingredients. Cook for 30 minutes more.

Re: Please share your favorite Crock Pot recipe
Corned beef and Cabbage! DH's favorite!!!
1 corned beef (3-4 lbs) Small cabbage head (green) A few carrots peeled and cut up. (or baby to save time ) New potatoes (red or white) 1 small onion A few garlic cloves (optional) 1 beer-any kind Beef broth (optional) Salt and pepper
Place corned beef in crock pot fat side up, salt and pepper both sides.
Cut up cabbage into wedges and leave it attached to the core part after trimmed so it doesn't fall apart. Add around beef
Throw in some potatoes and carrots
Add the onion quartered and 2 whole garlic cloves (just for flavor)
Cover with a beer and either beef broth or water so everything is covered.
Cook 8-10 hours on low or 6 hours high.
If the corned beef has a favor package just add it! Sometimes I add whole pepper corns, some dry mustard, you can't mess this up!!!
I serve it with soda bread or canned biscuits. And a Guinness for DH! Any leftovers make great Ruben sammies!

Re: Please share your favorite Crock Pot recipe
I just made this and DH and picky DD loved it-
Beef & Noodles
1lb Stew Meat (more if you like, I usually use 1 1/2 lbs)
1 lg can Cream of Chicken (yes Chicken)
1 envelope Lipton Onion Soup Mix
Add about 1 can of water, more or less depending on how thick or thin you want.
1 bag of egg noodles
Mix everything together, except the noodles, and cook on High 4 hrs or low 8 hrs. Add the noodles the last 30 min of cooking.
I put green beans in it at the end, but you can obviously do whatever you want.
